Fire and Ice: What Wood You Do?

It's been one heck of a fun second week of baseball. Everyone is on the DL, multiple games have seen benches-clearing brawls, and Shohei Ohtani looks like he might actually stand a chance to be the phenom he was billed as. Ok, so there are varying degrees of "fun" there, but hey! Life isn't just slurping down ice cream and raisins under a palm tree. Which denotes true fun, of course. You know what melts ice cream? If you answered "a spicy Dominican sunset," well, you're weird. Correct, but weird. It's fire, you silly goose!…

2018 Dudes and Don’ts: Shortstop

Boy, is there ever a lot of young blood at the top of the shortstop position this year. The top four are all 24 or younger (Trea Turner, Carlos Correa, Francisco Lindor, Corey Seager). According to Fantrax ADP, the only shortstop inside the top 20 that is older than 30 is Zack Cozart. It's a young man's position, which makes it easier to dream on the upside of these young guys than to worry about the downside. 2018 Player Profile: Corey Seager

Corey Seager - Superhero or Sidekick? Corey Seager, at 23 years old, has just two professional seasons under his belt and already has more hardware at home than his 30-year-old brother. He was the runaway Rookie of the Year in 2016. He has two All-Star appearances, two Silver Slugger awards, 26 games played in the playoffs, and a collection of MVP votes. His swing is a thing of beauty, and his career triple slash (.305/.374/.502) line is so close to the coveted .300/.400/.500 that I’m sure it keeps opposing pitchers up at…

2018 Player Profile: Chris Taylor

Chris Taylor: Can He Repeat In 2018? If I close my eyes, I can actually envision Jerry Dipoto kicking himself while watching Chris Taylor hit the go-ahead home run in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series. After all, this was only several weeks after his team, the Mariners, had been eliminated from playoff contention, but several years removed from when Dipoto traded Taylor to the Dodgers in exchange for pitching prospect Zach Lee. Like most trades, it’s doubtful that the Dodgers or Dipoto had the foresight to…
