Pitching Streamers to Target in Week 14 of Fantasy Baseball

Most leagues have 10 weeks or fewer until the fantasy playoffs begin, and as the season continues, each week becomes more important to win. One key is finding pitching streamers that you can count on, which you can find below.

Here are my favorite streamers for week 14.

Pitching Streamers Available in Some Leagues (Over 30% Rostered)

Gavin Stone (SP – LAD)

Next Start: Wednesday 6/26 at CWS

Gavin Stone has pitched extremely well this season, improving in many areas, which has led to sustained success. He has a great matchup against the White Sox that should see him continue to put up excellent numbers.

For someone who had high strikeout numbers in the minors, it has not quite worked out the same in the majors so far. Despite that, Stone has improved his strikeout rate over last season, though it sits at just 7.0 K/9. He has a ridiculous changeup that has induced a 34% whiff rate and a slider with a 41% whiff rate. Here is a look at his ridiculous changeup:

The White Sox have struck out the ninth most against righty pitchers, while also possessing the worst AVG against them too. This plays perfectly into Stone’s hands.

Stone has room for regression with his home run rate, but he can likely avoid it in this matchup. Chicago has the fifth-fewest home runs in the majors.

Stone has wins in eight of his last 12 starts, seven of which were quality starts. He has a chance to earn both in this matchup, and he should be one of the top pitching streamers you consider this week.

Widely Available Pitching Streamers (0%-30% Rostered)

Reese Olson (SP – DET)

Next Start: Sunday 6/23 vs CWS and Friday 6/28 at LAA

Reese Olson had three clunkers in a row, giving up 17 earned runs across 14.2 innings. He came back with a quality start, striking out eight Atlanta batters without allowing a walk or an earned run. Here he is discussing that game:

Olson just dealt with some regression after sporting a sub-two ERA through the end of May. Now that he has gotten that out of the way, you can jump back on the Olson train for this matchup.

Olson’s 51% groundball rate ranks sixth among qualified starters, and while the White Sox do not hit many grounders, the Angels do. They have the sixth highest GB% in baseball. Olson induces a high groundball rate thanks to three pitches with single-digit launch angles. His slider and changeup, in particular, stand out. They have 40% and 44% whiff rates respectively, with his slider also possessing a 23% putaway rate.

As previously mentioned, the White Sox are terrible against RHP. It turns out the Angels are too. They have the eighth-worst AVG and the sixth-most strikeouts against righties.

Both matchups are worth rostering Olson, so make him one of your pitching streamers for the week wherever he is available.

James Paxton (SP – LAD)

Next Start: Monday 6/24 at CWS

James Paxton has clearly been on a pitch count this season – he has yet to toss 100 pitches in a game. Despite that, he has six quality starts and a 7-1 record on the season. Facing the White Sox could lead to another quality start and win for the veteran.

Paxton has not put up the strikeout numbers he did in earlier seasons but has still found success. This matchup could be a chance to, not only improve his K/9, but also his BB/9 rate. While Chicago has been awful against righties, they have also performed poorly against LHP. They have the sixth-worst AVG and the fifth-fewest walks against them.

Paxton should lean on his knuckle curve in this matchup, which has a .211 batting average against and a 34% whiff rate.

It is easy to pick on the White Sox at this point in the season, and this matchup is no different. Paxton should be on your radar as you look for pitching streamers for the upcoming week.

Zack Littell (SP – TB)

Next Start: Tuesday 6/25 vs SEA

Zack Littell had an awful outing against Atlanta, followed by a better game against Minnesota. This matchup against Seattle should get him back in the win column.

Littell has an 8.4 K/9 rate on the season, an improvement from last year. He also has an impressive 1.6 BB/9 rate. Seattle is the perfect opponent for Littell. They possess the league’s worst strikeout rate overall and the most strikeouts overall. They also struggle mightily against RHP, possessing the third-worst AVG and the second-most strikeouts against them.

Seattle is one of the top home run hitting teams in baseball, but Littell has a league-average HR/FB rate already, and Tampa’s stadium is one of the most pitcher-friendly.

Trust Littell in this matchup and make him one of your pitching streamers for the upcoming week.

Jameson Taiilon (SP – ChC)

Next Start: Thursday 6/27 at SF

Jameson Taillon has had back-to-back quality starts and should have a shot at another one against the Giants.

San Francisco has the ninth-worst run differential in baseball and ranks in the bottom half of the league in home runs. Taillon has been excellent at limiting homers, and this game will be played in San Francisco, which is one of the most pitcher-friendly in the league.

Taillon does not strike out many batters – his K/9 rate sits at just 6.3 – but his curveball and sweeper have induced 20% and 25% whiff rates respectively, and his cutter has a 25% putaway rate. Here is a look at his curveball:

Taillon clearly has stuff to get batters out without needing to strike them out. That will be important as the Giants avoid grounders and strikeouts fairly well.

This is a solid matchup for Taillon and one you should consider as you look for pitching streamers for the week.
