ROS Top 200 Fantasy Hockey Rankings for 2022-23

We’re just about at the NHL All-Star break. Many of the league’s best players will be getting together, while others rest up and heal from injuries. This point of the season is a good indication of which players are at the top of their game, which players are underperforming, and how players will do for the rest of the season. These ROS fantasy hockey rankings are here to guide you the rest of the way.

At the Top

Connor McDavid remains on top as usual, with his 92 points – 16 more than second place. David Pastrnak jumps up to the second spot. While Leon Draisaitl is second in points with 76, Pastrnak’s 38 goals and league-leading 243 shots put him ahead for fantasy hockey rankings. Nathan MacKinnon and Alex Ovechkin round out the top five. There’s some movement around the top 10, but no new names were able to jump up that high.

Erik Karlsson is the top defenseman, just missing the top 10. His 66 points in 51 games is 11 more points than the next closest blue-liner Rasmus Dahlin. Cale Makar has the capability to have the strongest finish, but Karlsson is the safer bet to remain the top defenseman. Dougie Hamilton has jumped up the defense rankings, putting him in the company with the other elite defenders, Josh Morrissey, Adam Fox, Victor Hedman, and Roman Josi.

Linus Ullmark is the top goaltender, with his incredible 25-4-1 record and his 1.90 GAA and .936 save percentage. He simply hasn’t regressed, and while Jeremy Swayman will get a decent amount of starts too, Ullmark is the top goalie to roster when he’s playing. Connor Hellebuyck is right there behind him, with Hellebuyck being the best volume starter the rest of the season. Ilya Sorokin, Jake Oettinger, Andrei Vasilevskiy, and Igor Shesterkin being the next group of goaltending talent.

Trade Impact

We saw the first blockbuster trade go down recently. Bo Horvat is a member of the New York Islanders, while Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty, and a protected 2023 1st round pick went back to the Vancouver Canucks. Horvat was one of, if not the biggest name on the block. He has 31 goals and 54 points in 41 games this season. His 31 goals are the 8th most in the league.

What does this mean for fantasy hockey rankings? Well, the Canucks just lost a key piece to their attack, especially on the power play as Horvat had 11 goals on the man advantage. J.T. Miller will likely slot back to center. Beauvillier could wind up on his wing. Beauvillier has 20 points through 49 games, and could see his production increase with the new opportunity. Many of the top Canucks could lose some value as they won’t garner as many power-play points. Brock Boeser may be the beneficiary in this regard as he can have a permanent spot on the top unit going forward.

The Islanders are very deep at center. They add Horvat to a group that already has Mathew Barzal, Brock Nelson, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, and Casey Cizikas. Someone will need to move to the wing. I’m hoping to see Barzal moved to right wing and play on a line with Horvat. Faceoffs aren’t Barzal’s forte, while Horvat is second in the league in faceoff wins. Horvat should help boost the Islanders’ 31st-ranked power play. This bodes well for Barzal, Nelson, Anders Lee, and Noah Dobson (when he returns).
