Cross’ Prospect to Target: Landon Knack
I’m honestly not sure people realize how good Landon Knack is. He’s no Bobby Miller, but Knack combines a high floor with s solid ceiling as well which has me projecting him as a #3 starter at the Major League level. Chris and I saw Knack and Miller pitch back to back out in the AFL and Knack was nearly as impressive as Miller was.
Overall in 2021, Knack posted a 3.18 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 3.3 BB%, 33.3 K%, and 17.8% SwStr in 62.1 innings between Hi-A and Double-A. That SwStr rate was better than Miller, Pepiot, White, Beeter, etc. On top of that, his 30.1 K-BB% ranked 12th best in the minors in 2021 for pitchers with 60+ IP. He was tied with Daniel Espino and just behind names like Detmers, Baz, Ryan, Cody Morris, and Grayson Rodriguez.
Knack attacks hitters with a good three-pitch mix with his mid-90s fastball and slider both grading as plus and the changeup being above-average as well. He’s also shown plus command and control of all three offerings, giving him a considerably high floor. He’s currently coming back from a soft tissue injury but should make his 2022 debut fairly soon and his price tag should only rise moving forward.
Clegg’s Prospect to Target: Maddux Bruns
Maddux Bruns could be the next Dodgers pitcher soaring up prospect rankings. Bruns was the Dodgers” first-round pick in the 2021 and was already said to have some of the best stuff in the draft class. The 19-year-old even worked at Driveline this offseason to further advance his arsenal and make strides as a pitcher. Bruns has started three games in 2022, but all shorter stints. Regardless, in 5.2 innings pitched, Bruns has a 3.18 ERA and 12 strikeouts to two walks.
Beyond the stats, Bruns fastball sits mid-90s and can get up to 97 mph. He commands it well which was a question coming out of the draft. Bruns also features two distinct breaking balls in his curve and slider. The curve sits mid-to-upper 70s, while his slider sits in the mid-80s. He makes hitters look silly with both of the pitches. Bruns also mixes a changeup, but has not been often used.
Bruns could project as a future mid-rotation type arm that is still flying under the radar. He has looked sharp to begin 2022, so it will be fun to follow his progression. Now is the time to invest in dynasty before his price tag soars.
