Week 7 Fantasy Football FAAB Guide

Welcome to the Week 7 Fantasy Football FAAB Guide. I apologize for being a day behind. I just got back from Arizona where I mingled and rambled with the finest people in the fantasy baseball industry at First Pitch Arizona, which is built around the increasingly popular prospects party known as the Arizona Fall League. Now though, fantasy football has my complete attention until the Ravens win it all in February. Every week I provide you with detailed coverage of all the NFL players you might be targeting. More importantly, I guide you on how much to spend on each player for your fantasy football squad. You will find obvious player opinions such as Zach Ertz will flourish as an Arizona Cardinal, but I will also give you useful, less-heralded takes like Ricky Seals-Jones is a top 10 fantasy TE ROS. If you need Waiver Wire adds only, check out my Fantrax pal Colin McTamany’s Waiver Wire Rankings here

What!? Your league isn’t hosted on Fantrax!? Once you see how Fantrax stacks up to the competition, we think you’ll be singing a different tune next season.

Week 7 Fantasy Football FAAB Guide

$1,000 is a common budget size for season-long leagues and that is the template for my FAAB bid percentages. The Week 7 Fantasy Football FAAB Guide attempts to cover all styles of fantasy scoring, but I write this article from a redraft and PPR point of view. All roster percentages for this week come from Fantrax and ESPN fantasy football leagues.

  • Yes, yes there are 6 byes this week. We’ve heard. For the QB position though, there are options like Tua Tagovailola that can be of service to your team in Week 7. In fact, Tua has Buffalo next week so use him this week to fill in for your bye QB and then dump him for Week 8.
  • I hesitated to put Derek Carr and Matt Ryan on the list this week as their rostership is almost too high, but with the six byes, I wanted to give you all enough options to fill your needs. I like Ryan going forward as he has become more comfortable each week in Arthur Smith’s offense while Derek Carr will be fine without Jon Gruden’s presence with his 341 yards and 2 TD outing against Denver being all you need to know.

  • 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo will likely be in the saddle against the Colts Sunday. The Colts can be exploited through the air as they have allowed the 6th most fantasy points to quarterbacks. His injuries are hell, but I continue to believe that he is an underrated player.
  • I lost a 5-team parlay in Week 4 because Daniel Jones became vintage John Elway in the 4th quarter and OT in a 11-point comeback over the Saints. That dynamite effort down on the Bayou caused me to misread how viable Jones was as a fantasy QB. Since that game Jones has been knocked out with a concussion, hasn’t thrown a TD and has 3 INT. We know who he is, but fantasy football requires a short memory.

  • Right now Khalil Herbert is worth your FAAB bucks. He had a TD and 97 yards rushing against Green Bay that SHOULD have included a beautiful 16-yard TD run that was called back after a bogus holding call (find the replay online and you will see for yourself). Right now he is the man. Don’t worry about the tough schedule ahead and the lurking Tarik CohenDamien Williams, or David Montgomery.
  • Seattle’s RB situation requires that you make some difficult choices. Alex Collins is a dude. That means he’s legit. With Chris Carson and Russell Wilson on IR, Collins has loads of value. However, he might be in jeopardy of not playing Sunday against the Saints with injury concerns. That may tempt you to reduce your spending on Collins and apply it possibly to DeeJay Dallas or Rashaad Penny. Gimme Dallas.
  • The Browns are in injury hell right now without Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. This is good news for D’Ernest Johnson. He will likely start Thursday at home against the Broncos. It’s likely a one-week audition though as Chubb should be back in Week 8. So don’t spend too much.
  • There is a chance preseason magnet for fantasy debate Antonio Gibson might miss Sunday’s game at Green Bay. J.D. McKissic is the clear number two who will benefit. He’s catching balls even when Gibson plays. I advise 7-10% of your budget, but I personally would not do it unless it was PPR. Jaret Patterson is a rookie out of Buffalo that was a legend there. I would go cheap on him instead if Gibson is out Sunday.
  • Chris Evans (not Captain America) is extremely talented. I have my University of Michigan bias sure, but Evans has always been an explosive RB with game-breaking ability. Evans had challenges at Michigan that probably led to him being a 6th round pick in the 2021 draft. His capability is much greater than that and I am advising you to put money into him. Especially in PPR formats.

