MLB Injury Report: Major Injuries on Monday

Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Tuesday, August 13, 2024. In today’s report, Jazz Chisholm Jr., Bobby Witt, Byron Buxton, Ketel Marte, and Logan O’Hoppe all got injured in their respective games, making it one of the largest roundups of injuries in quite some time. Read all about them and other news in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injust Report

Jazz Chisholm Jr. – INF/OF New York Yankees (elbow)

Chisholm slid into home on what could be described as an ill-advised decision. He landed awkwardly on his elbow and later was seen trying to work out the kinks in it. He’s already had x-rays done, which came back negative, but he will undergo more tests today to ensure that things are okay. Chances are that he misses today’s game at the very least, though he may have avoided something substantial.

Bobby Witt Jr. – SS Kansas City Royals (forearm/wrist/shoulder)

The team will undoubtedly check in on him today, and while there could be some significant swelling and bruising, it would appear that he has dodged a bullet concerning any significant damage done. Still, things can change overnight and he may need some time off. It’s important to note too that he went for imaging after the game and things came back clean. It would appear that we’re dealing with a DTD-type situation here.

Ketel Marte – 2B Arizona Diamondbacks (ankle)

Interesting comments here from Lovullo, as Marte himself said that he was still in pain, but wanted to grind it out. Lo and behold, he aggravated this injury in his first at-bat and may have suffered something more serious. Given that the Diamondbacks themselves said earlier in the year how they had learned their lesson after having brought back injured pitchers too soon, it’s surprising to see them do this when he was not ready to play.

Byron Buxton – OF Minnesota Twins (hip)

Buxton left the game in the fifth inning with hip discomfort, and Baldelli did say that it would be dependent on how he feels today and tomorrow. For now, he should be considered DTD, but given his injury history, there is a chance for an Injured List designation here that needs to be recognized. Of note, he missed time in 2022 because of a hip injury.

Logan O’Hoppe – C Los Angeles Angels (knee)

From the sounds of it, O’Hoppe got to it in the nick of time, as it had been building up throughout the game. He made note of it, and manager Ron Washington decided to pull him. Washington did say that he expects O’Hoppe to be back in the lineup today.

Michael Harris – OF Atlanta Braves (hamstring)

Be prepared.

Reynaldo Lopez – SP Atlanta Braves (forearm)

Assuming he gets through this start without any setbacks, he could be back on the mound for the Braves by this time next week.

Kyle Tucker – OF Houston Astros (shin)

This was a very positive report and the first we’ve seen regarding Tucker in quite some time. The team had seen him perform agile motions through video clips, and now, in person, it would appear that his health has improved dramatically. What lies ahead is unknown, but as stated, the team wants him to improve on what they saw. The first step would likely be seeing how he feels the day after performing such rigorous activities. From there, the team likely has some ideas for him to take the next step. That being said, the biggest takeaway here should be that he was able to do more than he had in quite some time.

Texas Rangers – Team Update

Sometimes, no news is enough news. Both Max Scherzer (shoulder fatigue) and Nathan Eovaldi (oblique) should have updates within the next few days. With Scherzer, the results have yet to be released, and with Eovaldi, once he gets an adequate amount of rest, he should proceed to be on the mound and the team can get a better look.

Bo Bichette – SS Toronto Blue Jays (calf)

If Bichette can resume baseball activities within the next week, there’s a good chance of him returning to the Blue Jays for the final month of the season. That is assuming that he doesn’t suffer any setbacks, which he very well might.

Ben Brown – SP/RP Chicago Cubs (neck)

Brown last pitched on June 8, and he will continue to rest until he is symptom-free. While the team is confident that nothing more will be needed other than time, fantasy owners may not have that, and thus, he can safely be dropped in all redraft formats.
