Oakland Athletics Top Prospects For Dynasty Leagues

Welcome to our 2022 team top prospect rankings series. Leading up to Minor League Opening Day, Eric Cross and Chris Clegg will go through all 30 Major League organizations, continuing today with their Oakland Athletics Top Prospects for dynasty leagues. In each installment of this series, you’ll find the top-20 rankings from both Eric Cross (AVG) and Chris Clegg (OBP) along with one prospect each that they’re targeting heavily in dynasty leagues right now. Hopefully, these rankings will help you in your dynasty leagues, and maybe give you some new trade targets to consider.

If we had done this a month ago, this Oakland system, specifically the top-10, would’ve looked a lot different. After dealing away Chris Bassitt, Matt Chapman, and Matt Olson, the Athletics have restocked their farm system a bit, which includes six in each of our top-11s below. Overall, this farm system is still likely bottom-10 overall, but these recent acquisitions have the system on the rise.

Cross’ Prospect to Target: Denzel Clarke

If you’re looking for an upside grab from this system that you can acquire for cheap or even pick up off the waiver wire, Denzel Clarke is a great name to target. The 6’5 Cal State Northridge outfielder was selected by the Athletics in the 4th round, but the offensive upside could make him one of the biggest steals from 2021/22 FYPDs.

Clarke is a plus runner with above-average to plus raw power as well. However, the hit tool has lagged behind and he has a tendency to chase out of the zone too frequently. Despite being a 3-year collegiate player, he’s still a bit raw in the hit tool department, which will ultimately be the X-factor when it comes to his development and overall value for fantasy purposes. With some contact and approach gains, even to get to 45-hit, Clarke could develop into a 15+ homer, 20+ SB outfielder for Oakland down the road.

Clegg’s Prospect to Target: Cristian Pache

His prospect status will be gone soon, but now is a great time to buy-low on Cristian Pache. The former jewel of Atlanta’s farm system has not panned out how many hoped to this point of his career. Pache made his MLB debut at 21 years old and in 72 big league plate appearances, he has a .119/.157/.209 slash line with one home run and no steals.

Pache was going to be the Braves’ everyday center fielder for 2021, but a hamstring injury and offensive struggles limited him to just 22 games. The move to Oakland opens up a path to clear playing time and a chance for Pache to really iron out his game and the ability to hit against big-league pitching.

He came into Spring Training looking jacked, so it will be interesting to see if we see any power development. There are few prospects that are ranked as low as Pache that have the ability to hit 15 home runs and steal 20 bases if all clicks right. I see this as a good buying window on Pache.
