Khalil Herbert was DFS player of the week and I wish that Boston College was on the DFS radar this week so I can play Raheem Blackshear. Unfortunately, Rutger and Boston College aren’t on DFS radars this week, but there are plenty of excellent additions for cheap this week. These are a few guys in time slots that come at a cheap price that I’m liking this week given their draft capital and upside.

QB, Kyle Trask, Florida
Price: $8,000
Florida lost quarterback Feleipe Franks last week against Kentucky but didn’t lose the game to the Wildcats behind the arm and legs of Kyle Trask. Trask is a guy that I’ve thought deserved a shot for a while now and through some not so great circumstances earns his opportunity. The Gators take on Tennessee this week, a team that has given up 67 combined points to BYU and Georgia State this season. Expect Trask to hit these talented receivers all game long in a blowout win over the Vols.
RB, Roschon Johnson, Texas
Price: $7,300
Texas’ offense has very much revolved around the passing game all season long and, on the ground, a lot of people know about Keontay Ingram. But Roschon Johnson, the converted quarterback, has stepped in and gotten solid carries in significant games. This week the former-quarterback is taking on Oklahoma State and all options outside of Collin Johnson are expected to contribute in a big shootout against the Pokes.
RB, Sewo Olonilua, TCU
Price: $8,600
Both TCU backs have higher prices this week but Sewo Olonilua comes in at around average player price. Olonilua took off for over 100 yards on 18 carries last week against Purdue and face off against an SMU team that allowed 127 yards and three scores to North Texas’ Tre Siggers two weeks ago. The team may be looking to switch to Max Duggan this week so expect the backs to do more of the running than they would if Alex Delton were manning the ship.
WR, Henry Ruggs III, Alabama
Price: $9,100
Alabama takes on Southern Mississippi this week in what should easily be a blowout for the tide. In these types of games, there is always a player outside of the bigger name that scores big and I’m really buying into Henry Ruggs III this weekend. Expect a long bomb from Tua or a jet sweep that Ruggs takes to the house while all the Jerry Jeudy owners explode in anger.
WR, Jake Smith, Texas
Price: $6,600
Jake Smith came onto the scene strong last week in the absence of Collin Johnson and caught 11 passes for 100+ yards and two scores against Rice. Although Texas faces a tougher test this week in Oklahoma State, It’s clear that the coaches want to incorporate the talented freshman into the gameplan with three scores in two weeks. I expect Smith to see some action in Big 12 action.
Saturday, September 21, 2019 – 3:30 P.M.
QB, Shane Buechele, SMU
Price: $7,300
SMU has looked incredible in all facets on offense and that includes the passing game. Shane Buechele has 871 passing yards in three games and will have to find the endzone plenty against a TCU team who excels on the ground. Expect a big day from Buechele and wide receiver Reggie Roberson as the offense tries to mask a weak rushing defense.
RB, Khalil Herbert, Kansas
Price: $8,300
I expected Herbert to disappear when Pooka Williams came back but it’s almost as if he’s trying to prove to the world that he’s better overall. Herbert has come on strong in Kansas’ previous two outings and should have another week against a really not-so-great West Virginia team. Herbert has gotten a touchdown in his previous two games and his carries have increased in both. Sign me up.
RB, Tyler Badie, Missouri
Price: $7,800
I expect South Carolina and Missouri to combine for 70+ point this week with the quarterback talent and okay defensive play I’ve seen in recent weeks. In shootouts, there’s always one player that breaks explosive plays and this week I believe is Tyler Badie’s week. Badie has received double-digit carries and 3 or more receptions in his previous two games. Expect Badie to see significant yards through the air and decent numbers on the ground.
WR, Tre Nixon, UCF
Price: $7,800
Central Florida’s offense has looked incredible no matter who is playing quarterback and now it appears that Dillon Gabriel is the sure-fire guy for the Golden Knights and he really loves throwing to Gabriel Davis and Tre Nixon. Nixon is averaging close to 20 points a game and he comes at a really reasonable price. Expect a big game against Pitt as the Knights try to reach the CFP with convincing Power Five wins.
Saturday, September 21, 2019 – 7:00 P.M.
QB, Patrick O’Brien, Colorado State
Price: $7,300
The Rams lost starting quarterback Collin Hill to a third ACL tear on a somewhat questionable hit against Arkansas. With Hill done for the season, Patrick O’Brien is expected to take over and I like him a lot in this system. O’Brien has a great arm and not only had Dante Wright and Warren Jackson to throw to, but adds Auburn-transfer Nate Craig-Myers to the mix. Expect O’Brien to have four touchdown passes in a shootout against Jason Candle and the Toledo Rockets.
RB, Lyn-J Dixon, Clemson
Price: $8,300
Everyone knows that Travis Etienne is a stud but how about Lyn-J Dixon this season. He’s done really well when he comes in and actually has multiple touchdowns despite being the No. 2 in Clemson. The Tigers take on the Charlotte 49ers this week and Lyn-J should see some action early as Clemson pulls the first string guys off early to avoid injury.
WR, Nate Craig-Myers, Colorado State
Price: $5,700
Colorado State has plenty going on in the passing game this season but they are only getting better this week with the addition of Nate Craig-Myers. Nate transferred over from Auburn and had to sit out the first three weeks of the season. Many CFF Expects thought he may beat out Warren Jackson as the guy and even if he isn’t that this season he’s still going to come out strong in this matchup. He’s super cheap and has a very high ceiling.
