Must Know Fantasy Football Notes from Week 2

With 32 teams in the NFL comes a lot to take note of every week that have Fantasy Football impact. Who has time to dig into all of that though, right? What if you could have all of what you need in one spot, weekly? You can, and it is this series. Each week I spend time digging into what happened in the NFL, so you do not have to. My focus is always Fantasy Football, so I make sure to note what is important for managers to know that applies directly to the game we all know and love. Roles, touches, targets, efficiency, production, game scripts, and many other variables create a bigger picture beyond straight Fantasy Football scores at the end of the day. This article intends to give you a weekly edge over your league-mates by simply knowing more, understanding the context, not missing what others will, and being prepared for the next week in the Fantasy Football world. Let’s get rolling here with what happened in Week 2.

Must Know Fantasy Football Notes: Week 2

Arizona Cardinals

  • After a poor NFL debut, Marvin Harrison Jr. explodes in Week 2, showing us exactly who he is. Four receptions on eight targets for 130 receiving yards and two touchdowns. 29 Fantasy Points. Alpha wide receiver performance with major Fantasy implications moving forward.
  • Much better day at the office as well for Kyler Murray who threw 17/21 (81%) for 266 yards and three touchdowns, and he rushed for 59 yards as well. 28.54 Fantasy Points. This is the upside Kyler has.
  • After scoring 19.3 Fantasy Points in Week 1, James Conner scored 19.4 Fantasy Points in Week 2. If that is not consistent, I do not know what is. Conner rushed 21 times for 122 yards and a touchdown and caught a pass for two yards. Workhorse running back.
  • Solid receiving day for Trey McBride who caught all six targets for 67 yards, scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery, and finished with 18.7 Fantasy Points. This is the type of Fantasy performance I expect more of than not.

Baltimore Ravens

  • After being missed on a wide-open touchdown in Week 1, Zay Flowers found the end zone in Week 2. Flowers caught seven of his 11 targets for a much more productive 91 receiving yards vs the 37 he had last week. 22.1 Fantasy Points on the day. Flowers has been targeted 10 and 11 times in the last two weeks.
  • 46 rushing yards and a touchdown in Week 1 turned to 84 rushing yards and a touchdown in Week 2 for Derrick Henry. 16.6 Fantasy Points is a better outing as well, and while I think a lot of his Fantasy stock will be attached to touchdowns we cannot dismiss he is going to score a lot of them.
  • Lamar Jackson threw 21/34 for 247 yards and a touchdown. After rushing for 122 in Week 1 he finished with 45 yards on the ground in Week 2. 16.38 Fantasy Points.
  • Mark Andrews was targeted five times to Isaiah Likely’s three times. Andrews finished with 51 yards compared to Likely’s 26. This is important to note after Likely’s explosion in Week 1 and Andrews looking not part of the gameplan.

Buffalo Bills

  • James Cook rushed 11 times for 78 yards and two touchdowns and caught a 17-yard pass for another touchdown. 28.5 Fantasy Points was a massive day for Cook in the blowout win over the Dolphins.
  • Khalil Shakir caught all five targets for 54 yards and carried the ball once for just two yards. Dalton Kincaid earned four targets, Curtis Samuel earned two targets, and Keon Coleman was targeted just once.
  • The Bills did not have to do much in this 31-10 win

Carolina Panthers

  • Chuba Hubbard rushed 10 times for 64 yards and caught four passes for 12 yards. 11.6 Fantasy Points after scoring 1.4 the week prior
  • This is the second week in a row that the Panthers did not have a player reach 12 Fantasy Points. Hubbard’s 11.6 points in Week 2 has been the only player in two weeks to score 10 or more. Bryce Young is getting benched for Andy Dalton after a disastrous start to the season.

Chicago Bears

  • DJ Moore was the only player to score 10+ Fantasy Points in Week 2. DJM caught six of 10 targets for 53 yards.
  • Caleb Williams threw 23/37 (62.2%) for 174 yards and two interceptions. Caleb also rushed five times for 44 yards. The offensive line looked terrible but Williams did in moments he needed to make plays as well.
  • Khalil Herbert rushed for a touchdown but finished with just four touches for seven yards. D’Andre Swift inefficiently rushed 14 times for 18 yards and caught four passes for 24 yards.

