Welcome to the Week 5 Fantasy Football FAAB Guide. Every week I provide you with detailed coverage of all the NFL players you might be targeting. Most importantly, I guide you on how much to spend on each player for your fantasy football squad. You will find obvious player opinions like Tyreek Hill is still legit, but I will also give you useful, less-heralded takes like Daniel Jones is a top 12 QB. If you need Waiver Wire adds only, check out my pal Colin McTamany’s article here.

Week 5 Fantasy Football FAAB Guide
$1,000 is a common budget size for season-long leagues and that is the template for my FAAB bid percentages. The Week 5 Fantasy Football FAAB Guide attempts to cover all styles of fantasy scoring, but I write this article from a redraft and PPR point of view. All roster percentages for this week come from Fantrax and Yahoo fantasy football leagues.
Yeah, we know football is in full swing. That doesn’t mean you can’t jump into fantasy hoops? From joining a public league with our Fantasy Basketball Commissioner to trying one of our Classic Draft Contests, there are plenty of ways to play Fantasy Basketball on Fantrax!
QB ADDS
PLAYER | FANTRAX ROSTER % | YAHOO ROSTER % | BID RANGE | MATCHUP |
---|---|---|---|---|
Daniel Jones | 74% | 31% | 8-11% | @DAL |
Taylor Heinicke | 43% | 10% | 7-10% | NO |
Justin Fields | 84% | 41% | 3-5% | @LV |
Trey Lance | 81% | 31% | 3-5% | @ARI |
Trevor Lawrence | 64% | 28% | 3-5% | TEN |
Zach Wilson | 60% | 9% | 2-4% | @ATL |
Mac Jones | 64% | 17% | 1-3% | @HOU |
Reference Points
- Daniel Jones was missing several key players to throw to Sunday at New Orleans, but it didn’t impact him at all. When you include his running ability in his fantasy profile, there is little doubt that he can help you. He is facing a brutal schedule in the weeks ahead though.
- The calf injury to Jimmy Garoppolo is the latest buzzkill in his medical history. There are rumors he will play Sunday. This alone tells me that Shanahan isn’t confident yet in Trey Lance. Take away the easiest 76-yard TD pass ever to Deebo Samuel and Lance didn’t do much.
- The rookie QB’s on this list are all long-shot, deep-league plays. However, with byes starting soon you should consider Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields because they can make plays with their feet (yes I know Fields hasn’t run much yet).

Malcolm Brown | 40% | 6% | 4-7% | @TB |
Brandon Bolden | 10% | 2% | 4-7% | @HOU |
Ty Montgomery | 3% | 0% | 2-4% | @WAS |
Reference Points
- UPDATE: David Montgomery will be out for a minimum of 3 games. That means it’s time to pump up the numbers on Damien Williams as his replacement. I would say 15-20% of your FAAB budget at least. Go get him and if it doesn’t work out, take a flier on Khalil Herbert
- The Jets use several backs in their offense, but that doesn’t matter. Michael Carter had the most snaps in Week 4 and he scored. Pick him up!
- Alex Collins scored a TD against the 49ers while playing 3 fewer snaps than Chris Carson. Collins was even with Travis Homer in snaps during Seattle’s Week 3 loss, so be careful not to overbid a one-week wonder.
Alex Collins weaves his way to the end zone! @Seahawks lead 28-13.

- With Ty’Son Williams being a healthy scratch in Denver, Latavius Murray received the workload in the win. Le’Veon Bell suited up and carried the ball a couple times. Right now, Murray is the only somewhat consistent runner in the Ravens backfield.
- Miles Sanders still gets more snaps, but Kenneth Gainwell is producing at a higher rate. I am concerned about Sanders losing playing time. Gainwell might not be a starter every week, but he is worth rostering in 12-team and deeper leagues depending on roster format.

Kendrick Bourne | 31% | 3% | 2% or less | @HOU |
James Washington | 16% | 1% | 2% or less | DEN |
Reference Points
- I put Laviska Shenault Jr. on this list just in case he was available. With D.J. Chark breaking his ankle, Shenault’s value explodes not only for his ability to play more but also because the Jaguars will be trailing a lot. They will be passing more. Hopefully to Shenault.
- The Cardinals are 4-0. A.J. Green is a key player in that effort. He has been on the field for no less than 79% of the snaps in all 4 games.
- The Chiefs threw the ball well Sunday. Josh Gordon may join the fray Sunday night against Buffalo. Take the risk on the upside if you can.
- To know me is to know that I love Van Jefferson. He’s always on the field and the Rams’ offense provides a lot of opportunities for scoring.
- The Giants were impressive Sunday and Kadarius Toney played a role in that effort. He has 10 catches for 92 yards in his limited duty so far. His YAC is 74. Toney makes plays after he catches the ball. Pick this rookie up!

- It was a fun 2 TD Sunday for Randall Cobb against the Steelers. However, don’t get too excited as MVS was out with a bad hammy. Go easy.
- Kalif Raymond scored 2 TD grabs on Sunday in Chicago. He is getting more targets recently too, so take a flier on him and see if it continues.

Blake Jarwin | 36% | 9% | 2-4% | NYG |
Mo Alie-Cox | 16% | 1% | 2% or less | @BAL |
Reference Points
- How in the hell did the Bills lose to Pittsburgh Week 1?! Dawson Knox has taken a firm grip on the red zone opportunities for Josh Allen. Knox is a must-start TE in all formats now. He has followed a similar growth path in Buffalo to Allen and it’s clear they have a connection.
- The Cowboys are so prolific offensively that starting Dalton Schultz or Blake Jarwin seems to be worth it right now. Schultz gets more targets, but week to week paying a cheaper price for Jarwin might not matter much.
- Tee Higgins was out last Thursday in the win over the Jaguars. C.J. Uzomah benefitted with 2 TD catches. He had 6 targets in that game. With his injury problems in the past, he’s especially risky if Higgins returns. He is averaging 14.8 yards per catch. Get him cheap if you can.

— Auburn Football (@AuburnFootball) October 1, 2021
- Don’t be that guy who chases Mo Alie-Cox for further performances like he had on Sunday. Unless we’re in a league together.
- There are only 12 TE’s who have scored (PPR) at least 40 fantasy points this year. So if you didn’t draft Travis Kelce, Darren Waller or T.J. Hockenson you’re probably rotating a match-up dependent TE every week. That’s too bad. It’s a miserable existence and you deserve better.
The Leftovers
- Week 4 still leaves us with more questions to ponder. Will Alvin Kamara score a rushing TD or catch another ball this season? Will Dalvin Cook’s ankle be a problem all season long? When will the Steelers finally bench sad Big Ben in order to unlock the power of their offense? The mysteries of this season will continue to baffle us. All you can do is trust in your process while sampling the advice of others like me.
- These players are all fringe producers who are worth mentioning but are not worth going into too much detail about. Khalil Herbert had 3 carries in garbage time against the Lie-Downs and with David Montgomery OUT for Sunday he might be the smarter, cheaper play over Damien Williams. Maybe. I have an inkling Taysom Hill will take over the starting QB job soon. Zach Wilson is better than you think he’s been and he has found a rapport with Keelan Cole Sr. James Proche II played 9 fewer snaps than fellow WR teammate Devin Duvernay and outperformed him in Denver. Juwan Johnson has been losing snaps to Adam Trautman and his TD snag on Sunday is a fluke that you should ignore.
