Struggling Players Drafted in the Top 50

Every year we encounter the inevitable reshuffling of the top X list in fantasy baseball. Depending on how intricate you want to get, “X” can really range as high or low as you want and you’ll still get a hefty juggling of names. Even if I wanted to talk about the new top 10 players, I could easily do so after just a quarter of the season. It’s volatile, hard to predict, and most importantly fun to look at for crazies like myself. Today I want to look at players who were drafted in the top 50 (per Fantrax ADP, found here)…

Prospect Watch: Call-Up Catch-Up

We are entering that part of the season where a slew of players are being called up due to injury or ineffectiveness. The thing is, we’ve already pretty much blown through the top prospects, so now we're on to the lesser known guys — the deep guys who don’t get discussed quite as frequently so maybe you’ve never heard their name or what to expect from them. Today we’re going to take a look at some of these guys and get a good idea of what kind of performance to expect from these rookies and whether or not a top prospect or…

Fire & Ice: Panning Goldschmidt

Fire - Odubel Herrera There were two very different sides to Odubel Herrera's 2017 season. On one hand, you've got Odubel the performer, bat-flipping like a madman. He will bat flip a walk. Some people love it, some people hate it, and in the interest of self-preservation I'll keep my stance to myself. In any case, there is also Odubel the fantasy asset, whom we are here to discuss. Herrera as a fantasy player is quite the opposite of his on the field persona. He is — dare I say — bland. Sure, there was his breakout 2016…

Fire & Ice: Carlos Santana Isn’t So Smooth

Fire - Jose Peraza There was recently a changing of the guard in Cincinnati. Manager Bryan Price was let go in late April after a disastrous 3-15 start to the season, replaced on an interim basis by bench coach Jim Riggleman. It turns out, this may have been good news for Jose Peraza. Peraza had been struggling while typically floating down around the bottom of the order when Price was around, but Riggleman seems convinced that #2 slot is where Peraza deserves to be. Since taking over, Riggleman has batted Peraza either…

Fire & Ice: A DJ For Your Bar Mitzvah

Here we are for another week, and it's party time! The ugly weather is behind us, so bah gawd let's play some baseball!Don't suck down too much RonDiaz and get all short-sample happy on your roster, though, my friends. That's almost as bad as taking your pants off on a boat during spring break. Don't act like you haven't done it.It's important during these early weeks to exercise patience with your roster. For instance, Hanley Ramirez is on pace for a 30/30 season, just as he predicted during spring training. Will he…
