Royals and Athletics Swap Parts

The Royals have traded Ryan Buchter and Brandon Moss to the Athletics for Jesse Hahn and Heath Fillmyer.  The A’s are getting a much needed left-handed reliever, and the Royals gain a little budget and roster flexibility with Moss gone. The 34-year-old Moss, who batted .207 with 22 homers last season, goes from the starting first baseman in Kansas City to backup outfielder/first baseman/designated hitter in Oakland. While Moss was probably only valuable in 20-team or AL-only leagues, he has no value now. It’s tough to…

Fantasy EPL: Round 24 Review / Round 25 Preview

Before I start with last round’s review, let me just recap the main transfer news. After much speculation, the Alexis Sanchez for Henrikh Mkhitaryan swap has finally been completed, bringing both players back to fantasy relevancy. After Theo Walcott’s arrival, Aaron Lennon’s services were no longer needed in Everton, so he was shipped off to Burnley for an undisclosed fee. Brighton, in a bid to avoid relegation, invested in its biggest purchase in history by bringing PSV Eindhoven’s 24-year-old striker Jurgen Locadia. They…

Flash Forward: Gary Sanchez

The Flash Forward series takes a long-term look at a new young player each week, projecting the type of player they'll be five years from now.  Superstar catchers are hard to come by as far as fantasy baseball is concerned. There really isn’t a catcher, not named Buster Posey, who has been a consistent fantasy stud year in and year out. Five years down the line, there’s a good chance we’ll be thinking of Gary Sanchez the same way we think of Posey. Sanchez already has a season and a half under his belt, and I expect a lot…

Fantasy Basketball Fast Break (Week of 1/29): Down Goes Cousins

Boogie Cousins Done for Season Well, this one hurts. Both physically for DeMarcus Cousins and for tens of thousands of fantasy owners around the world. Cousins was putting up a top-10 fantasy season with averages of 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 steals, 1.6 blocks, and 2.2 3-pointers. Yeah, this one certainly hurts. The cause for Cousins' season-ending is a torn Achilles suffered Friday night. https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/957106960184340480 And the season of injuries continues. Outside of maybe…

2018 Player Profile: Dexter Fowler

With the 2017 season now officially in the rearview mirror, and with the Houston Astros first-time champions, we turn our attention to the 2018 fantasy baseball season. Each week, I will be evaluating one player’s stock for next year. This week, a veteran outfielder who somewhat quietly put up a strong offensive season in the first year of a five-year contract in 2017. Dexter Fowler, St. Louis Cardinals 2017 statistics: .264/.363/.488, 18 HR, 68 R, 64 RBI, 7 SB General Overview Without a signature skill (beyond a…

Course Correction: Avisail Garcia

This Course Correction series is based on the premise that the player I'm writing about did something rather anomalous in 2017. He overperformed, underperformed, or otherwise stood out to me in some regard. You might say that someone who led all qualified hitters in BABIP would qualify for such an examination. You might be right. In fact, if you asked me to name someone off the top of my head who would produce much different numbers in 2018 compared to 2017, this would be the name that escaped my mouth. That name is Avisail…
