Since the last update to the 2023 FYPD rankings right before the MLB draft we have seen drafted prospects skyrocket up levels of the minor leagues and even make the major leagues. The off-season is upon us and that means drafts are happening for dynasty managers across all platforms. In this article, I will give you my top targets in this year’s FYPD and rank out the top 200 prospects for you to take into the draft season.
So I have to admit it is difficult for me to add Yamamoto, Lee, and Imanga coming over in free agency to draft rankings. Most of the leagues that I have played in observe these guys as “Free Agents” and will put them in that part of the off-season. Regardless some leagues do have these players available to be drafted and should be added to get an “acceptable” range to draft.
Top 10
Wyatt Langford, OF TEX
(44 GP, .360/.480/.677, 10 HR, 30 RBI, 12 SB)
Of the “Big Three,” Wyatt Langford stood out as the top performer post-draft rising through four levels to finish the year in Triple-A Round Rock. Langford has plus power potential with excellent bat-to-ball skills that he was known for while at the University of Florida. The majority of Langford’s games were played at High-A Hickory where I was able to see several of his games in person. Langford was patient at the plate and waited for his pitch to hit while pairing the high contact skills with big plus power.
💣💪Florida OF Wyatt Langford has had an incredible season slashing 400/.535/.813 with 61 R, 14 HR, 37 RBI and 5 SB in only 45 GP! I can see Langford being the steal of the draft! @GatorsBB @langford_wyatt @FloridaGators https://t.co/YP8wLcG1b8

In 24 games played in Hickory Langford slashed .333/.453/.644 with 15 extra base hits (five home runs), 15 RBI, and seven stolen bases. For me, Langford and Yamamoto are interchangeable in leagues that have international free agents available. This could be a major contributor to the Texas Rangers early in 2024 making him a priority for me in dynasty leagues.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, RHP N/A
(24 G, 171 IP, 176 K, 1.16 ERA, .860 WHIP)
The crown jewel coming over from Japan this off-season is Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The soon-to-be 25-year-old right-hander is coming off a solid season where he appeared in 24 games for Orix. In 171 innings pitched Yamamoto struck out 176 batters maintaining a solid 9.3 K/9 and walked just 1.5 batters per nine innings. Yamamoto profiles as a front-of-the-rotation starter based on what he was able to do in Japan with the floor of an SP 3. Multiple teams are currently interested in Yamamoto so his value could push the first overall spot so for me this is a 1A and 1B scenario based on your team’s needs.
Dylan Crews, OF WSH
(35 GP, .292/.377/.467, 5 HR, 29 RBI, 4 SB)
Throughout the 2023 college baseball season, the two names anyone could talk about were the LSU teammates Dylan Crews and Paul Skenes. Up until draft day it was asked who would go first and in the end it was Paul Skenes to the Pirates but for dynasty baseball purposes, many were leaning toward Crews. Once drafted by the Nationals, Crews impressed in the Florida Coast league then up in Low-A Fredricksburg where he slashed .355/.423/.645 with five home runs in 14 games played.
🥵📈 Dylan Crews comes in hot in the National’s Top 30 at number 1. With a .426/.567/.713 slash with 18 HR and 100 runs scored with the LSU Tigers. Nats fans have a lot to be excited for! #Natitude @__dc4__ @Nats_PlayerDev @Nationals @LSUbaseball https://t.co/9BnzTDzdJo

What has slid Crews down and propelled Langford has been Crews’ performance once he was promoted to Double-A Harrisburg. In 20 games played Crews slashed just .208/.318/.278 with five RBI, and three stolen bases in six attempts. For me, Crews is going to be a solid player in the majors and should get called to the show in 2024 though the dynasty upside seems higher with Langford long term.
Paul Skenes, RHP PIT
(5 GS, 6.2 IP, 10 K, 5.40 ERA, 1.050 WHIP)
One of the best arms to enter the draft since Steven Strasburg back in 2009 was the dominant right-hander from LSU Paul Skenes. In 19 starts with the Champion Tigers Skenes struck out 209 batters in just 122.2 innings pitched finishing with a 1.69 ERA. The LSU Tigers allowed Skenes to pitch more than most scouts and MLB owners would prefer throughout the stretch to the College World Series. Once selected first overall by the Pirates it seemed unclear if he would be shut down for the remainder of the season but he did pitch to mixed results. Regardless of the numbers produced once in a Pirates uniform, the upside is massive for Skenes who profiles as SP 1 long term.
⛽️🔥RHP Paul Skenes has been fun to watch this season as he has proven to be every bit the “once in a decade” talent. 152 Ks in 79.2 IP with a 1.69 ERA and 0.753 WHIP in 13 starts. I wonder if the Pirates will pass on Skenes.. 🤔 @LSUbaseball @Paul_Skenes @Fantrax https://t.co/4gKY3XpYTT

Walker Jenkins, OF MIN
(26 GP, .362/.417/.571, 3 HR, 22 RBI, 6 SB)
One of the top high school players in this year’s draft is Walker Jenkins the 6’3” outfielder with massive raw power who could be a steal in this year’s FYPD. The Twins moved Jenkins from rookie ball to Low-A Fort Myers after just 14 games played. Once in Fort Myers Jenkins slashed .392/.446/.608 with one home run, 10 RBI, and two stolen bases in 12 games played. In the small sample size of 56 plate appearances, Jenkins had a 7.1% walk percentage and struck out only 10.7% of the time. Long term this looks to be a big power bat that has solid plate discipline and could be a big asset to dynasty managers.

Got beef with Rick’s 2024 FYPD rankings? Let him hear it in the comments below.
Just curious on your ranking formula. I see guys way up your list that aren’t even on BA’s or MLB’s Top 100 prospects. Are you considering different things for fantasy value as opposed to real life value?
How would you incorporate value from the international free agent class? My league uses the previous years International signing class (for instance, Salas was available in our FYPD this year in December when we held it. )
