Saquon Barkley Hits the Shelf and 10 Things I Hate About Fantasy Football

Daniel Jones did something very few people have ever accomplished. He shut up a few million New Yorkers at one time. Jones was a revelation in his first start, outstanding on the road, where most young QB’s fail. Sure it was TB, but impressive nonetheless. Jones led the Giants to their first victory of 2019, but every rose has it’s thorn, and he lost Saquon Barkley in the midst of that win. Yet again, fantasy owners are looking at losing a top 3 RB for an extended period. Last year, Todd Gurley fell victim to injury down the stretch and Le’Veon Bell decided to just not play at all. Now, Saquon Barkley will be out for 4-8 weeks with a high ankle sprain. It’s a shame that Jones will now be without his best weapon this early in his career, and that will affect him in some upcoming matchups without a doubt. That’s just the tip of the iceberg  for my wrath this week.

Here are 10 Things I Hate About Fantasy Football this week!

  1. Packers Head Coach Matt LaFluer: He said last week that Jamal Williams would get equal touches to Aaron Jones. I thought this was just coach speak. I was wrong. Williams actually OUT CARRIED Jones! What is the world coming to? Aaron Jones salvaged his day with 2 TD’s, but this is a troubling trend. Now he’s saying they need to be more aggressive in the passing game…we’ll see if that comes to fruition too.
  2. Chris Carson Has Fumblitis: Look, Chris Carson is still the lead back in Seattle, but if he keeps fumbling, that timeshare can change very quickly as Rashaad Penny gets healthy. As in, as early as Week 4. Fumbles crush football teams and Pete Carroll won’t care about your fantasy team. It’s safe to say Carson is officially on notice. If Penny is available, scoop him up for insurance.
  3. Kirk Cousins is Killing Stefon Diggs: It’s great that the Vikings have landed on a formula that’s working for them. They’re running hard with Dalvin Cook and even Alexander Mattison is getting fed. The trouble is, Kirk Cousins is getting fewer attempts in this offense and he’s not exactly making the most of them. Adam Thielen has been able to grab some TDs, but Stefon Diggs is dying a slow death on rosters everywhere. The bad news, it doesn’t look like it’s going to get any better, anytime soon.
  4. O.J. Howard Is Still Not Happening: Based on talent, every expert with their salt agreed. O.J. Howard had massive upside this year. What we didn’t count on was Bruce Arians not caring at all about that potential. What should have been a breakout game against the Giants (who struggle mightily against TE’s), was just a 9 point PPR effort. I’d like to say buy low, but I don’t think the targets are coming anytime soon.
  5. T.Y. Hilton’s Quad: Quad injuries can be tricky. Just when my Colts-“Remember The Titans” mojo was in full swing, now Jacoby Brissett has one less weapon. A very important weapon. Hilton stretches the field and now that he’s out for a bit, that means the tight ends and secondary wide receivers need to step up. I’m not sure if that’s going to work. Maybe they get by Week 4 against Oakland, but after that, this could be a problem.
  6. David Montgomery Looks Good, BUT just 1 TD?: The Bears threw down at the goal line Monday night and if Montgomery could have added a TD to his 11 point PPR night we’re having a warm, fuzzy feeling about Montgomery. Instead our bellies are empty of TDs in Week 3, and my rage is real! Buy low on Montgomery. He’s been very efficient and his workload should increases as the season rolls into October.
  7. Josh Jacobs Had Just 10 Carries: What!? Are you kidding me Jon Gruden? 10?  I know you were down two touchdowns at the half, but the run game is the only hope the Raiders have to stay competitive. If they abandon it, there will be a lot more blowouts to come and a lot of angry Josh Jacobs owners like me! I’d say he’ll learn his lesson, but I’m not optimistic.
  8. Jimmy Garoppolo Is a Turnover Machine: I know it’s a feel good story and all that; the 49ers are 3-0 after a lost season in 2018, but this may be the weakest 3-0 of them all. The 49ers are turning the ball over at an alarming rate. Garoppolo has 4 INT in 3 games. That’s going to rear it’s ugly head eventually, and limit the fantasy impact of his weapons. You can’t score if you turn over the football. Consider yourself warned.
  9. Baker Mayfield: Full disclosure, I was NOT in the camp of analysts overpaying for Baker Mayfield. However, he was still a QB1 no matter what your take was on his upside, and frankly, he’s played like number two so far in 2019. It’s hurting his receivers, it’s hurting his coach and torturing the fan base. I do think he’ll play better, but for those who overpaid, this has been an ugly month.
  10. The Patriots Defense Didn’t Get the Shutout They Deserved: The Pats haven’t given up a TD to an opposing offense since the AFC Championship Game. Let that sink in for a moment. Yet, a muffed punt and a late pick-six ended up netting the Jets 14 points and ruining what should have been another shutout! DAMN YOU MISSED BONUS POINTS! DAMN YOU!!!