Reference Points

  • IT DOES NOT MATTER WHO IS HEALTHY FOR THE GIANTS AT WR. Sterling Shepard will always perform. Don’t ever question it.
  • Mooney Mania is coming to a fantasy team near you! Darnell Mooney has the trust of youngster Justin Fields which is verified by Mooney having at least five targets in each of the last three games. This Chicago connection will only get more in tune as the season progresses.
  • I’m sure this is getting annoying, but two former Michigan Wolverines are worth your FAAB bucks. Donovan Peoples-Jones finally gave those who have been patient some fantasy production to salivate over. Sure, one of his key plays was a halftime hail-mary grab, but catching two balls for TD’s will always play. Nico Collins is the other Wolverine to know. He came back from temporary IR to provide 4 catches for 44 yards on 6 targets. Houston stinks. They know it, we know it. That means garbage time fantasy points will be available to those of you who roster Nico Collins. He is a 6’4″ 215-pound athlete oozing with red zone value. He will play more and you will benefit.

  • The Cardinals WR rotation continues to provide a lot of opportunities for fantasy goodies. The beneficiary of those though are where the trouble starts. A.J. Green and Christian Kirk have value to your team. You can’t blow the bank though and expect consistent production. Especially with the arrival of Zach Ertz. Go fish.

  • Including Zach Ertz in the Week 7 Fantasy Football FAAB Guide is a stretch as his rostership is getting too high. He is available in roughly 40% of Yahoo leagues though. That means some of you can pick him up. It’s a no-brainer! Ertz will thrive in that offense. No other data is required.
  • More appropriately, Ricky Seals-Jones fits ideally into this article. He is the man at TE while Logan Thomas is on IR. He was on the field for every offensive snap in the loss to Kansas City Sunday. I am very high on Seals-Jones going forward and I said so before Week 6. Bid on him!
  • The O.J. Howard listing is all contingent on Rob Gronkowski not playing. If he looks to be playing in Week 7 do not engage on Howard.
  • I thought Mo Alie-Cox’s 2 TDs against Miami in Week 4 was a fluke. It still might be, but he is getting looks and catching them in the red zone.

The Leftovers

  • Week 6 still leaves us with more questions to ponder. Will Gardner Minshew take over for Jalen Hurts creating buzzkills for all fantasy managers rostering Hurts? Will Tyler Lockett ever be a consistent fantasy force instead of his current all-or-nothing routine? Will Matthew Stafford throw for 500 yards and 6 TDs against the Lions Sunday? The mysteries of this season will continue to baffle us. All you can do is trust in your process while sampling the advice of others like me.
  • These players are all fringe producers who are worth mentioning but are not worth going into too much detail about. As I mentioned the Lions have little talent on defense which should create a massive expectation for DeSean Jackson and the rest of the Rams offense. I will tell you though that the Lions are actually tenth best when it comes to preventing fantasy points to WR. Go figure. The way Zach Ertz altered his fantasy value by being traded to Arizona can likely also happen to Marlon Mack. The Colts have playoff aspirations, but they can get more value from his roster spot by trading him for a solid pick to a team like Kansas City. Lamar Miller signed to the Saint’s practice squad yesterday. The elder RB is a long way from his 2014 season where he ran for 1099 yards and 8 TDs. Tony Jones has been lost to injury so maybe there’s a small chance in hell that he is a solid backup. I mentioned him earlier, but Jaret Patterson despite not being on this list has value in Week 7 IF Antonio Gibson does not play this weekend. He’s worth a possible one-off if you’re in bye week hell.
