With the 6th pick the New York Giants picked Duke QB Daniel Jones
Jones was widely ranked as the fourth best QB coming out of the 2019 NFL Draft, but he was taken as the second passer overall. He may not be as dynamic as some of the other QBs ranked ahead of him, and some have touted him as a game manager type. But he is confident in the pocket and can buy more time with his mobility. He gives the Giants more of a dual threat as a runner, too. Jones throws a very accurate ball, in short range and downfield. If he gets proper pass protection he can be consistently effective.
Fantasy Impact of Daniel Jones
Jones enters a seemingly ideal situation with a very strong supporting cast and a veteran teacher in Eli Manning. There are questions about how pro-ready he will be as an NFL starter, so he could sit until it becomes clear that the Giants can no longer compete under Manning, which could be quick. The offense will revolve heavily around Saquon Barkley early in his career and his WR corps are made for high percentage passers rather than explosive gunslingers. The New York offense could be heavy run based around Barkley and Jones, which would make him more of an eventual QB2 type and streamer. He should not be a prime pick in rookie drafts.