Cincinnati Bengals

  • Joe Burrow threw 23/36 for 258 passing yards and two passing touchdowns. Burrow rushed for nine yards and fumbled in the game, but had a much more productive day than Week 1. 17.22 Fantasy Points.
  • Mike Gesicki caught seven of his nine targets for 91 yards. 16.1 Fantasy Points. Gesicki’s role is worthy of monitoring and he may be a streamer.
  • Ja’Marr Chase had another underwhelming performance, and at this point, we have to speculate if he is putting in his best efforts or not due to the contract situation. Chase caught four of five targets for 35 yards. 7.5 Fantasy Points.
  • 13 to four touches in favor of Zack Moss over Chase Brown. Neither were productive but the gap is worth noting again.

Cleveland Browns

  • Deshaun Watson threw 22/34 (64.7) for 186 yards and rushed five times for 20 yards with a rushing touchdown. The rushing touchdown saved him from another really poor Fantasy week. Not showing signs of upside.
  • Jerry Jeudy was once again the most productive wide receiver on the roster, catching five of his six targets for 73 yards. Amari Cooper on the other hand scored under five Fantasy Points for the second week in a row catching just three of his eight targets for 11 yards.
  • Jerome Ford was more yardage productive but was out-touched 15 to eight by D’Onta Foreman which is worth noting.

Dallas Cowboys

  • Week 2 was a better CeeDee Lamb week, transitioning from 13.6 to 19 Fantasy Points. Lamb caught four of his seven targets for 90 yards and a touchdown. I am wondering if Lamb is still catching up from his holdout before the season.
  • Jalen Tolbert caught six of his nine targets for 82 yards, scoring 14.2 Fantasy Points. Big leap from his Week 1 performance and involvement. Luke Schoonmaker stepped in for an injured Jake Ferguson and caught all six targets for 43 yards.
  • 11 touches to eight in favor of Rico Dowdle over Ezekiel Elliott this week. Neither of the backs was productive. That makes me wonder if Dalvin Cook will get a look sometime soon.
  • Dak Prescott threw 27/39 (69.2%) for 293 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. Dak has scored 11.46 then 12.92 points in the opening weeks which truly burns Fantasy managers.

Denver Broncos

  • Josh Reynolds caught four of his five targets for 93 yards. Reynolds was targeted eight times in Week 1 and looks like the best receiver right now which does not say much. Greg Dulcich caught just three passes for 16 yards but was targeted eight times.
  • Lil’Jordan Humphrey caught four passes for 50 yards, Courtland Sutton caught a pass for 26 yards, and Marvin Mims Jr caught a pass for 10 yards.
  • Javonte Williams rushed 11 times for 17 yards (1.5 yards per carry) but caught five passes for 48 yards. Jaleel McLaughlin rushed three times for six yards after totaling 15 touches in Week 1.
  • Bo Nix has tossed a pair of interceptions in both Week 1 and Week 2. Nix did finish with 246 yards, which was over 100 more yards than Week 1 but continues to look super iffy.

Detroit Lions

  • Amon-Ra St. Brown bounced back to true form in Week 2 after scoring 4.3 Fantasy Points in Week 1. ARSB caught 11 of his massive 19 targets for 119 receiving yards and scored 22.9 Fantasy Points. ARSB exited Week 2 with concerns for a bigger injury but reports on Monday indicated that he was dealing with a lower-body contusion and cramping.
  • Jahmyr Gibbs rushed 13 times for 84 yards and caught seven balls for 22 yards. David Montgomery rushed 11 times for 35 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 35 yards. This duo scored 17.6 and 17 points and have both scored 16+ in both weeks for Fantasy Football.
  • After Jameson Williams’ massive Week 1, he continued his production into Week 2, catching five of 11 targets for 79 yards and also rushing once for 15. 14.4 Fantasy Points after 24.4 in the opener. Jamo has now been targeted 20 times across the last two weeks. A major part of this offense.
  • Jared Goff threw 34/55 (61.8%) for 307 but for two interceptions. Goff has scored under 12 Fantasy Points two weeks in a row now. Sam LaPorta scored a disappointing 8.5 Fantasy Points in Week 1, then went on to score a worse 3.3 Fantasy Points in Week 2. Five and then three targets in the last two games is a concern.

