MLB Injury Report
Ketel Marte – 2B Arizona Diamondbacks
Torey Lovullo said he expects Ketel Marte to be back in the lineup tomorrow but it depends how his knee reacts overnight. He said it started to get more sore throughout the game which is why Marte had to be removed.
— Theo Mackie (@theo_mackie) September 9, 2023
Marte had to be removed late in last night’s game, but there’s a chance that he will return to the lineup today. As Lovullo said, we won’t know until we see how his body reacts overnight.
Jordan Westburg – INF Baltimore Orioles
Jordan Westburg was removed in the top of the seventh but they are hoping he’ll be available tomorrow. “Everyone has little things,” Hyde said
— Danielle Allentuck (@d_allentuck) September 10, 2023
Hyde said that he is hopeful for Westburg’s availability today, but he’s been sporadically used lately so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him sit.
Yoan Moncada – 3B Chicago White Sox
Yoan Moncada’s right knee was getting iced postgame .. reaggravated on a swing, Grifol said.
— Daryl Van Schouwen (@CST_soxvan) September 10, 2023
Consider Moncada DTD while he rests his back. As it stands, it doesn’t seem to be a serious injury.
Noelvi Marte – SS Cincinnati Reds
The game is in a delay because Noelvi Marte was injured minutes ago just before the game during warmups. pic.twitter.com/uJ23oxGtZN
— Bally Sports Cincinnati (@BallySportsCIN) September 9, 2023
Since this happened, it has been determined that Marte has avoided a concussion, and was treated for a minor cut. All that being said, it’s a painful way to miss game or two.
Austin Meadows – OF Detroit Tigers
Austin Meadows will not return this season, manager A.J. Hinch announced. He has been on IL since April with anxiety and away from team for last few months. He still had a locker in Tigers clubhouse until today, when Tigers needed a spot for Sawyer Gipson-Long.
— Jason Beck (@beckjason) September 9, 2023
It remains to be seen how Meadows will return to the team, if at all, next season. He is arbitration-eligible but has played in 42 games over the past two seasons due to anxiety.
Nolan Schanuel – 1B Los Angeles Angels
Nolan Schanuel felt some tightness near the back of his shoulder (but not at his shoulder) and that’s why he was pulled from late in the game. Phil Nevin is not worried about him.
— Sarah Valenzuela (@Sarah_IsabelVee) September 9, 2023
The injury isn’t believed to be serious, but it’s unclear as to when Schanuel will return to the Angels’ lineup. Consider him DTD for now until we’re told otherwise.
Shohei Ohtani – UT Los Angeles Angels
Shohei Ohtani is not playing today. He’s been day-to-day the whole home stand. That day has yet to come.
— Sam Blum (@SamBlum3) September 9, 2023
The team has yet to change anything regarding Ohtani’s status. He is still DTD, but no decision to shut him down has been made either.
Luis Rengifo – INF Los Angeles Angels
Luis Rengifo is going on the IL with a bicep tendon rupture. His season is over.
— Sam Blum (@SamBlum3) September 9, 2023
Rengifo’s season ends on a sour note, but he could come back next season and compete for a spot on the roster.
Anthony Rendon – 3B Los Angeles Angels

— Sarah Valenzuela (@Sarah_IsabelVee) September 8, 2023
Rendon is working his way back to the Angels’ lineup in the hopes of playing 22 games next season.
Mookie Betts – INF/OF Los Angeles Dodgers
Mookie Betts gives an update on his bruised foot and when he plans to return to play. pic.twitter.com/zCfIJJx8jD
— SportsNet LA (@SportsNetLA) September 9, 2023
Betts says that his foot feels much better and that it came when he fouled a pitch off of it. He doesn’t seem overly concerned with the injury itself, but most players never are. As it stands, he should be back in the lineup within the next few days.
Christian Yelich – OF Milwaukee Brewers
Craig Counsell characterized the decision to scratch Christian Yelich from the lineup as precautionary. They have a lot of history at this point and know when to push through back stiffness, and when a couple of days off are necessary.
So, it's day-to-day.
— Adam McCalvy (@AdamMcCalvy) September 10, 2023
There was some worry initially that this could have been the start of something significant. While it still might be, this reassuring statement from manager Craig Counsell should ease some of the panic. It looks like Yelich will be back when he’s ready, and that day may not be too far down the road.
Luis Severino – SP New York Yankees
Luis Severino’s season — and maybe Yankees career — is over.
High-grade left oblique strain, Aaron Boone says.
— Brendan Kuty 🧟♂️ (@BrendanKutyNJ) September 9, 2023
A High-grade oblique strain (Grade 3) has a typical timeline of 3-4 months for recovery. As such, he will still be recovering when free agency begins on November 10 of this year. It’s unclear if that will impact his future earnings as much as his performance this past season. Either way here’s hoping he returns to his past form in 2024, wherever that may be.
Henry Davis – C/OF Pittsburgh Pirates
Henry Davis sent a ball to the moon
— Kody Duncan (@KodyDuncanPGH) September 9, 2023
It was Davis’ only hit of the night, but it was a big one. It remains to be seen if that ball has landed.
San Francisco Giants – Team Update
Michael Conforto not quite ready to come off IL, but is day-to-day.
Heliot Ramos on taxi in case Austin Slater (dizziness) can't go.
Keaton Winn likely to pitch tomorrow (TBA starting). Ross Stripling expected to be added sooner rather than later.
Lots of balls in the air.
— Danny Emerman (@DannyEmerman) September 9, 2023
The Giants are in the thick of it with respect to the Wild Card hunt. It’s unfortunate that they have so many situations to deal with. It’s a testament to management for being able to deal with them all season long. The biggest news here is that Conforto could be back soon. Be prepared.
Shane Baz – SP Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays pitcher Shane Baz continues to progress from Tommy John surgery, saying he’s long tossing and throwing bullpens. He’s been working with Rick Knapp, the team’s rehab pitching coach: “It’s got to be a gradual build up. I think I’ve done a good job of pacing myself…this is…
— Ryan Bass (@Ry_Bass) September 9, 2023
It’s been a good year for Baz, as he continues to work his way back from last September’s Tommy John Surgery. He is unlikely to return this season and remains a solid fantasy option for 2024.
Isaac Paredes – INF Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays Isaac Paredes was removed from today’s game with a right hand contusion. He’s day-to-day. X-rays were negative. Boy, is that good news.
— Ryan Bass (@Ry_Bass) September 9, 2023
Paredes looks to be ready to return in a few days (hopefully) as he has a bone bruise. This is fantastic news as the Rays need him more than ever right now as they try to win the AL East.
Josh Jung – 3B Texas Rangers
Jung was able to hit a baseball off of a tee earlier in the week and the team has decided to push the gas pedal. It remains to be seen if he actually will return when rumored, but this is a promising development nonetheless.
MacKenzie Gore – SP Washington Nationals
The Nationals announced that they placed MacKenzie Gore on the 15-day Injured List with left finger blisters and recalled Joe La Sorsa from Triple-A Rochester.
— Andrew Golden (@andrewcgolden) September 9, 2023
This will likely end Gore’s season.
