Fantasy Football: Week 5 Wide Receiver Matchup Report

We’re back with our wide receiver matchups this week after a solid week. This week, we once again revisit a few familiar names and secondaries. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on Twitter @JonSauber. Favorable Matchups Randall Cobb @ Dallas Cowboys This game should be a shootout thanks to two really bad secondaries. Randall Cobb has seen 25 targets in three games this year. That number would’ve been higher if the Packers threw the ball more than 26 times last week. This week, it’s far less likely that…

Weekly Prospect Update: Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks are fresh off a huge win in the NL Wild Card Game against the Colorado Rockies. While the D-Backs have their eyes set on a championship, their Minor League affiliates have wrapped up their seasons. For many of the D-Backs top 10 prospects, 2017 was a huge step in the right direction. Here's how they fared this past season. 10. Socrates Brito, OF Age: 25 Signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2010 - ARI 2017 stats: (Triple-A Reno): 78 games, .291/.336/.449, 5 HR, 44 RBI, 43 R, 6 SB, 22…

Fantasy Football: Week 5 Quarterback Matchup Report

Just like that, we’re already a quarter of the way through the NFL season. All in all, it’s been a pretty wacky start to the season, too, especially in the quarterback department. Entering week 5, the top four scoring QBs are Tom Brady, Alex Smith, Russell Wilson, and Aaron Rodgers. Now it’s time to play a game of which of these doesn’t belong. That’s right, it’s Alex Smith. It’s funny what can happen when you finally give a guy some semi-decent weapons to work with. Outside of Hurricane Irma forcing two Week 1 byes, this…

Fantasy EPL: Five Players on the Rise

The World Cup qualifiers are back. Therefore, I'll take this opportunity to look at some players whose fantasy values have risen since the season began. Fabian Delph (Manchester City) - Delph has been an outcast in City’s team for so long that many have wondered why is he still playing for them. A promising career going to waste. Now, Pep has found a way to use the utility player. Although Danilo was expected to take over Mendy’s left back spot in the lineup, Delph is the one who has shined in the role both times. Since…

Fantasy Football: Week 5 Running Back Matchup Report

Week 5 is the first of the NFL season to incorporate scheduled byes, and could not come at a worse time for many fantasy owners who were dealt significant injury blows to their running backs in Week 4. Vikings’ running back Dalvin Cook tore his ACL and is out for the season, ending what started out as a spectacular rookie year. Chris Carson suffered a fractured leg and high ankle sprain and was placed on injured reserve. (True story - I dropped Cam Newton and picked up Carson last week. Sigh.) Ty Montgomery barely played in…

NHL Prospect Report: Tampa Bay Lightning

Tampa Bay Lightning Hello, it is time again to look at each NHL team’s prospect situation and assessing each prospect’s projected fantasy value. Today, we'll be taking a look at the Tampa Bay Lightning. With all due respect to turnover leagues, I will be focusing solely on keeper and dynasty leagues, because prospects have minimal value in re-draft leagues. Most fantasy leagues vary in structure, so for the purpose of this exercise, I will be referring to leagues that include a main roster and a prospect roster, each with…

Fantasy Football: Week 5 Rankings

Prepare yourself for the bye week. The Falcons, Broncos, Saints, and Redskins are off this week, and with a quarter of the season already done, this is where potential playoff berths become reality. With four of the NFL's top offenses resting, you'll likely be missing a key player or two. The waiver wire is your pal, but so are this week's rankings. There's plenty of favorable match ups to go around (Vikings/Bears, Jets/Browns, anyone?) and with a few more injuries on the board, expect plenty of upsets. Here's everthing you…

Fantasy Basketball Rankings: Guards

Fall is here, and that means the NBA season is right around the corner. In any fantasy sport, the draft is the most important part of building a winning team. If you're not prepared, you're going to be scrambling for the next five months to try to fix your team and make the playoffs. In today's NBA, guards are running wild like they never have before. Three-pointers are at an all-time high, and that seems to be said each passing season. Grabbing a couple of elite guards isn't just recommended, it's a viable part of…

Fantasy Hockey: Five Players to Watch

At the start of every season, some rookies are given nine games to prove themselves at the NHL level. If a rookie goes over the 10-game limit, the team burns a year on their entry-level contract. Usually, teams wait as long as they can to make sure rookies are ready, and it also helps out their cap situation. Last season, Zach Werenski, Dylan Strome and Jesse Puuljuarvi all had a nine-game tryout. Puuljujarvi and Strome didn’t work out, but Werenski did and earned a Calder nomination. Nico Hischier, Nolan Patrick, Clayton…

Fantasy Football: Week 5 Tight End Matchup Report

Here is a complete list of tight ends who caught touchdown passes in Week 4: Tyler Kroft (two), Travis Kelce, Cameron Brate, A.J. Derby, O.J. Howard, James Hanna, Hunter Henry, Rhett Ellison, and Luke Willson. Not exactly a who’s who of tight ends, is it? Tight ends are more touchdown dependent than any other position in fantasy football. Ellison finished as a TE1 despite finishing tied for 44th among tight ends in yardage. Only Willson failed to finish as a TE1 after scoring a touchdown in Week 4. No one can predict who…
