Don’t worry, there is still one more game to be played. It’s not one to be taken likely as we close out the week in Arrowhead Stadium with the New Orleans Saints traveling to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs. Seeing the Chiefs play in primetime is nothing new for us, but it also never gets old to see Patrick Mahomes do his thing. Here are some Monday Night Football NFL DFS picks with preferences ranked within each category so you can find success.
Monday Night Football DFS Picks – New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs
Captain
Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs
In a season where Patrick Mahomes hasn’t necessarily been his best, playing in prime time always agrees with the Chiefs quarterback. The best game of the season for Mahomes was his first, which came in front of a national audience, and that trend should continue on Monday.
Through four games, Mahomes has 904 passing yards with six touchdowns while also throwing five interceptions. We know that Mahomes is capable of more than this, and to some degree, this is a pick based on track record. Mahomes is the best quarterback New Orleans will face this season and the extra day might be what he needs to truly get on track.
Alvin Kamara, RB, New Orleans Saints
Well, we have to respect the fact that the Chiefs are allowing the fewest DFS points to opposing running backs, I don’t really want to. It’s just four weeks of data to work with, and we can’t ignore what Kamara is doing to begin the 2024 season. With an average of 27.4 DFS points per game, Kamara is performing at a high level while bringing upside that few others can on this slate.
Kamara has failed to reach the end zone in just one of four games this season with five rushing touchdowns and a sixth coming through the air. Quantity and quality have both been on display this season as Kamara hasn’t carried the ball fewer than 15 times in a week or gained less than 77 yards. In each of the last three weeks, Kamara has supplemented that with at least 40 receiving yards. It’s clear who the Saints offense is focused on and that should continue this week.
Flex
Derek Carr, QB, New Orleans Saints
Even while Derek Carr has had some good matchups, his performances haven’t been truly insane from a DFS perspective. While Carr did have three touchdowns in Week 1, he has to throw for more than 243 yards in a game this season. In total, Carr has six touchdowns and three interceptions with 824 passing yards.
While playing in Arrowhead could be tough, the Kansas City defense hasn’t been truly imposing to this point. Carr isn’t a player I’m looking to force into my lineup if he doesn’t fit, but there is likely little risk here.
Travis Kelce, TE, Kansas City Chiefs
Now we are getting closer. With his Week 4 performance, we finally began to see more of what we have begun to expect from Travis Kelce. The tight end is still looking for his first touchdown of the season, but he had season highs across the board. Kelce caught seven of nine targets for 89 yards and with Rashee Rice sidelined, that workload should only continue. It also helps that the Saints have allowed the fourth most DFS points to opposing tight ends this season.
Kareem Hunt, RB, Kansas City Chiefs
After one week on the practice squad, Kareem Hunt hit the ground running. The Chiefs made things clear as far as their intentions in the backfield in Week 4. At this point, things should only continue in a similar fashion. That puts Hunt squarely on our radar once again.
You wouldn’t have known that Hunt made his season debut last week. All the veteran did was gain 69 yards on 14 carries. He also caught two passes for another 16 yards as he proved capable of handling the workload.
Xavier Worthy, WR, Kansas City Chiefs
Among the Chiefs’ top three receivers, Xavier Worthy is the last one standing. The rookie still has yet to catch more than three passes in a game, but that has to change this week, right? That also means the rookie needs to be targeted more than four times on Monday.
Worthy caught his second career touchdown last week as his 54-yard scoring catch represented the majority of his production. There is some level of projection here, but the situation is aligning itself for Worthy. The skill set is there as is the opportunity.
Chris Olave, WR, New Orleans Saints
Chris Olave has struggled to find the end zone, just one touchdown through four weeks, but we can’t argue with the consistent target share. After catching only two passes in Week 1, Olave has seen his receptions gradually increase each week to eight in Week 4. Olave has three straight games of at least 81 receiving yards as he finds his groove. Olave’s role appears secure as the number one receiver.
Value
Justin Watson, WR, Kansas City Chiefs
There are big shoes to fill in the absence of Rashee Rice, and it will likely be done by committee. Justin Watson saw his workload increase last week after Rice was injured. The expectation is that the trend will continue in Week 5. Watson was able to convert his three targets to two receptions for 27 yards.
Watson is likely not the only Kansas City receiver who has the ability to step up, but he has had a consistent role each week. Granted he only has six receptions on the season, but Watson has at least one catch per week. That is more than Ju Ju Smith-Schuster and Skyy Moore can say.
Fade
Samaje Perine, RB, Kansas City Chiefs
That was fun while it lasted. The expectation was that Samaje Perine would be playing more of a third-down role, but he didn’t catch a pass last week. In fact, Perine wasn’t even targeted as the had just five touches. Perine didn’t do much with his five carries, just 14 yards, as he goes back to a supporting role. Hunt has proven to be capable of taking control of the Chiefs’ backfield and that will continue.
