MLB Injury Report: Conflicting Reports on Kyle Tucker

Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Saturday, August 24, 2024. In today’s edition, Kyle Tucker receives some news, but reports seem to differ in how things may go moving forward. Also, Yordan Alvarez missed last night’s game and Xavier Edwards was pulled from his gamelast night. All of that and so much more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report

Kyle Tucker – OF Houston Astros (shin)

This was in response to the comments made by GM Dana Brown, stating that the team was hopeful of having Tucker back at the beginning of September. While the beginning of September is quite vague (it could be in the first week, as an example of still qualifying), Rome brings up some great points here. First, he needs to run at full speed, something that has yet to be achieved. Secondly, once that happens, he will need to be able to run the bases, which means he will need to rotate and swivel his legs and body to do so. This is still a lot to accomplish, and then he will likely need a rehab assignment, and the mentioned one of 2-3 games seems like a best-case scenario. Essentially, a lot has to go right here and nothing can go wrong for him to return when mentioned.

Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros (neck)

Alvarez mentioned that he tried to play through this during pregame warmups, but he felt off when swinging. He will give it a go today, but the Astros have been known to deal with neck issues in other players before, and they’re not usually dealt with in the quickest of fashions.

Ketel Marte – 2B Arizona Diamondbacks (ankle)

Marte will begin to ramp up the activity in his ankle by using it instead of resting it. This is the beginning stage of his comeback, and one has to wonder if the team will take things slowly concerning how they handle things. As of tomorrow, it will be one week since the reaggravation. He may need a rehab assignment before returning as well. It may be a while before we see him back.

Christian Walker – 1B Arizona Diamondbacks (oblique)

Walker has advanced from soft-toss swings to a higher-velocity machine, and the hope is that he can advance to live batting practice. There have been some reports of him not needing a rehab assignment, so he may be able to get himself back into game shape through simulated games with the team. Either way, things are looking better for Walker.

Tyler O’Neill – OF Boston Red Sox (finger inflammation)

This season alone, O’Neill has missed time due to injuries on his finger, knee, leg, and head because of a concussion. While he still has 22 home runs and a healthy batting average, he just can’t seem to stay healthy enough to take that next step forward.

Trevor Story – SS Boston Red Sox (shoulder)

Fantastic news here, as Story may be able to contribute down the stretch here. While his impact is likely minimal for fantasy purposes, having him back in the postseason will be massive. Though the price tag is increasing, he remains a nice buy-low option in dynasty formats.

Yu Darvish – SP San Diego Padres (personal)

Darvish being reinstated is great news, and the hope is that his family situation has been resolved in the best way possible. Now, it’s all about conditioning and rebuilding his arm, but he did throw 27 pitches with the team yesterday.

Minnesota Twins – Team Update

A very vague but important update here on the Twins. First, Alex Kirilloff (back) and Brooks Lee (shoulder) will both begin their rehab assignment. Even though Lee’s begins a day later than Kirilloff’s, one would have to assume that Lee would return sooner, given the amount of time away from the team already. As for Byron Buxton (hip), he was eligible to return yesterday, and there were murmurs of that happening. Instead, he needs additional time to recover. Finally, nothing new here on Carlos Correa (foot) as he continues to improve, but time is running out for him to help fantasy owners in the big way they need him.

Detroit Tigers – Team Update

Big update here, but for redraft purposes, Casey Mize (hamstring) will be looking to stretch out even further as he tries to return this season. Meanwhile, Reese Olson (shoulder) throwing a bullpen is a big step forward. How he responds remains to be seen, but he may have a chance to return after all.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto – SP Los Angeles Dodgers (tricep)

Yamamoto has been making steady progress as of late. The hope is that the positive news will continue as he works his way back. A somewhat lengthy rehab assignment is likely on tap next, should he be eligible to begin one.

Xavier Edwards – 2B Miami Marlins (back)

There wasn’t much news on this injury after the game, so fantasy owners are encouraged to wait until closer to game time for updates. For now, consider him DTD.
