Week 2 NFL DFS: Money Makers and Heart Breakers

Welcome to Week 2 of Money Makers and Heart Breakers for the 2024 NFL season! Each week, I’ll break down the top NFL DFS picks for the Sunday main slate—highlighting players who can fill your pockets and those who might leave you disappointed.

Week 2 is always tricky, as the sample size right now is only what happened in Week 1. But that’s the excitement! Let’s dive right into this week’s picks and see who’s poised to shine or break hearts in your DFS lineup.

Here is a brief definition of each of my terms for anyone that might be new:

💰 Money Maker – This player will perform better than expectations

💔 Heart Breaker – This player will perform lower than expectations

Week 2 NFL DFS:💰 Money Makers

Quarterbacks

Matthew Stafford

In Week 1 Stafford passed the ball 49 times for 317 yards and 1 touchdown. The Rams play the Cardinals in Week 2. The Cardinals gave up the most fantasy points in Week 1 to a quarterback and Josh Allen smashed this Cardinals for 271 total yards and 4 touchdowns. I know the Rams lost Puka Nacua for at least a few games but this team can pass the ball and will a lot in in this game.

Baker Mayfield

In Week 1 Mayfield got to play the Commanders and they stink. He was the butcher, the Baker, and the candlestick maker in this one. 24 completions, 289 yards and 4 touchdowns. In Weel 2 the Buccaneers travel to Detroit to play the Lions in the Dome. This is the highest over/under on the main slate at 51.5 points. Start your Buccaneers and your Lions in Week 2. Start all of that with Mayfield.

Anthony Richardson

Richardson looked really good in Week 1. He passed for 212 yards and 2 touchdowns and then ran the ball for 56 more yards and another touchdown. In Week 2 the Colts play the Packers. Jalen Hurts threw for 278 yards and 2 touchdowns in Week 1 against this Packers team. Richardson is going to pass, Richardson is going to run, Richardson is going to score touchdowns in Week 2.

Running Backs

Jonathan Taylor

As stated, the Colts play the Packers in Week 2. The Packers gave up a monster game to Saquon Barkley in Week 1. Barkley had 132 total yards and 3 touchdowns. Taylor is an incredible running back in his own right and will break out with some big numbers in Week 2 against this same Packers defense.

J.K. Dobbins

Dobbins had just about a 50/50 timeshare with Gus Edwards in Week 1. J.K. touched the ball 13 times and Edwards 12 times. The Chargers play the Panthers in Week 2. The Panthers are horrible against the run. The Saints ran all over them in Week 1. There should be plenty of run to go around for Dobbins and Gus Bus. Its just more likely that Dobbins could break a big one.

James Conner

Prior to Week 1 Conner was declared the featured running back for the Cardinals. He went out and had 83 total yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against a tough Bills defense. In Week 2 he gets to play against the Chargers. I look for Conner to be involved in the passing game, he was third on the team in targets Week 1. Conner will also be the primary ball carrier. The volume will be here somewhere between 18 and 25 total touches.

Wide Receivers

Mike Evans

Mike Evans had 20% of the target share in Week 1. That was 6 targets for 5 receptions 61 yards and 2 touchdowns. He is the primary redzone target for the Buccaneers. Baker Mayfield said “if they put Mike in single coverage I am just throwing it there, its like cheating”. The Bucs play the Lions in Week 2. The Rams Wide Receivers shredded the Lions defense in Week 1 totaling 27 receptions, 266 yards, and 1 touchdown. Play Evans again in Week 2.

NOTE: Throw Chris Godwin in there too as he had 8 targets in Week 1, Yay Double Stack!

$8,000 on FanDuel

Jayden Reed

You know what sucks? Jordan Love getting hurt sucks, especially for the Packers offense. You know what doesn’t suck? Jayden Reed and his usage both catching the ball and running the ball. If Love is out for Week 2, which is likely, I would expect Reed and Josh Jacobs to both run the ball even more. The Packer will utilize their Swiss army knife of a player putting him in space and allowing him to make things happen. He will find a way to produce in Week 2.

$6,000 on DraftKings
$5,800 on FanDuel

Cooper Kupp

Let us all take a step back and just look at the incredible target volume Kupp had in Week 1. His target share was 42.8% we can just round that up to 43. Kupp saw 21 targets. With Puka Nacua on the shelf in Week 2 you can expect this same amount of massive target volume from Kupp against the Cardinals. This is the second highest over under on the main slate with a total of 49. I wonder what Kupp and Stafford will be talking about at breakfast.

Tight Ends

Trey McBride

I have mentioned some Cardinals and Rams players already as that game will be high-scoring. McBride led the Cardinals in targets in Week 1. He had 9 targets. That was a 29% target share. Expect him to be the focus of the passing attack against the Rams in Week 2 as well. McBride is a volume play in a shoot-out.

$6,200 on FanDuel

Brock Bowers

As a team, the Raiders looked abysmal in Week 1. Bowers on the other hand had a pretty good game. 8 targets, 6 receptions, and 58 yards for the rookie to open up the season. In Week 2 the Raiders will play the Ravens. The Ravens gave up 6 receptions and 71 yards to tight ends in Week 1. Take the low price point and the volume and roll out Bowers.

