It was another solid week for the tight end position. Eleven tight ends finished with at least 10 half-PPR fantasy points, the most so far this season. And while George Kittle‘s four-game touchdown streak ended, Mark Andrews started his own streak, hauling in three scores in his last two games. Looking ahead at the Week 8 tight end rankings, there are a lot of solid plays this week, including a handful of intriguing streamers. Let’s move to the Week 8 rankings and notes to find out which players have favorable matchups this week.
Injury Notes for Week 8
- George Kittle sprained his foot in Week 7 and is considered day-to-day. Kittle is having a fantastic season, and it would be a significant loss for the already-banged-up Niners if he’s unable to suit up. Monitor as the week progresses. UPDATE: Kittle is questionable for Week 8.
- Dallas Goedert did not play in Week 7 due to a hamstring injury. If he’s a no-go in Week 8, Grant Calcaterra will get the nod in a favorable matchup against Cincinnati. UPDATE: Goedert is OUT for Week 8.
- Taysom Hill could return in Week 8. He’s been sidelined with a rib fracture since Week 4. Hill is always a threat to break out each week, but he can’t be relied upon as more than a back-end TE2 with upside. UPDATE: Hill will suit up for Week 8.
- Will Dissly missed practice last week and is looking like a no-go for Sunday’s game against the Saints.
Tight End Notes
- David Njoku is coming off his best game of the season, catching 10-of-14 targets for 76 yards and a touchdown. He should continue to roll in Week 8 against the Ravens. Baltimore has allowed the most receptions and receiving yards to tight ends this season. They’ve also given up the fifth-most fantasy points to the position. Njoku has been a target hog in the last two games. He leads the Browns with a combined 21 looks and a whopping 30% target share in that stretch. The Browns will likely be playing from behind this week, and Njoku should benefit from better quarterback play with Deshaun Watson out for the season. I expect a busy week from Njoku and rank him as TE4 in the Week 8 tight end rankings.
- Cade Otton is coming off his best game of the season. He reeled in eight of 10 targets for 100 yards and finished as TE5 for the week. Otton has seen at least eight targets in three of his last five games, posting a 19.8% target share in that span. The targets should keep coming in Week 8 against Atlanta. While the matchup isn’t the friendliest for tight ends, the game has one of the highest expected point totals on the week (48.5 points). Additionally, the Buccaneers will be without top wideouts Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Baker Mayfield should continue to lean on Otton this week, and he ranks as the TE8 in the Week 8 tight end rankings.
- It’s no secret that Dalton Kincaid has had an underwhelming season. However, he’s been fairly consistent of late. He’s seen at least six targets in each of his past four games while averaging 46 receiving yards in that span. While those aren’t eye-popping numbers, volume and consistency go a long way at the tight end position. Kincaid should continue humming along in Week 8. He has a favorable matchup against a Seattle defense that has surrendered the fourth-most receptions and receiving yards to tight ends this season. They’ve also ceded the eighth-most fantasy points to the position. Kincaid is a back-end TE1 in my Week 8 tight end rankings.
- Sam LaPorta drops outside the top 12 in the Week 8 tight end rankings. He gets one of the toughest matchups of the week against a Tennessee defense ceding the second-fewest fantasy points to the position. The Titans are one of the top units against the pass this season. They’ve allowed only 18 receptions and 177 receiving yards to tight ends through six weeks. That doesn’t bode well, considering LaPorta has all but disappeared in the Lions’ offense this season. He has a combined three targets in his last two games, and his 9.6% target share on the year is not what you want to see. LaPorta is a top-tier TE2 in the Week 8 tight end rankings.
