We are officially in the second half of the regular season in most fantasy formats. It is time to make that push towards a playoff spot, and my Week 8 rankings are here to help you do just that.
As I mentioned in my Week 8 Quarterback Sleepers piece, I am all in on Mitchell Trubisky this week. Trubisky has been on fire of late. The second-year pro has finished as a top-five fantasy quarterback in three consecutive games. Up next for Trubisky is a date with the New York Jets. New York ranks in the bottom 10 in the league in passing yards allowed, passing touchdowns allowed, and adjusted sack rate. Trubisky’s outlook is enhanced by his ability to get out of the pocket and make plays with his legs. The Jets have not fared well against running quarterbacks in recent years. I would fire up Trubisky as a top-10 option this week.
The running back position has seen a recent infusion of young talent. That trend is quite evident when looking at my Week 8 rankings. Players like Marlon Mack, Kerryon Johnson, and Nick Chubb are all potential top-10 plays this week and going forward. Mack seems to have taken a firm grip on lead back duties in Indianapolis following his recent return from injury. Johnson has been Detroit’s best offensive weapon of late. The Lions still trust LeGarrette Blount a little too much for my liking, but Johnson’s explosiveness is too great to ignore. The rookie tallied 158 rushing yards last week and is a threat to take it to the house each time he touches the football. Chubb is now the lead dog in Cleveland following last week’s trade of Carlos Hyde. Chubb finished as the RB14 in his first start last week, and that is more or less what we should expect from him for the rest of the season.
The biggest wide receiver news of the week came away from the field, with the trade of Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys. His rest-of-season outlook should get a slight boost, but owners in the short term are likely frustrated at the time. Cooper sat on a bye last week in Oakland and will have to do the same this week in Dallas. On the field, Adam Thielen continues his assault on opposing secondaries. Thielen set an NFL record with his seventh straight 100-yard game to start a season. He now gets arguably the best matchup there is in a home date with the New Orleans Saints. Thielen is a no-brainer as the top wideout this week.
Below are the rest of my Week 8 rankings. As always, there is still plenty to be determined as we get closer to game time. Pay close attention to the injury news as well as any potential deals as we inch closer to the NFL trading deadline.
