MLB Injury Report
Corbin Carroll – OF Arizona Diamondbacks
Torey Lovullo on Corbin Carroll's wrist injury:
"X-rays were negative … He's on board, he's with us to Chicago and I'm gonna plan on playing him tomorrow." pic.twitter.com/QILvjnxU1F
— Jesse Friedman (@JesseNFriedman) September 7, 2023
Carroll was diagnosed with a wrist contusion following getting hit by a pitch yesterday. It looks like all will be okay as he is likely playing today. That said, wait to see how he feels today before automatically assuming he will be back.
Michael Soroka – SP Atlanta Braves
Michael Soroka (forearm inflammation) will be shut down for the remainder of the season. But the inflammation was the only thing the tests revealed, which seems like a positive.
— Justin Toscano (@JustinCToscano) September 7, 2023
Soroka won’t pitch again, after his last disastrous start which led to his forearm inflammation. Here’s hoping that the often-injured pitcher can return healthy next season.
Kyle Wright – SP Atlanta Braves
Kyle Wright said he expects to make at least another rehab start.
— Justin Toscano (@JustinCToscano) September 6, 2023
This news comes after throwing 50 pitches in his last outing.
Tim Anderson – SS Chicago White Sox
Shortstop Tim Anderson scratched with neck stiffness. Elvis Andrus at SS tonight and leading off for White Sox.
— Daryl Van Schouwen (@CST_soxvan) September 6, 2023
Consider Anderson DTD while he gets his neck right.
Jonathan India – 2B Cincinnati Reds
Great news here, as India still has a shot to return to the Reds’ lineup before the season ends.
Hunter Greene – SP Cincinnati Reds
Matt Manning – SP Detroit Tigers
Matt Manning’s season is over. Fractured right foot. Different part of the foot than last time
— Chris McCosky (@cmccosky) September 7, 2023
Simply awful news, as Manning had pitched well almost every time he was out there. He will look to rebound and could be a nice buy-low candidate for 2024.
Shohei Ohtani – SP/UT Los Angeles Angels
Shohei Ohtani has a tiny bit of inflammation in his oblique, but it’s not an “injury thing,” Phil’s Nevin said. “I think we dodged a bullet as far as injury goes,” Nevin said.
— Sarah Valenzuela (@Sarah_IsabelVee) September 6, 2023
The first real dosage of good news for Ohtani in quite a while. Here’s hoping he could return at some point this season.
Los Angeles Dodgers – Team Update
More from Dave Roberts:
– The Dodgers could expect Joe Kelly and Michael Grove to come off the IL during the next homestand. They’re viewing Grove as a reliever going forward.
– J.D. Martinez is expected to be activated on Friday in DC.— Fabian Ardaya (@FabianArdaya) September 6, 2023
Michael Grove and Joe Kelly give the Dodgers some bullpen depth, which they’ll need in the playoffs. As for J.D. Martinez, it’s great news for him to be back for the stretch run.
Jorge Soler – OF Miami Marlins
Jorge Soler to 10-day IL with right oblique strain.
Geoff Hartlieb DFA’d.
Dane Myers and Edward Cabrera recalled. Devin Smeltzer contract selected.#Marlins
— Jordan McPherson (@J_McPherson1126) September 6, 2023
It’s unfortunate timing for Soler, as he missed some time and tried to return on Tuesday. Otherwise, his retroactive date for the injury would have been a lot sooner than it is now.
Sandy Alcantara – SP Miami Marlins
Sandy Alcantara is going on the 15-day IL with a right forearm flexor strain#Marlins
— Jordan McPherson (@J_McPherson1126) September 6, 2023
There’s a chance that this ends Alcantara’s season, but time will tell. He is eligible to return on September 19 and we should have some tests results by then.
Andrew McCutchen – OF Pittsburgh Pirates
Pirates DH Andrew McCutchen has a partial tear in his Achilles tendon and will be placed on the 10-day IL. He will be in a walking boot for six weeks so his season appears to be over, one home run shy of 300 for his career.
— Kevin Gorman (@KevinGormanPGH) September 6, 2023
McCutchen’s season is apparently over, as he will be in a walking boot for quite some time.
Jarred Kelenic – OF Seattle Mariners
Jarred Kelenic had a HR and 2 doubles tonight.
Mariners please just bring him to Tampa tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/Q79dbmJ5wl
— Seattle Mariners ON Tap (@MarinersONtap) September 7, 2023
Kelenic now has nine hits in his six games played, and four of them have gone for extra bases. He looks locked in and ready to make up for lost time.
Adolis Garcia – OF Texas Rangers
Adolis García seemed to injure his knee jumping to try to catch Michael Brantley's home run and he was removed from the game pic.twitter.com/4xj2xMI3iw
— Talkin’ Baseball (@TalkinBaseball_) September 7, 2023
The extent of this injury is unknown, but the team does have today off. The hope is that he can return on Friday and help the Rangers recover from the beatdown they took at the hands of the Astros.
Matt Chapman – 3B Toronto Blue Jays
Matt Chapman (finger) is still waiting for swelling and inflammation to subside before he can ramp up baseball activity.
He’s limited to taking groundballs for now — no throwing. Hasn’t swung a bat since he hit IL. He’ll be reevaluated in Toronto on Friday.
— Arden Zwelling (@ArdenZwelling) September 6, 2023
This has been an ongoing issue that won’t subside. There might be some next steps to take if this continues. The hope is that Chapman returns this season, which he likely will. It’s all about when.
Lane Thomas – OF Washington Nationals
Lane Thomas is sitting again tonight, but he said the MRI on his back showed only some inflammation. He expects to be back in the lineup Friday.
— Mark Zuckerman (@MarkZuckerman) September 6, 2023
Thomas has been out of action since September 3 and will continue to miss time. It looks like he will avoid the Injured List and be back this weekend following an injection.