Draft Kings
Friday, September 20, 2019
QB, Tyler Huntley, Utah
Price: $7,200
I am fully aware that Huntley is the highest priced quarterback for Friday night but given the lack of talent at the position, he’s a must-own. Huntley is a dual-threat that averages around 18-19 Fpts per game. Kedon Slovis will undoubtedly struggle against Utah’s defense, Donald Hammond is hard to trust given the system, and Hank Bachmeier isn’t trust-worthy against Air Force’s clock control. He’s a bit pricey but some prices have to be paid.
WR, Michael Pittman Jr., USC
Price: $5,600
Michael Pittman Jr. was essentially forgotten about in week one but has steadily made his way back to the top of the pecking order for USC’s new Air Raid attack. Although Pittman won’t see Tyler Vaughns volume, his targets and yards have increased every week since the beginning of the season. Amon Ra St. Brown is questionable going into the matchup against Utah this week and that opens the door for Pittman to make a splash in a big spot against Utah.
WR, Adrian Hardy, LA Tech
Price: $6,000
Louisiana Tech has been a difficult team to evaluate for most of the season and that continues to be the case this weekend. The Friday night slate doesn’t leave much room for safe bets and you’ll likely have to take a chance on at least one LA Tech player. Adrian Hardy is the most explosive of the three LA Tech Receivers and gives the best chance of a big play against FIU. I will also mention that Kaylan Wiggins is a must-play if James Morgan is out again this week.
Saturday, September 21, 2019 – Noon
QB, Ryan Hillinski, USC
Price: $6,300
I’ve been on Hillinski’s side since he arrived at South Carolina and even mentioned that he might steal the job away from Jake Bentley in a pod earlier in the year. Last week he was efficient and avoided turnovers against Alabama’s talented defense and this week he takes on Missouri in a game that I believe will go over 70 total points. Expect big games from Hillinski and Kelly Bryant in the battle of the Columbia schools this weekend.
QB, James Blackman, Florida State
Price: $6,500
It’s hard to believe it, but James Blackman is averaging 281 yards and 3 scores through the air per game. the Seminoles offense has looked excellent and their matchup against a much improved Louisville has all the implications of a shootout. Watch Blackman tear apart the Cardinals struggling defense as you watch the money pour into your pockets.
RB, Rico Dowdle, South Carolina
Price: $5,300
It’s difficult to pinpoint what South Carolina wants to do on the ground and with whom but Rico Dowdle has been out carrying Tavien Feaster in most contests this season despite what I had initially thought would happen. Missouri looked awful against the run several weeks ago against Wyoming and Rico Dowdle has had some levels of explosiveness. Dowdle is a cheaper option at running back that could make up for your pricy buying of Zack Moss.
RB, Javian Hawkins, Louisville
Price: $4,400
Javian Hawkins came on strong against Notre Dame in week one and has been productive since then. He leads the Cardinals in carries and rushing yards and goes up against a Florida State defense that couldn’t stop any opposing running back if they tried. Hawkins is in for another big week and will likely see a bump in goalline touches if Malik Cunningham is relieving the injured Jawon Pass.
WR, Darrell Stewart, Michigan State
Price: $6,300
I can’t believe that Darrell Stewart is this cheap. The senior receiver is one of the nation’s leaders in receptions with 25 and that’s completely due to Brian Lewerke’s love for him. The Spartans take on the Northwestern Wildcats who haven’t given much to be desired so far this year. Expect another big week from Stewart as the Spartans demolish the Wildcats.
Saturday, September 21, 2019 – 3:30 P.M.
QB, Ryan Hillinski, South Carolina
Price: $6,300
(See Earlier Mention)
QB, James Blackman, Florida State
Price: $6,500
(See Earlier Mention)
RB, Javian Hawkins, Louisville
Price: $4,400
(See Earlier Mention)
RB, Isaiah Spiller, Texas A&M
Price: $5,000
Draft Kings appears to believe that Isaiah Spiller won’t contribute much to the Aggie offense this week despite being the top dog for Texas A&M. Auburn’s defense isn’t the easiest to run against but the Aggies have always had great success running the ball in Jimbo Fisher’s offensive system. If you need a cheap back with some upside then Spiller is your guy.
WR, Tre Nixon, UCF
Price: $5,700
(See Earlier Entry)
Saturday, September 21, 2019 – 7:00 P.M.
QB, Nick Starkel, Arkansas
Price: $5,900
Arkansas hung 55-points on an FBS school last weekend and that gives me some resemblance of hope for the Razorbacks moving forward. The switch from Ben Hicks to Nick Starkel paid off well against Colorado State and Starkel is in for another big week against San Jose State who is a bottom team from the Mountain West. I will also mention that Rakeem Boyd is a must-start this week given his usage from this season.
QB, Carson Strong, Nevada
Price: $5,700
Carson Strong didn’t look hot last week against Weber State but anyone who is throwing 40 plus passes a game is a guy to take a look at. Strong is benefitting from an excellent receiving corps that may, unfortunately, lose Romeo Doubs once again this weekend. UTEP has a lackluster defense that has nothing to offer against the strong Wolfpack passing attack.
RB, Rakeem Boyd, Arkansas
Price: $7,400
I mentioned earlier that Boyd is a must-start against San Jose State and that is largely in part due to the deceiving running backs in that time slot. Chuba Hubbard is the best back available at 7:00 but guys like D’Andre Swift and Keontay Ingram just aren’t trustworthy given the carry splits they boast. Boyd is the unquestioned No. 2 back in this time slot and must be in most lineups this week or suffer the consequences.
*** Maurice Washington of Nebraska is Questionable against Illinois
WR, JD Spielman, Nebraska
Price: $5,600
Draft Kings never seems to be high on JD Spielman. Spielman has the best quarterback in the big ten and is averaging 20+ yards per reception this team and faces lesser competition in Illinois. Expect Spielman to contribute big for the Huskers who are looking to take home their side of the Big Ten this season.
