Second Half MLB Injury Updates
Arizona Diamondbacks
- Jordan Montgomery (knee) may rejoin the rotation right after the All-Star Break.
- Merrill Kelly (shoulder) just finished a two-inning, 32-pitch simulated bullpen and will likely continue along this route for the time being.
- Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) threw a 30-pitch bullpen just days after a follow-up MRI showed healing.
Atlanta Braves
- Michael Harriss III (hamstring) has resumed running, but he has no timetable for a rehab assignment.
Baltimore Orioles
- Heston Kjerstad (concussion) went on the 7-day concussion Injured List on Saturday.
Boston Red Sox
- Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) is set to report to Triple-A Worcester at some point during the All-Star Break for a rehab assignment.
- Triston Casas (ribs) swung off a tee last week and hit soft-toss pitching.
- Liam Hendriks (elbow) has now thrown multiple bullpen sessions but has yet to throw to live batters.
Chicago Cubs
- Cody Bellinger (finger) has a fractured finger and as of last week is without a timetable to return.
- Ben Brown (neck) has been out of action with recurring neck pains.
- Jordan Wicks (oblique) is symptomatic and unable to do much more than play catch.
Chicago White Sox
- Mike Clevinger (elbow, neck) is two starts into his rehab assignment but has a ways to go before being ready.
Cincinnati Reds
- TJ Friedl (hamstring) is aiming to return on July 26.
- Matt McLain (shoulder) is aiming to start a rehab assignment on August 12.
Colorado Rockies
- Nolan Jones (back) was just placed on the Injured List before the break with no timetable for a return.
Detroit Tigers
- Parker Meadows (hamstring) was placed on the Injured List before the All-Star Break but is eligible to return anytime.
- Kerry Carpenter (lumbar stress fracture) has started light jogging and playing catch, but he is without a timetable for a return.
- Casey Mize (hamstring) was placed on the Injured List on July 3 and was expected to miss three starts.
Houston Astros
- Kyle Tucker (shin) just resumed baseball activities on July 11 by playing catch.
- Justin Verlander (neck) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session before the break and is trending toward a return before the end of the month.
Kansas City Royals
- MJ Melendez (ankle) was placed on the Injured List during the break and it is unclear if this is a long-term injury.
Los Angeles Angels
- Mike Trout (knee) is swinging a bat but has outfield work to do, and believes he will be ready by the end of July.
Los Angeles Dodgers
- Mookie Betts (hand) has started fielding groundballs but has yet to resume all baseball activities, such as swinging and hitting.
- Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) threw a total of 50 pitches in his last rehab outing and will throw another outing this week.
- Yoshinobu Yamamoto (shoulder) just started throwing from 60 feet and was also just transferred to the 60-day Injured List.
- Max Muncy (oblique) continues to be delayed, has yet to swing a bat, and may not return until at least August.
- Tyler Glasnow (back) expects to be back from the Injured List when first eligible.
Miami Marlins
- Jesus Luzardo (stress lumbar reaction) is working out on the bike but is also coming along slowly, putting his August return date in jeopardy.
- Braxton Garrett (shoulder) is working on strengthening his shoulder.
Milwaukee Brewers
- Devin Williams (back) worked a perfect inning in his first rehab outing.
- DL Hall (knee, forearm bruise) will be stretched out as a starter after he returns from being shut down since he was hit by a comebacker.
Minnesota Twins
- Carlos Correa (foot) was recently diagnosed with plantar fasciitis, but the belief is that it is not as serious as it was last season when it was on a different foot.
- Jose Miranda (back) was recently placed on the Injured List, and while he is eligible to be activated this weekend, there is no timetable for his return.
- Royce Lewis (right abductor strain) feels ready to return, but the team has some hesitation.
New York Mets
- Kodai Senga (shoulder) pitched well in his last game and could make his next start for the Mets, though there are reports that he will require one more rehab outing.
- Starling Marte (knee) has no timetable for a return with the team completely flabbergasted.
New York Yankees
- Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) won’t be activated this Friday, but he could return soon after that without a rehab assignment.
Philadelphia Phillies
- J.T. Realmuto (knee) likely won’t be activated this week, not because of a setback, but more because bad weather hadn’t allowed him to get in the work that they wanted him to receive.
- Ranger Suarez (back) missed the All-Star Game because of back spasms but should make his first start after the break.
- Zack Wheeler (back) is expected to make his next start on Monday or Tuesday of next week.
Pittsburgh Pirates
- Jared Jones (lat) was shut down from throwing for two weeks on July 5 and should resume doing so soon.
San Diego Padres
- Luis Arraez (thumb) missed the All-Star Game due to an injured thumb that hurts whenever he catches or hits a ball.
- Fernando Tatis (quad) is set to receive an MRI this week to determine the level of healing taking place.
- Joe Musgrove (elbow) has been throwing fastballs only in bullpens and will continue to do so for the time being.
- Yu Darvish (personal) is dealing with a family matter and may not return this season.
San Francisco Giants
- Robbie Ray (elbow) has looked dominant in all of his outings during his rehab assignment, including his latest one.
St. Louis Cardinals
- Tommy Edman (wrist, ankle) has played in four rehab games and will continue to do so for the time being, but has yet to play in the field.
Tamp Bay Rays
- Jeffrey Springs (Tommy John Surgery) just completed his seventh outing for Triple-A Durham and could make his 2024 debut for Tampa Bay in the near future.
Texas Rangers
- Josh Jung (wrist) was said to be ramping up during the All-Star Break and could start a rehab assignment soon, though the swelling in his wrist needs to subside.
- Tyler Mahle (Tommy John Surgery) just completed his third rehab outing.
- Jacob deGrom (Tommy John Surgery) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session and included his changeup in the mix.
- Evan Carter (lumbar strain) could begin a rehab assignment after the All-Star Break.
Toronto Blue Jays
- Bo Bichette (calf) missed the final four games of the season after tweaking his calf, and a decision has yet to be made on his availability for the start of the second half of the season.
- Yimi Garcia (elbow) was on his way to rejoin the Jays last Sunday but ultimately did not with no reason given.
Washington Nationals
- Trevor Williams (forearm strain) has not yet been cleared to throw, but there haven’t been updates in weeks.
- Josiah Gray (elbow) may require season-ending surgery.
- Cade Cavalli (Tommy John Surgery, illness) hasn’t pitched since June 24 because of an illness and is rebuilding himself back up.