$4,400 on DraftKings
$5,300 on FanDuel

Taysom Hill

Taysom will get some more runs in Week 2 against the Cowboys. The Saints blew out the Panthers in Week 1. The game script changed in the second half. In Week 2 The Saints play the Cowboys. This will be a much better game. Foster Moreau who played most of the snaps at tight end in Week 1 is in concussion protocol. Hill and Juwan Johnson will both be good DFS plays for Week 2.

DEF

Jets

The Jets get to play the Titans in Week 2. This is the same Titans team that the Bears scored 24 fantasy points against in Week 1. The Titans offense looked like a comedy of errors as the Bears defense scored not one but 2 touchdowns in Week 1. The first off a blocked punt and the second off an interception. Expect the Jets defense to have a very good time against a very bad offense in Week 2.

$3,800 on DraftKings
$5,000 on FanDuel

Patriots

The Patriots defense is simply very good. This is a team that looks like it came out of the 1960’s. They play great defense and want to run the ball on offense. In Week 2 the Patriots play the Seahawks. The Seahawks gave up 2 sacks, 2 safeties, an interception, and a fumble recovery in Week 1 to the Broncos defense. The Patriots defense will make some things happen in Week 2.

$2,800 on DraftKings
$3,400 on FanDuel

Chargers

The Panthers offense is trying very hard to be just as pathetic as the Titans offense. You can expect the Chargers to get some sacks and interceptions in this game. They are good at it and the Panthers cough up the ball. I am charged up about this play.

Week 2 NFL DFS:💔Heart Breakers

Quarter Backs

Aaron Rodgers

It will be easier for Rodgers in Week 2, but he looks really old. If you want to play him in season, long go right ahead, I understand. For DFS purposes just avoid this. The potential for a total flop is here in Week 2.

Geno Smith

I like Geno and love his story. Someone needs to make a movie about the guy. What I don’t like about Geno in Week 2 is that he’s up against against the Patriots defense. This Seattle team also looks like it wants to run the ball a lot. Geno only had 25 pass attempts in a close game against the Broncos in Week 1. I do not think we will see the volume in Week 2 as well.

Bo Nix

In Week 1 Bo Nix passed the ball 42 times, he had 26 completions for 138 yards. Whatever we thought of him in the preseason doesn’t matter now. He stunk up the place. In Week 2 he will play a Steelers defense that isn’t bad. I wouldn’t trust him to throw the ball into the ocean right now. Put a Nix on placing Bo in your lineup.

Running Backs

Ezekiel Elliott

I have Elliott here mostly because he is splitting time with Rico Dowdle. Zeke had 51% of the snap share. He isn’t getting a ton of carries now. He had 10 in week 1. With only 12 total touches Elliott is very touchdown dependent. I do have season-long line-ups I am playing Zeke in, but DFS is a no, no.

D’Andre Swift

I am not a Swift guy; I never have been. This is another case of will the volume be there for him to give you numbers. I don’t think it will be. Swift also only had 10 carries in Week 1. The Bears need to get their offense in gear for Swift to be a viable player. If anything, I see Chicago throwing the ball more in Week 2 against the Texans.

Javonte Williams

The touches should be there for Williams. The question is, will there be enough for production? Williams had 52% of the snap share at running back for the Broncos which is good. He only had 9 touches, which is bad. No thank you unless I have to play him in Week 2, it like there is a Steel Curtain or something in his way.

Wide Receivers

Courtland Sutton

Sutton saw 12 targets from Bo Nix in Week 1. That was a 28.5% target share. Exactly what we want to see. That was the good news. The bad news is that he only caught 4 of those passes for 38 yards. Until Nix proves he can put the ball in Sutton’s hands I am sitting him.

DK Metcalf

DK got Surtained in Week 1. In Week 2 it doesn’t get easier for him with Christian Gonzales on the docket. Seattle has the luxury of being able to pass the ball to other wide receivers and avoid the top end cornerbacks if they want to. Geno is no dummy and will do that. Have no fear though Metcalf will get it all together after this.

Joshua Palmer/Ladd McConkey

McConkey was actually pretty good in Week 1. The reason I am avoiding them here is this Chargers offense wants to run the ball. The Chargers play the Carolina Panthers in Week 2. The Panthers just let you run the ball. When an offense that wants to run the ball meets a defense that lets you run the ball. You run the football.

Tight Ends

Cole Kmet

Kmet played behind Gerald Everett in Week 1. Kmet had 1 reception for 4 yards in Week 1. Sometimes I pick an easy one. This is the easiest one I could pick this week. I would not play Gerald Everett as well. You must be so desperate in order to play either guy that you wake up in the morning roll over and say, “Oh my god, I had way too much to drink last night didn’t I”. This is a Late Slate avoid.

Jake Ferguson

Even if he is healthy, I am out on Ferguson in Week 2. Rumor is he is not in any pain right now. Don’t risk it if it appears he will be available. Just all-out avoid in Week 2.

NOTE: Overall Tight Ends were pretty bad in Week 1. Choose wisely from the Money Makers, just about everyone else will break your heart in Week 2.
