MLB Injury Report – Mike Trout Injured

Here is the MLB Injury Report for Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Inside today’s report, there is news on a surprising Mike Trout injury, a Cole Ragans ailment, and a ton of notes on many Miami Marlins players. All that and more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report for Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

Cole Ragans – SP Kansas City Royas (leg cramp)

Ragans walked the last two batters he faced and was then pulled from the game. There was no news on this injury after the game, so the hope is that it was because it’s not too serious. There has been no indication of whether or not he will in fact make his next start, so that is something to monitor. For now, consider him DTD until we are updated on this situation.

Nolan Jones – OF Colorado Rockies (back)

Jones heads to the Injured List with a back injury that the team has been managing all season long. There is no word on if this will be a minimum stay on the Injured List or if extended time will be needed.

Luis Robert Jr. – OF Chicago White Sox (hip)

Great news here, as it looks like Robert is progressing quite well. While it’s great to see him almost at 100%, it’s important to note that the team will likely be cautious with him regarding how hard they push him immediately. That said, he is on the right path to returning.

Mike Trout – OF Los Angeles Angels (torn meniscus)

This came seemingly out of nowhere, though Trout did say that he felt the injury in his knee the day before in the third inning. The good news is that he will likely be back at some point this season. While on the Injured List, he wasn’t placed on the 60-day version, which could mean they believe he could return before then. Either way, it’s a very unfortunate development for someone who last topped 600 plate appearances in 2019. We should know more about his timeline this week after he has surgery.

Walker Buehler – SP Los Angeles Dodgers (Tommy John Surgery)

Buehler looked every bit the part of a pitcher who was ready to return, fitting five shutout innings over 75 pitches thrown. Ultimately, Dave Roberts will decide what’s next, but chances are that we see Buehler back next week.

Max Scherzer – SP Texas Rangers (back, thumb)

This is an unfortunate development, as Scherzer was supposed to continue his rehab assignment en route to an early return. The hope is that this thumb ailment is nothing serious, as it appeared after his last outing. The team should have a clearer picture of when he can pitch by the end of this week.

Garrett Cooper – 1B Boston Red Sox (wrist contusion)

Cooper got hit by a pitch and will now miss some time with an injured wrist. Chances are that we will know more about a potential timeline for a return once the team gets some imaging done. Stay tuned.

Vaughn Grissom – 2B Boston Red Sox (hamstring, flu)

If it’s the flu that’s preventing an activation, then when he has recovered from it should be a safe bet for a return. Be prepared.

Masataka Yoshida – OF Boston Red Sox (hand)

The hope is that this is something minor and that Yoshida can get back into the Red Sox lineup soon enough. We will know more once the results of the MRI come back.

Miami Marlins – Team Update

A lot to unpack here. Of note, Sandy Alcantara (Tommy John Surgery) will throw on back-to-back days for the first time since his surgery. That’s an accomplishment in and of itself. As for Jake Burger (oblique), his rehab assignment starts tomorrow, and he will likely need about one week before returning. He last played on April 14, nearly three weeks ago. Braxton Garrett (shoulder) will attempt to throw five innings for the first time since his second start, though he did throw 59 pitches in his last start. Additionally, AJ Puk (shoulder) will throw a bullpen and is seemingly past his shoulder fatigue. Finally, Jesus Luzardo (elbow) is slowly working his way back, as his throwing distances have gradually increased. There is and should be no rush for him to return.

Cristian Javier – SP Houston Astros (neck)

Getting Javier back would be another opportunity for the Astros to get out of this early-season slump and back to their dominant ways.

Chas McCormick – OF Houston Astros (hamstring)

It was announced that Joey Loperfido would get his opportunities because of this injury. McCormick has missed the last two games and three out of the last five, and has struggled to continue last season’s success. If Loperfido hits right away, we could see McCormick lose playing time.

Yariel Rodriguez – SP Toronto Blue Jays (thoracic spine inflammation)

This immediately opens the door to Alek Manoah taking over in the rotation. As for Rodriguez, this is an unfortunate development, as he was dealing with this problem in the spring. He will be recovering down in Florida, though there is no timetable for a return.

Blake Snell – SP San Francisco Giants (abductor strain)

Today marks one week since Snell was placed on the Injured List. Since it was retroactive to April 23, he will be eligible to return one week from today. Despite throwing a bullpen session, there has been little in the way of any indication of him returning then.
