Minnesota Twins Top Prospects for Dynasty Leagues

Welcome to our 2022 team top prospect rankings series. Leading up to Minor League Opening Day, Eric Cross and Chris Clegg will go through all 30 Major League organizations, continuing today with their Minnesota Twins Top Prospects for dynasty leagues. In each installment of this series, you’ll find the top-20 rankings from both Eric Cross (AVG) and Chris Clegg (OBP) along with one prospect each that they’re targeting heavily in dynasty leagues right now. Hopefully, these rankings will help you in your dynasty leagues, and maybe give you some new trade targets to consider.

The Minnesota Twins have seen a changing of the guard with the top prospects over the last year or so. Some of their top names a year or two ago struggled in 2021 while others blossomed and flew up rankings like Jose Miranda and Joe Ryan. That’s the name of the game with prospects though. The prospect world is constantly evolving and we need to adjust and stay on top of it the best we can.

Cross’ Prospect to Target: Royce Lewis

Remember when Royce Lewis was considered a top-10 prospect. That was only a few years ago. Yes, 2019 does feel like a lifetime ago, but since then, Lewis had a poor 2019 showing, followed by the canceled 2020 MiLB season and then another missed season due to injury. But now Lewis appears to be a full-go for 2022 and represents a solid buy-low in dynasty leagues.

After a 14-homer, 28-steal season in 2018 with a .292/.352/.451 slash line, Lewis struggled to the tune of a .236/.290/.371 slash line in 2019 between Hi-A and Double-A. However, he still added 12 homers and 22 steals and was named the MVP of the Arizona Fall League later that fall. The regular season stat line was a bit misleading too as Lewis still ran contact rates slightly above 75% at both levels, but he ran lower BABIPs. Those were down from the 83% and 81% rates in 2018, but still not indicative of a sub-.240 average.

Lewis might not be a top-10 caliber prospect anymore, but he’s certainly better than what we saw in 2019. I’m still a believer that Lewis can be an above-average hitter with close to average raw power and above-average speed as well.

Clegg’s Prospect to Target: Kala’i Rosario

The player I am targeting for dynasty leagues from the Minnesota Twins system is Kala’i Rosario. He was the Twins fifth-round draft selection in the shortened 2020 MLB Draft. Rosario debuted in rookie ball last season and while the numbers were fine, they were nothing to write home about. He hit five home runs in 51 games while posting a .277/.341/.452 slash line.

Rosario is a great target for several reasons. First, he is a highly impressive athlete. He is listed at 6’1, 200 pounds but has a strong frame that generates a ton of raw power. He posts elite exit velocities. Rosario will need to cut down on the swing and miss in order to really tap into his potential. He posted a 31.7 percent strikeout rate with just a 64.9 percent contact rate in rookie ball last season. Rosario does not chase pitches often and if all clicks right, we could see him develop into a solid fantasy asset. Many speak highly of his work ethic, so it is too early to count out a hard worker like Rosario.
