Picks of the Week:
Tennessee Titans @ New York Jets
Pick: Tennessee Titans
This has all of the makings of a monster Derrick Henry game. A.J.Brown (Out) and Julio Jones (Questionable) are both banged up and that leaves the Titans with Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Chester Rodgers, and Josh Reynolds as their remaining receiving options. But the Jets have been downright awful this year, I expect the Titans to go up early on and run the ball plenty of times. This Titans team is going to be difficult to predict going forward, so a matchup against one of the worst teams in football is where someone in a survival pool would want to use them up.
Houston Texans @ Buffalo Bills
Pick: Buffalo Bills
Not trying to jinx anything, but the Texans have virtually no shot of winning this game. Davis Mills is simply not going to cut it against this Bills defense, and I expect Josh Allen to light it up in this one. They are a massive -1600 betting favorite at home in Week 4. The biggest problem with using the Bills in Week 4 would be wanting to save one of the best teams in football for deeper into the season. While I completely understand and respect this mentality, this is one where you do not even really have to think about it, and sometimes the best move is to take the near-guaranteed win and move on to the next.
Detroit Lions @ Chicago Bears
Pick: Detroit Lions
I am going to preface this by saying this is a massive gamble. I am in no way saying that the Lions are a safe and easy pick in Week 4. But what I am saying, is that they have a real shot, and some of the best moves you can make in a survival pool are to use up lesser teams earlier on, and save the juggernauts for later in the season. The Lions have played three excellent teams in 2021 in the 49ers, Packers, and Ravens, and while they are 0-3, they should have beaten the Ravens, and the other two games, they looked respectable the whole way. Even as I am writing this, I am second-guessing this pick, but for those that are feeling lucky this week, these Lions could be a lottery ticket in both survival pool, and betting this week.
Matchup to Avoid:
Arizona Cardinals @ Los Angeles Rams
While one could argue that the Rams are the best team in football after beating the Bucs on their way to a 3-0 start, this Cardinals team is no joke. The matchup is going to be interesting because of the Kyler mobility factor, which is an entirely different game plan than prepping for an immobile QB like Tom Brady. In my eyes, this game is going to be a shootout, and much closer than people may anticipate. If DeAndre Hopkins is out this week, the Rams will have a huge advantage, but this is a matchup to steer clear from because from an objective standpoint, it makes no sense to burn these teams now in this tough matchup.