Green Bay Packers

  • Josh Jacobs rushed 32 times for 151 yards (4.7 yards per carry) in a game we knew was going to be scripted on the ground. Major production from Jacobs. MarShawn Lloyd made his NFL debut, rushing six times for 15 yards and catching a pass but sustained an ankle injury.
  • Malik Willis threw 12/14 for 122 yards and a touchdown and rushed six times for 41 yards. He likely will suit up next week for a revenge game against his former team, the Titans.
  • Dontayvion Wicks caught three of his four targets for 26 yards and a touchdown. Romeo Doubs caught all three targets for 62 yards. Jayden Reed caught both targets for nine yards and rushed twice for 37 yards. Tucker Kraft earned two targets with Luke Musgrave earning just one for the tight end room. Kraft > Musgrave continues

Houston Texans

  • Nico Collins finished last week with a massive 117 receiving yards, then decided to up that total to 135 in Week 2. Nico caught eight of 10 targets, with one of those being a touchdown. 17.7 then 27.5 Fantasy Points the opening two weeks.
  • CJ Stroud threw 23/36 (63.9%) for 260 yards and a touchdown. 14.3 Fantasy Points. Joe Mixon left the game, returned, and is still a guy to monitor due to his ankle injury.
  • Stefon Diggs caught four of his six targets for just 37 yards, which was the same target total and four more yards than Week 1. Tank Dell caught one of his four targets for negative yardage, and has scored under nine Fantasy Points in both weeks.

Indianapolis Colts

  • After catching some bombs in Week 1 that resulted in 125 yards and a touchdown, Alec Pierce shined again in Week 2. Pierce caught five of his seven targets for 56 yards and another touchdown. 21.5 then 16.6 Fantasy Points in his opening two weeks.
  • Jonathan Taylor rushed 12 times for 103 yards (8.3 yards per attempt) and caught two passes for 32 yards. 15.5 Fantasy Points on the day.
  • Anthony Richardson threw 17/34 (50%) for 204 yards, a touchdown, and three interceptions. Richardson rushed four times for 37 yards as well. Adonai Mitchell caught one of his four targets for 30 yards, and most concerning is Michael Pittman Jr. who caught three of his seven targets for 21 yards. MPJ has scored under eight Fantasy Points in back-to-back weeks despite eight and seven targets in them.

Jacksonville Jaguars

  • Travis Etienne Jr. rushed 13 times for 52 yards (4.0 yards per carry), a touchdown, and caught three passes. 14.8 Fantasy Points was an improvement from the 11.9 last week. Tank Bigsby rushed 12 times for 73 yards in Week 1, which was a concern to Etienne, but exited Week 2 with a shoulder injury.
  • Trevor Lawrence threw 14/30 (46.7%) for 220 passing yards and rushed twice for 45 yards. TLaw’s first-round weapon Brian Thomas Jr. caught two of his four targets for 94 yards. BTJ has opened up the season with a touchdown in Week 1, then a bigger receiving yard day in Week 2, proving to be the missing upside Lawrence has needed.
  • Brenton Strange had a boosted role in Evan Engram’s absence and caught three of his six targets for 65 yards. Christian Kirk caught one of his three targets for negative yards. Kirk has earned just seven targets across two games and has scored 4.0 and 0.9 Fantasy Points so far.

