2018 Player Profile: Carlos Carrasco

With the 2017 season now officially in the rearview mirror, and with the Houston Astros first-time champions, we turn our attention to the 2018 fantasy baseball season. Each week, I will be evaluating one player’s stock for next year. This week, a starting pitcher whose reputation has never quite lived up to his track record of stuff and results. Carlos Carrasco, Cleveland Indians 2017 statistics: 32 GS, 200 IP, 18 wins, 3.29 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 226 Ks, 3.10 FIP General Overview Among qualified starting pitchers over the…

Welington Castillo Inks Deal with White Sox

Welington Castillo has signed with the Chicago White Sox after playing for the Baltimore Orioles last season. As for his overall fantasy value, it should remain relatively constant. He goes from one hitter-friendly park to another hitter-friendly park. While the White Sox will not be as good offensively as the Orioles, Castillo will likely hit higher in the lineup than he did in Baltimore, where he usually slotted seventh or eighth in the batting order. With the catcher position in the tank, a projection of 15 home runs and…

Fantasy EPL: Week 14 Review / Week 15 Preview

WEEK 14: Fantasy EPL REVIEW Salah has been the story of the season so far. Looking at what he and De Bruyne are doing, one has to wonder: What was Chelsea thinking?! That's a different discussion for a different article. Now, let's see what happened in the previous round and what to anticipate in the next one. You can see it wasn’t a regular round of play just by looking at the highest scorers among goalkeepers below. Everton is the leader because of its 4-0 victory over West Ham, in which Rooney went back in time with a…

Fantasy Football: Week 13 Quarterback Matchup Report

It probably happened a few weeks too late, but the New York Giants are finally moving on from longtime starting QB, Eli Manning. Coach Ben McAdoo confirmed that Manning will not start Sunday and that the Giants will be going in a different direction. So that means they’re going with Davis Webb whom they drafted in the third round last year to see what he can do, right? Nope. The starting QB for the G-Men this week will be Geno Freaking Smith. Good luck, Giants fans. In other news, Aaron Rodgers was seen throwing deep…

Potential Closers Traded: Boxberger and Johnson

Two trades happened mid-day Thursday, with the Angels and Diamondbacks picking up potential closers. First, Tampa Bay traded reliever Brad Boxberger to Arizona for pitching prospect Curtis Taylor. Taylor looks to have a decent chance of succeeding but is still in Low-A ball. He’s fantasy irrelevant for this season. Boxberger (463 ADP) looks like he’ll move immediately into Arizona’s closer mix, competing with Archie Bradley. Boxberger held down Tampa’s closer role in 2015, collecting 41 saves. After dealing with…

Fantasy Football: Week 13 Rankings

As we head into Week 13, Michael Crabtree is the only notable player missing from the wide receiver ranks. Of course, we can't look past the Eli Manning exclusion -- oh, and the fact that 10% of people have jumped all over Jimmy Garoppolo (bold!). There are some big movers this week, as well. Doug Martin comes dangerously close to falling outside the Top 50 as he works his way back from a concussion, and Zay Jones jumps back into relevancy after his 12.3-point effort. Here are your rankings ahead of Week 13: Quarterback…

Fantasy Football: Week 13 Running Back Matchup Report

New Orleans Saints’ rookie running back Alvin Kamara finished as the weekly RB1 once again in Week 12, despite touching the ball just 11 times. We are running out of superlatives to try to describe the dynamic young phenom. Kamara has carried fantasy teams down the stretch much in the same manner that Kareem Hunt did early in the season. Unfortunately for Hunt owners, his tremendous start feels like it was years ago. Hunt’s fantasy stock has dropped precipitously as the season has gone on, and he bottomed out in a prime…

Fantasy Football: Week 13 Tight End Matchup Report

Rob Gronkowski used his second 20-plus fantasy point performance of 2017 in Week 12 to vault him back into the overall TE1 spot on the year. Gronkowski is battling Travis Kelce and Zach Ertz for that distinction. It should be quite a battle down the stretch. On the other side of the Week 12 spectrum was Vernon Davis. Davis had a pristine Thanksgiving Day matchup against the New York Giants. We’ve touched on it plenty of times in this space, but the Giants have been the most fruitful matchup in the entire NFL in 2017. Davis…

2018 First-Year Player Draft Rankings: Part 1 (1-5)

Although it's still early in the 2018 offseason, it's never too early to get started analyzing next year's draft. For those of us that play in dynasty leagues, this means that not only do we likely have a supplemental draft, but also a first-year player or rookie draft. This kind of draft is always my personal favorite, as it can really make or break your team's future. As always, you need to consider your team's standings, rules, and minor league proficiency when determining your draft picks. So if you're loaded on…
