Fantrax MLB Injury Report

Kodai Senga – SP New York Mets (calf)

Senga made his long-awaited return to the mound last night and was forced to exit the game in the top of the sixth inning with an injured calf. During the play, the ball is popped up, and while the Mets are trying to get in position, Senga is seen scrambling around and grabbing at his leg. The only good news here is that it wasn’t his injured shoulder that was the culprit. Still, with these types of injuries being as tricky, the team may play it safe and give him some time on the Injured List to heal.

Giancarlo Stanton – OF New York Yankees (hamstring)

Potentially good news here on Stanton, though we never know with Aaron Boone.

Freddie Freeman – 1B Los Angeles Dodgers (personal)

The Freeman family is wished well as they attempt to push through this event.

Mike Trout – OF Los Angeles Angels (knee)

The news is good concerning the clean MRI, and the hope is that he can resume his running by the end of the weekend. There is no word on if and when he will head back to his rehab assignment.

Thairo Estrada – INF San Francisco Giants (wrist)

This is the same wrist injury that put Estrada on the Injured List earlier this season. Chances are that this time around, he will require a longer trip to the Injured List to hopefully rid himself of this ailment.

Alex Cobb – SP San Francisco Giants (hip)

Great news as Cobb will make his long-awaited season debut, about a month after it was rumored that he would.

Jose Miranda – 3B Minnesota Twins (back)

Be prepared.

Riley Greene – OF Detroit Tigers (hamstring)

Greene went on the Injured List for a hamstring strain, but the team doesn’t consider it to be a major issue. However, Greene stated that he doesn’t know if it’s a Grade 1 or a Grade 2 is a bit confusing. While he is by no means the medical professional here, the hope is that it is of a Grade 1 variety, which would limit his time away considerably.

Arizona Diamondbacks – Team Update

Good news for both Merrill Kelly (shoulder) and Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder), both of whom could begin their respective rehab assignments shortly after these bullpens if all goes well. Stay tuned.

Michael Harris II – OF Atlanta Braves (hamstring)

Harris feeling confident in his return is one thing, but he still has to do some sprinting while remaining on point with his timing at the plate. While a rehab assignment has yet to be announced, that will also be on tap if he is to be back on August 14. There’s still a lot for him to do in the next three weeks.

Houston Astros – Team Update

A lot of news here. First, Justin Verlander (neck) will continue to progress, as a bullpen is on tap for him in the coming days. He has thrown multiple, so it’s unclear as to what the team is looking for, but he’ll do it nonetheless. As for Luis Garcia (elbow), this is his second go-around for him throwing bullpens, and the hope is that he can progress even further. Finally, the news on Kyle Tucker (shin) remains the same day after day. GM Dana Browne did answer some questions regarding why he’s taken so long, and he did say that Tucker did not break a bone, but rather that it was a deep bone bruise. Those types of injuries take months to heal.

Devin Williams – RP Milwaukee Brewers (back)

Williams threw a scoreless outing last night, which could indicate that his return is imminent. Additionally, Williams also posted on his Instagram account a message indicating that he would see us in Milwaukee. While he’s unlikely to pitch today, perhaps a Sunday or Monday return to the mound is in the works. While anything is possible, the biggest takeaway is that he is back.

Christian Yelich – OF Milwaukee Brewers (back)

It looks like, as suspected, surgery is inevitable for Yelich.

Tommy Edman – INF/OF St. Louis Cardinals

What a disastrous season it has been for Tommy Edman. His surgery was announced as an oversight in the offseason, his return was estimated to be in May, and now, here we are in late July, and he is getting days off in his rehab assignment because they don’t want to overwork him. He still hasn’t played in the field at each of the positions he is expected to play when called back up, so expect another week or two, barring any setbacks.