Kansas City Chiefs

  • After scoring 17.3 Fantasy Points in the opener, Rashee Rice finished with 18.5 in Week 2. Rice caught five of his six targets for 75 yards and a touchdown. Rice is clearly the top receiving option.
  • Isiah Pacheco rushed 19 times for 90 yards and caught five passes for 21 yards. 15.8 then 16.1 Fantasy Points to open the season up but unfortunately he is likely to hit the injured reserve due to fracturing his fibula. News dropped on Monday that he is set to miss 6-8 weeks. We will have to now determine who will be the next man up for the Pacheco role between Samaje Perine, Carson Steele, and maybe even Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
  • Patrick Mahomes threw 18/25 (72%) for 151 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, and rushed for 29 yards. Mahomes has scored 15.14 and 12.94 points in the opening two weeks.
  • After an explosive NFL debut, Xavier Worthy finished with just 4.2 points. Five touches in Week 1 turned into six touches in Week 2 for the rookie. Travis Kelce caught just one of his three targets and rushed for a yard. Kelce’s involvement has been extremely cautious it feels.

Los Angeles Chargers

  • Quentin Johnston caught five of his six targets for 51 yards and two scores. 22.2 Fantasy Points. Johnston was a first-round selection last season and has been targeted 11 times through two weeks now. Big waiver wire name.
  • After rushing for 135 yards and a touchdown in Week 1, JK Dobbins rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown in Week 2. Dobbins finished Week 2 with 18 touches and has scored over 20 Fantasy Points in both games so far this season. One of the biggest pleasant surprises of the season. Gus Edwards rushed 18 times for 59 yards.
  • Justin Herbert threw 14/20 (70%) for 130 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and rushed for 18 yards. Will Dissly earned three targets, Ladd McConkey earned four targets, Joshua Palmer earned two targets, and Hayden Hurst earned two targets but none of them scored six Fantasy Points.

Los Angeles Rams

  • Kyren Williams rushed inefficiently again in Week 2, and has averaged 2.8 then 2.1 yards per attempt this season. Williams rushed 12 times for 25 yards but another rushing touchdown saved his day, and he caught four passes for 27 yards. Williams has scored 14.4 then 15.2 Fantasy Points so far this season.
  • Matthew Stafford threw 19/27 (70.4%) for 216 yards and ended up fumbling. Cooper Kupp needed to be helped to the locker room right before halftime with an ankle injury and was seen leaving the locker room in a walking boot. The Rams may be operating now without both Kupp and Puka Nacua but we are not sure for how long.
  • Tutu Atwell caught three of four targets for 48 yards. Demarcus Robinson caught two of four targets for 50 yards. Jordan Whittington caught both targets for 22 yards. Tyler Johnson caught two of his three targets for 20 yards. Colby Parkinson caught one of his two targets for 12 yards. One or two of these guys is going to have to step up.

Las Vegas

  • Davante Adams looked much more himself in Week 2, catching nine of his 12 targets for 110 yards and a touchdown. Adams scored 26 points after opening up the season with 10.9.
  • Brock Bowers upped his 11.8 Fantasy Point NFL debut to 18.8 Fantasy Points in Week 2. Bowers caught all nine targets for 98 yards. The rookie has been targeted 17 times through two weeks and is looking like a force for his position.
  • Zamir White finished with 12 touches and under seven Fantasy Points for the second week in a row. Alexander Mattison finished with four touches but scored on the ground after scoring through the air last week.

Miami Dolphins

  • After scoring 23 Fantasy Points in Week 1, De’Von Achane scored 29.5 Fantasy Points in Week 2. Achane rushed 22 times for 96 yards (4.4 yards per carry) and caught seven passes for 69 yards and a receiving touchdown. Achane has caught seven passes now two weeks in a row, which is a huge PPR boost to his upside.
  • Tua Tagovalioa threw 17/25 (68%) for 145 yards, a touchdown, and three interceptions before exiting the game with a concussion. This is Tua’s fourth documented concussion, and his timeline to return is completely unknown at this point.
  • Jonnu Smith caught six of his seven targets for 52 yards, Jaylen Waddle caught all four targets for 41 yards, and Tyreek Hill caught three of his six targets for 24 yards and rushed once for 12.

