Here is the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Sunday, September 3, 2023. In today’s edition, Christian Walker seems to have avoided a scare and could be back in the Diamondbacks’ lineup soon enough. Also, Anthony Santander left yesterday’s game with an injury and the team will know more about where they stand with him today. Finally, is Riley Greene a player to drop in redraft leagues? After his trip to the Injured List, he just might be. All that and more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report
Christian Walker – 1B Arizona Diamondbacks
D-backs 1B Christian Walker is day-to-day with a right elbow contusion, Torey Lovullo said.pic.twitter.com/JhdOhn7MGR
— Arizona Sports (@AZSports) September 3, 2023
All things considered, Walker is pretty fortunate. He himself noted too that he should be fine, but the ball just hit him in an unfortunate spot. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him sit out today’s game.
Anthony Santander – OF Baltimore Orioles
Anthony Santander will get precautionary X-Rays, but Brandon Hyde thinks he’ll be ok https://t.co/0OTKoXXmTh
— Andy Kostka (@afkostka) September 3, 2023
The hope is that Santander will be able to play in a few days, if that, but nothing is set in stone. We should know more once the results from the precautionary X-Rays come back.
Luis Robert Jr. – OF Chicago White Sox
Luis Robert Jr. scratched due to right quad cramping. Re-evaluated tomorrow. Gavin Sheets now in RF, with Colas moving to CF
— Scott Merkin (@scottmerkin) September 2, 2023
For now, Robert can be considered DTD, but his injury history from past seasons suggests he could miss some time. It’s best to have a backup plan heading into the playoffs.
Cincinnati Reds – Team Update
The #Reds today announced the following transactions: pic.twitter.com/J2gHu76n8s
— Cincinnati Reds (@Reds) September 2, 2023
The Reds are reeling with injuries, and this doesn’t help things. Both Williamson and Ashcraft join Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo, Ben Lively, and more pitchers on the team’s Injured Reserve. They also have offensive problems as well, making this a difficult time.
Riley Greene – OF Detroit Tigers
Tigers place Riley Greene on 10-day IL with right elbow inflammation. Elbow swelled up and became sore overnight after diving catch last night. He’ll get another MRI in 7-10 days.
— Jason Beck (@beckjason) September 2, 2023
This complicates things for fantasy owners. There’s no telling what the MRI will reveal, and it could happen after next week’s lineups are to be finalized. It might be the point of considering him a drop in redraft leagues, but only if absolutely necessary.
Jose Altuve – 2B Houston Astros
Dusty Baker on Jose Altuve (shin contusion): “He’s sore.”
Doesn’t sound like he’ll do much, if any, physical activity today. Day-to-day moving forward. Would imagine the priority is having him ready for the three games in Arlington, starting Monday pic.twitter.com/PDM29YCaZe
— Ben DuBose (@BenDuBose) September 2, 2023
The audio isn’t the greatest, but it’s the best clip out there. From the sound of it, Altuve will miss today’s game with the hopes of being ready for an important series against Texas tomorrow.
Jo Adell – OF Los Angeles Angels
Jo Adell has started hitting in the cage, so there is some hope for him coming back this year.
Also, Kenny Rosenberg is starting on Monday. The Angels aren’t ruling out using their other starters on 4 days rest but they’re going to try to avoid it, Nevin says.
— Jeff Fletcher (@JeffFletcherOCR) September 2, 2023
If there was ever a time for Adell to make a name for himself on this team, the time would be now. If Adell can get himself healthy, he has a chance to earn a spot on this team for next season.
Zach Neto – SS Los Angeles Angels
It’s looking like Neto will be starting a rehab assignment this upcoming week and maybe a part of the team for the home stretch.
J.D. Martinez – UT Los Angeles Dodgers
The team has been taking their time with Martinez, and justifiably so. He is an important part of their postseason future, and having him at 100% health for the playoffs means more than the final month of the regular season. It looks like he will be back with the team within a week if all goes well.
Aaron Ashby – SP/RP Milwaukee Brewers

— Jake Reetz (@jajareetz) September 2, 2023
Ashby struck out two batters and walked another two batters for a scoreless appearance. This should be the first of many appearances for him.
Michael Taylor – OF Minnesota Twins, Willi Castro – INF/OF Minnesota Twins
Twins won’t decide until morning, but it appears Michael A. Taylor, noticeably slowed by his sore hamstring during tonight’s game, is likely to go on the injured list when Willi Castro is activated tomorrow.
— Phil Miller (@MillerStrib) September 3, 2023
It looks like a case of good timing (transaction-wise) but unfortunate that Taylor may miss some time in a season where he’s hit 20 home runs.
Mark Vientos – 3B New York Mets
Mark Vientos departed tonight's game due to a sore right foot, which he experienced running the bases. He had been bothered by foot soreness during his recent IL stint for left wrist tendinitis.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) September 3, 2023
Recurring injuries are troublesome for any player, and this seems like one of them. Expect more updates later today.
Gleyber Torres – 2B New York Yankees
Aaron Boone said Gleyber Torres is doing better and that he'd see about his availability as the day unfolds. Torres didn't have tests done. #Yankees
— Gary Phillips (@GaryHPhillips) September 2, 2023
Torres didn’t practice earlier in the day and didn’t play in last night’s game. It remains to be seen if he will return today or wait until next week.
Mason Miller – SP Oakland Athletics
Mason Miller was untouchable in his fifth rehab start with four K's across three perfect innings 😤
The @Athletics' No. 3 prospect averaged 98.2 mph on his fastball and touched triple digits twice for the @AviatorsLV: pic.twitter.com/TEjWPoz0Aq
— MLB Pipeline (@MLBPipeline) September 3, 2023
Miller looks all but ready to return to Oakland, but there has yet to be an official word confirming that move. Expect some sort of announcement within a couple of days, which would be close to when Miller would throw for the Athletics.
Ty France – 1B Seattle Mariners
Servias said X-rays on Ty France’s elbow are negative. He’s sore. They’ll evaluate it more tomorrow.
— Jen Mueller (@JenTalksSports) September 3, 2023
That is good news on the X-Rays, though it doesn’t mean that France won’t miss some time. As it says here, the team will re-evaluate things today.
Mathew Liberatore – SP St. Louis Cardinals
#STLCards LHP Matthew Liberatore (low back tightness) is scheduled to make one more rehab start in Memphis, manager Oli Marmol said. He struggled in his last Triple-A outing and he’ll pitch there again before returning to the Cards.
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) September 1, 2023
It’s quite possible that Liberatore will be with the Cardinals for the final three weeks of the season, which means approximately four more starts.
Danny Jansen – C Toronto Blue Jays
John Schneider says Danny Jansen will stay with Jays on current road trip with plans to meet with a specialist next week
Unclear whether Jansen will be able to return in reg season but Schneider told him: maybe you miss the good parts of the season & return for the great parts
— Ben Nicholson-Smith (@bnicholsonsmith) September 2, 2023
There’s a legitimate chance that Jansen’s season is done and Alejandro Kirk catches the majority of games for the Blue Jays.
