We made it! The 2024 NFL season is finally upon us in all its glory. It is time for the paralysis by analysis to end and the actual games to begin. Week 1 is just the first step on the long road to a fantasy football championship. What better way to kick things off than with my Week 1 Flex rankings?
The first week of the season is quite often filled with surprises. Our perceptions of players and their roles can change with one big play. The same can be said for teams, coaching schemes, and positional matchups in fantasy football. Because of that, I usually prefer to start my studs in Week 1. They are also generally healthier now than they will be once the wear and tear of an NFL season takes hold.
Before I get to the rankings themselves, a couple of notes for the uninitiated. My Flex rankings are based on Half-PPR scoring. If your league uses different scoring settings, you may need to adjust certain players. Last season, Gus Edwards was the overall RB20 in Half-PPR total scoring. He was RB14 in Standard scoring and RB25 in PPR formats. Adam Thielen was the overall WR30 in Standard, WR25 in Half-PPR, and WR17 in PPR. Most players will not have such a wide spread between their rankings in various formats. However, it is something that fantasy managers should keep in mind when setting weekly lineups.
Though most fantasy-relevant players enter Week 1 relatively healthy, things can change quickly in the NFL. As such, these rankings will certainly change throughout the week.