Minnesota Vikings

  • Justin Jefferson caught four of his seven targets for 133 yards and a touchdown. Jefferson scored a touchdown last week but had a more typical yardage and Fantasy scoring day (23.3 points). Jefferson is currently day-to-day with a quad injury that does not sound serious.
  • Sam Darnold threw 17/26 (65.4%) for 268 passing yards, two touchdowns, an interception, and rushed for 32 yards. This was the second week in a row Darnold threw two touchdowns with an interception. 19.92 Fantasy Points without Jordan Addison and TJ Hockenson makes Darnold a future streaming candidate.
  • Jalen Nailor caught three of his four targets for 54 yards and a touchdown. This was the second game in a row Nailor scored a touchdown and 14.4 Fantasy Points was a FLEX-worthy play. Aaron Jones rushed nine times for 32 yards and caught five passes for 36 yards.

New England Patriots

  • Hunter Henry caught eight of 12 targets for 109 yards and finished with 18.9 Fantasy Points. Big week after the entire pass-catching offense was quiet in Week 1.
  • Rhamondre Stevenson rushed 21 times for 81 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for nin yards. Stevenson has not finished with 21.6 and 17 Fantasy Points in the last two weeks with a rushing touchdown and quality volume in each game. Antonio Gibson rushed 11 times for 96 yards and caught a pass for seven.
  • Rookie Ja’Lynn Polk caught two of his three targets for 12 yards and his first career touchdown. KJ Osborn caught one of two targets for seven yards. Demario Douglas did not earn a target.

New Orleans Saints

  • Alvin Kamara was the most Fantasy-dominant player of the week, doubling his 22 Fantasy Points from Week 1 to 44 in Week 2. Kamara rushed 20 times for 115 yards, scored three rushing touchdowns, and caught two passes for 65 yards and a receiving touchdown. Kamara has rushed very efficiently at 5.5 then 5.8 yards per target the last two games, and is exploding for Fantasy.
  • Derek Carr has now scored over 21 Fantasy Points for two weeks in a row. Carr threw 11/16 (68.8%) for 243 passing yards, two touchdowns, an interception, and a rushing touchdown. Carr being a Fantasy stud two weeks in a row was not on my 2024 bingo card.
  • Rashid Shaheed caught three passes for 73 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 then went on to catch four passes for 96 yards and a touchdown in Week 2. High-upside FLEX option due to the big-play ability that Carr has been connecting on. Chris Olave had a better week catching four of his six targets for 81 yards. 12.8 Fantasy Points for Olave is still nothing to be excited about, but after scoring 3.1 in Week 1 at least he is trending up.

New York Giants

  • Malik Nabers had his coming out party as well this week, catching 10 of 18 targets for 127 yards and a touchdown. A dominant 28.7 Fantasy Point week is a glimpse of more to come for the first-round rookie. Wan’Dale Robinson scored a touchdown in Week 2 which is another positive sign after being targeted 12 times in Week 1.
  • Daniel Jones had a much better outing in Week 2 throwing 16/28 (57.1%) for 178 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, 32 rushing yards, and 18.32 Fantasy Points.
  • Devin Singletary rushed 16 times for 95 yards and a touchdown. 14.5 Fantasy Points was useful for a guy drafted later this year.

New York Jets

  • Breece Hall rushed 14 times for 62 yards and caught seven passes for 52 yards and a receiving touchdown. 24.4 Fantasy Points for Hall in Week 2 after scoring 18.3 in Week 1 shows his continued Fantasy dominance. Rookie Braelon Allen finished with nine total touches but managed to rush for a touchdown and catch a touchdown, showing to be a must-roster handcuff at least.
  • Aaron Rodgers threw 18/30 (60%) for 176 passing yards, two touchdowns, and scored 15.14 Fantasy Points. Rodgers is not much of a Fantasy impact this year and is not helping Garrett Wilson become one either. Wilson caught four of six targets for 57 yards and scored 10.2 Fantasy Points on the day.

Pittsburgh Steelers

  • The 13-6 win over the Broncos did not bring much Fantasy relevance with no players scoring 12 Fantasy Points. Two big plays by George Pickens were wiped by penalties. Najee Harris continues to have a large gap between him and any other running back in terms of touches which is different from last year. Justin Fields likely keeps the job another week and it is his to lose until we hear otherwise.

