NFL Week 2 Monday Night Football Preview

The Atlanta Falcons (0-1) will travel north and face off against the Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) in an exciting Week 2 Monday Night Football showdown. The game will take place at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia and is scheduled to start at 8:15 pm EST. Both teams are looking to assert themselves early in the season, making this game crucial for setting the tone moving forward.

NFL Week 2 Monday Night Football Matchup

The Eagles are coming off a strong Week 1 performance where they defeated the Green Bay Packers 34-29. Led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia’s offense is dynamic and versatile, capable of beating teams both through the air and on the ground.

The Eagles offense is loaded, as star receiver Devonta Smith and star tight end Dallas Goedert are two key returning playmakers from a year ago. The Eagles also added running back Saquon Barkley this past offseason, who scored three touchdowns in his debut.

The Eagles will be without their all-pro receiver A.J. Brown as he is recovering from a hamstring Injury. Brown led the team in targets (158), receiving yards(1,456), and touchdown scores (seven) in 2023.

The Falcons, meanwhile, are an emerging team with a lot of potential, particularly on offense. They are returning a squad loaded with playmakers like receiver Drake London, tight end Kyle Pitts, and superstar running back Bijan Robinson and boast one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.

During the offseason, they hired a new head coach Raheem Morris, and signed quarterback Kirk Cousins to a four-year, $180 million contract. Now, with Cousins at the helm, the Falcons will not only look to make the playoffs but will try to capitalize on their weak division (NFC South) to secure a high seed.

Their season got off to a rough start in Week 1, losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers 18-10. There was obviously rust as this was Cousins’ first start since suffering a season-ending ACL injury in 2023, as well as it was his first look with his new team.

Fantasy Outlook

From a fantasy football perspective for the Eagles, this matchup offers plenty of intriguing things to consider. Will Smith’s and Goedert’s value go up? Who will receive a larger compensation of Brown’s targets? And, how will Barkley look in his second game after his astounding debut with the Eagles? I would start all three, but I have my eyes on Goedert having a good game.

In terms of the Falcons, will they be able to get their offense rolling? Cousins, who has been a reliable fantasy quarterback for the past decade, looked really bad in Week 1. Will he be able to do his job and distribute the ball to the playmakers? If so, which playmakers will stand out? Pitts scored the team’s only touchdown in Week 1, while London only had two catches (15 yards). I have my eyes on Pitts having an even bigger game and once again leading the receiving group in fantasy points.
