Major Dodgers-Braves Trade Contains Almost No Fantasy Implications

The Braves have traded Matt Kemp to the Dodgers for Adrian Gonzalez, Scott Kazmir, Brandon McCarthy, and Charlie Culberson. In the big scheme, this move happened so the Dodgers could get under the salary cap. For fantasy purposes, most of the players involved are barely fantasy relevant unless we’ve been time-warped back to 2011. The Braves feel so highly about Gonzalez (581 ADP), who posted a .242 batting average with three homers in 252 PAs in 2017, they're already planning to release him. With Gonzalez out of the…

2018 Early MLB ADP: Bargains and Busts

What if I told you there was a third baseman with more home runs than Kris Bryant, more RBI than Josh Donaldson, more runs than Manny Machado, and a better batting average than Nolan Arenado in their last 750 plate appearances? Oh, yeah, and he was still being drafted in the 18th round? It’s true, baseball season is still months away, but we have enough draft data to give us a glimpse into what 2018 drafts could look like … and it's … well … a little weird. So let’s do it. LET’S GET WEIRD. Here are a few of my picks for…

Potential Closers Traded: Boxberger and Johnson

Two trades happened mid-day Thursday, with the Angels and Diamondbacks picking up potential closers. First, Tampa Bay traded reliever Brad Boxberger to Arizona for pitching prospect Curtis Taylor. Taylor looks to have a decent chance of succeeding but is still in Low-A ball. He’s fantasy irrelevant for this season. Boxberger (463 ADP) looks like he’ll move immediately into Arizona’s closer mix, competing with Archie Bradley. Boxberger held down Tampa’s closer role in 2015, collecting 41 saves. After dealing with…

2018 Player Profile: Ozzie Albies

With the 2017 regular season now officially in the rearview mirror, we turn our attention to the 2018 fantasy baseball season. Each week, I will be evaluating one player’s stock for next year. We’ll begin with one of the major’s youngest players, a Braves rookie entering his age-21 season coming off of a fantastic 250 plate appearance debut. Ozzie Albies, Atlanta Braves 2017 statistics: .286/.354/.456, 6 home runs, 8 stolen bases Albies was a consensus top prospect entering the season, ranking 11th overall for Baseball…

MiLB Players Watch-List: NL East

In part 5 of my MiLB watch-list, I’ll take a look at the NL East. MiLB Players Watch-List: NL Central MiLB Players Watch-List: NL West MiLB Players Watch-List: AL Central  MiLB Players Watch-List: AL West MiLB Players Watch-List: AL East NL EAST Atlanta Braves Before I start I just have to say that the Braves farm system is loaded with young pitching. Their future on that front is very very bright. 1. Ozhaino ‘Ozzie’ Albies SS/2B And after saying that, of course, I’ll start with a hitter. It’s…