Seattle Seahawks

  • Geno Smith threw 33/44 (75%) for 327 passing yards and a touchdown. Geno has now scored 17-ish Fantasy Points in back-to-back weeks, and his passing play elevated some of the playmakers to huge Fantasy weeks.
  • DK Metcalf had a monster Week 2, catching 10 of his 14 targets for 129 receiving yards and a touchdown for 28.9 Fantasy Points. Jaxon Smith-Njigba was dominant as well as the favorite target of the day, catching 12 of his 16 for 117 receiving yards. If Geno plays the way he did in Week 2, this wide-receiver duo can turn into one of the best pairs in the NFL and for Fantasy Football. Great volume and great production for both guys.
  • Zach Charbonnet filled in for an injured Kenneth Walker III and rushed 14 times for 38 yards (inefficient on the ground again) but for a touchdown and also caught five balls for 31 yards.

San Francisco 49ers

  • George Kittle had a monster game in Week 2, catching seven passes for 76 yards and a touchdown on eight targets. Kittle has averaged 10 and then 10.9 yards per catch the last two weeks and finished with 20.6 points in Week 2.
  • Deebo Samuel caught eight of 10 targets for 110 receiving yards and rushed twice but for negative yardage. Deebo has finished with 18.7 and then 18 Fantasy Points the last two weeks and has 19 targets on the year. Brandon Aiyuk earned five targets for the second week in a row and has yet to score nine Fantasy Points.
  • Jordan Mason had a dominant Week 1 filling in for an injured Christian McCaffrey with 147 yards and a touchdown and then went on to produce 100 rushing yards and a touchdown in Week 2. Over 21 touches in both weeks and 22.2/17.4 Fantasy Football scores are making Mason one of the best pickups for Fantasy of the year so far with CMC on the IR.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • Chris Godwin had another great Fantasy week, scoring 22.3 points in the opener and then 24.7 points in Week 2. Godwin caught seven of eight targets for 117 receiving yards and scored a receiving touchdown for the second week in a row. Godwin is looking like one of the best, if not THE best bounce-back players of the year so far through two weeks.
  • Baker Mayfield threw 12/19 (63.2%) for 185 yards and a touchdown and also added 35 rushing yards and a touchdown with his legs. 29.66 then 18.8 Fantasy Point weeks make Baker look like an every-week starter instead of a streamer for the position.
  • Rachaad White sustained a groin injury that is not said to be major, but we will need to monitor that. White finished with 11 touches to Bucky Irving’s seven this week.

Tennessee Titans

  • Calvin Ridley caught four of his six targets for 77 yards and a touchdown in Week 2. Ridley rushed for a 10-yard score as well which meant 24.7 Fantasy Points.
  • Tony Pollard rushed 17 times for 62 yards and caught five passes for 40 yards. Pollard has now scored 18.4 and 15.2 Fantasy Points in the first two weeks. Tyjae Spears sustained an ankle injury but reports indicate that he avoided a major one in Week 2.
  • Will Levis has now thrown for 127/192 passing yards, two total passing touchdowns, three total interceptions, and has fumbled once each week. Levis is off to a rough start. Not as rough as DeAndre Hopkins though for Fantasy, who has scored 1.8/1.9 points in the opening two games.

Washington Commanders

  • Brian Robinson Jr. rushed 17 times for a massive 133 yards in Week 2. BRob has now scored 17.9 and then 14.6 Fantasy Points in the first two weeks of football. Austin Ekeler rushed eight times for 38 yards and caught three passes for 47 yards for 11.5 Fantasy Points.
  • Jayden Daniels threw 23/29 (79.3%) for 226 passing yards and rushed 10 times for 44 yards. Daniels has yet to throw an NFL touchdown but has proven to have Fantasy upside with his rushing in Week 1 and then some passing yards in Week 2. So far it looks like Daniels could have a negative impact on Terry McLaurin who was targeted four then eight times the opening two weeks but has produced under 23 yards in both games and not scored nine Fantasy Points yet.
