MLB Injury Report – Oh no, Soto!

Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Friday, September 20, 2024. In today’s edition, Juan Soto had a scary situation happen to him while making a great play in the outfield. Also, we likely haven’t seen the last of Kenley Jansen just yet, and Bo Bichette’s season is now officially over with a fractured finger. That and so much more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report

Juan Soto – OF New York Yankees (knee)

Soto landed awkwardly while trying to catch a ball near the wall and smashed his knee into the barricade. After some help from the team’s medical staff, he was able to remain in the game. However, afterward, he did say that it hurt a lot. He does plan on playing today, though he admittedly said that how he feels in the morning would be a big way to determine if he would. There will be some updates later today, but for now consider him DTD.

Kenley Jansen – RP Boston Red Sox (lat/shoulder)

Jansen admitted that his lat and shoulder were both bothering him and that he’d been pitching through pain for a while. He did throw a bullpen yesterday, so chances are that he will avoid the Injured List for now. He hopes to just make it through the rest of the season before having a season to rest up.

Ozzie Albies – 2B Atlanta Braves (wrist)

Be prepared.

Kevin Gausman – SP Toronto Blue Jays (back)

Gausman said afterward that he felt okay and that he was likely going to be pulled regardless of what happened to his back. That being said, it’s still concerning and the news could change tomorrow. While he does expect to make his next (and possibly final) start, his updates will be interesting. Stay tuned.

Baltimore Orioles – Team Update

This is a very important update for a team that is losing its mojo at the wrong time. Both Jordan Westburg (hand) and Ramon Urias (ankle) will likely be playing all weekend long at Triple-A Norfolk to get in as much prep as they can before the final week of the season. Ryan Mounbtvastle (wrist) will join them, but because his contribution there will be minimal, there’s a chance he will take almost a week’s worth of simulated at-bats with the team before being declared ready for the postseason. This is not ideal, but it would appear that it’s coming together for the Orioles with just enough time to get some key pieces prepped.

Austin Hays – OF Philadelphia Phillies (abdomen)

It’s good news that Hays seems almost ready to return. Havinga. full workout is big for him, and a weekend’s worth of games at Triple-A Syracuse will give him the mental and physical confidence needed to be ready for the postseason.

Bo Bichette – SS Toronto Blue Jays (finger)

Bichette fracturing his middle finger here is a perfect way to symbolize what his body has done to fantasy owners in 2024. Thus ends a very disappointing season for Bichette who will finish with nine combined home runs and steals and a batting average lower than Paul DeJong’s. It’s been an absolute nightmare for him, but he remains a great buy-low option for 2025.

Trevor Williams – SP Washington Nationals (elbow)

Be prepared.

Victor Robles – OF Seattle Mariners (hand)

Robles was set to return to the Mariners’ lineup yesterday after suffering from a bruised hand, but apparently, he wasn’t at 100% health just yet. Look for him to return at some point this weekend because it sounds like he is close.

Braxton Garrett – SP Miami Marlins (forearm)

With Garrett now built up to 77 pitches, there are murmurs of him returning this Sunday to pitch for the Marlins. If that’s the case, he would line up for one more start in the season’s final week if all goes well. Either way, he could be a sneaky add for owners looking for someone to add volume to their lineup.
