Course Correction: Ketel Marte

This series is typically based on the premise of a player performance "correcting" positively or negatively. In this case, however, we're hoping the correction is actually more of the same. Which is not really a correction at all, I realize, but whatever. This is my space to write! Stop judging me! Ketel Marte showed us some very intriguing developments last year, and he's officially got sleeper appeal.Marte has had fantasy owners, particularly in dynasty leagues, salivating for years. As far back as 2015, he hit .314 and…

Mets Sign Jason Vargas to Shore Up Rotation

The Mets have added Jason Vargas on a two-year deal with a possible third option year. The Mets needed to make this move with injury issues up and down their starting staff. The 35-year-old lefty was a fantasy bargain last season when he stumbled to 18 wins despite only a 4.16 ERA and 6.7 K/9. He’s a flyball pitcher, which can lead to an above average number of home runs (1.1 HR/9 on career) but a low BABIP (.284). The lower-than-normal BABIP, which was helped the past few seasons by the Royals' plus outfield defense, has…

Eduardo Nunez Inks Deal With Red Sox

In a much-needed move, the Boston Red Sox have re-signed free-agent swiss army knife, Eduardo Nunez. The deal is for one year with an option for 2019 but is pending a physical, which isn't a sure bet give how his 2017 season ended. Nunez was limited to only 32 at-bats in September due to a sprained PCL and was carted off the field in game 1 of the ALDS against the Houston Astros after re-injuring the knee.https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/964285440441413633Assuming he passes the physical, this is a great move for…

Blue Jays Fill Rotation by Signing Jaime Garcia

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed Jaime Garcia to a one-year deal. The Blue Jays were entering the season with four solid starters at the top of the rotation, so Garcia fills in the last spot.Historically, the 30-year-old lefty has been an above-average pitcher … when healthy. From 2012 and 2015, he never threw over 130 innings in a season. The last couple of years, he’s mainly stayed off the DL, throwing 170 and 157 innings in 2016 and 2017, respectively. I think the Jays will be ecstatic if they get 140 innings from him…

Orioles Sign Andrew Cashner to Get Shelled

The Orioles added some much-needed pitching depth on Thursday by signing Andrew Cashner to a two-year deal. While the deal makes perfect sense in the real baseball world, the move just about kills Cashner’s fantasy value. The 31-year-old righty didn’t allow many runs last season and posted a 3.40 ERA. The problem is that his peripheral stats pointed to something much worse, as his ERA estimators were near 5.00. Of the 60 pitchers who threw at least 160 innings last year, his 4.6 K/9 ranked 59th (Ty Blach at 4.0 K/9).…
