MLB Injury Report for Wednesday, June 26, 2024.

Fernando Tatis Jr. – OF San Diego Padres (quad)

This piece of news had seemingly been passed on quietly throughout the media, but it was a potentially major bombshell. Tatis spoke to the media and revealed that he had a stress reaction in his quad. While I’m not a doctor, it is a precursor to a fracture and is something that teams and players should be careful with when diagnosing because of what is happening on the inside of the body. Sometimes these sorts of things go unnoticed, but they’re a big deal that is prevalent with soreness that doesn’t get better. The team must now wait for it to get better, and that can take time. Tatis himself said that he felt some cramping all over his body back in March and that it has escalated into what it is now. There are rumors that are all over the place from the All-Star Break all the way to a trip to the 60-day Injured List. While all of that is speculation right now, all we know is that this is shaping up to be a serious issue that requires significant time away. The team will likely wait for him to be pain/symptom-free before allowing him to either resume or continue along the path of baseball activities. Once that happens, which could be weeks from now, a rehab assignment may be needed. Fantasy owners should be prepared to be without him for quite a while.

Kyle Tucker – OF Houston Astros (shin)

Tucker has been out of commission for quite some time. He’s been shut down from doing anything baseball-related because of this deep bone bruise. He has taken swings from a tee and is hopeful to start running any day now. Once that happens, he can begin to quickly ramp up all intensity in his baseball activities and hopefully rejoin the club. It remains to be seen if a rehab assignment is needed.

Justin Verlander – SP Houston Astros (neck)

It remains to be seen if this will linger on because of a deeper-seeded issue, or if it’s because of old age where the body just doesn’t heal as quickly. For now, Verlander is considered on the mend with a neck issue.

Kodai Senga – SP New York Mets (shoulder)

This is great news for the Mets and Senga, who will be looking to make his 2024 debut at some point in July. This is the farthest that he has progressed in any phase of his recovery, as other times he has suffered multiple setbacks. It will be interesting to see how he feels and performs here. Fantasy owners should expect a full and lengthy timeline for this rehab assignment.

Starling Marte – OF New York Mets (knee)

This injury will take a long time to heal, as indicated by Mendoza’s plan. Marte will be shut down for two weeks before ramping himself back up for a return. In the meantime, the Mets have pondered about suing Jeff McNeil in the outfield and will likely give veteran Ben Gamel a chance.

Kerry Carpenter – OF Detroit Tigers (back)

Carpenter has taken swings from a tee while also throwing, catching, and running all over the field. He will undoubtedly need a rehab assignment but is still likely weeks away from that.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand – 1B Cincinnati Reds (wrist)

There were rumors that Encarnacion-Strand would be seeking this option, and now they’ve come to fruition. With this plan in place, concerns of wrist injuries sapping power aren’t as prevalent since the season will begin seven months post-surgery. He is someone to target for cheap in dynasty leagues.

Nick Lodolo – SP Cincinnati Reds (blister)

The good news is that it is just a blister and nothing internal. This could be a blessing in disguise to give Lodolo some time to rest and limit his overall workload after missing 2023 with bigger injuries.

Bryan Woo – SP Seattle Mariners (hamstring)

Due to the fact that this is a low-level injury, the hope is that Woo can return right after the fifteen days he will be on the Injured List. As for a spot in the rotation, the Mariners have Thursday and Monday off, so they may be able to manipulate that part of their schedule for now.

Arizona Diamondbacks – Team Update

Zac Gallen (hamstring), who last pitched on May 30, is aiming to return almost one month later. He has been trending in the right direction and looks to be one bullpen session away from being activated. As for Gabriel Moreno (thumb), this session could go a long way in determining how close he is to returning. He is on the Injured List with a sprained thumb, though the early reports have said that he isn’t likely to miss much more than the ten-day minimum. Finally, Alek Thomas (hamstring) finished 1-for-3 with a double in last night’s game. He could be back early next week if all goes well.

Teoscar Hernandez – OF Los Angeles Dodgers (personal)

Hernandez is wished the absolute best for a quick and safe return.

Josh Jung – 3B Texas Rangers (wrist)

Jung had his meeting with team officials to check him over and this is what they found. While it’s not expected to be a major setback, it is somewhat worrisome that the wrist is experiencing this sort of inflammation. While rest is what is recommended, it does explain his cold bat in his minor league rehab assignment. Jung has gone 4-for-17 with no home runs and five strikeouts in his four games played.

Liam Hendriks – RP Boston Red Sox (Tommy John Surgery)

This is an important first major step in his road to recovery. Hendriks has yet to be on the mound since his surgery, and this will be a big indication of how quickly the team can and should accelerate things.
