Week 9 CFF Waiver Wire, Best/Worst Matchups for Week 10, and More!!!

Injuries! Injuries galore! This past week saw Zac Thomas and John Wassink go down before Saturday rolled around and left many fantasy owners (including myself) with some huge holes to fill going into the final weeks of the college fantasy season. Are you looking to replace these injured players? How about finding that last player to help you through the playoffs? Maybe you want to see what the best matchups are this week? Well, I’ve got all the answers and more right here just for you in this week’s CFF Waiver Wire.

Also, be sure to check out the All-Week 9 Team.

CFF Waiver Wire

Quarterbacks

Max Gilliam, QB, UNLV

Ownership: 2%

The loss of Armani Rogers pretty well wrote off most fantasy owners from the UNLV Rebels but I’m here to tell why you shouldn’t write them off just yet. California-transfer Max Gilliam came in the first week and couldn’t quite get things going with this Rebels offense and who could blame him when coaching is having to transition from a guy who barely throws a ball to a pocket passer. Gilliam went in the next three weeks and tossed 10 touchdown passes and even came close the 400-yard mark this week against San Jose State. This week is problematic against a tough Fresno State defense but he follows it up with the subpar secondaries of San Diego State, Hawaii, and Nevada.

Tobias Oliver, Georgia Tech

Ownership: 2%

I may be jumping the gun on Oliver, but he was built to run the triple-option. Now I’m not a man that likes to buy into a triple-option quarterback unless they take the bulk of the carries and Oliver carried the ball 40 times this week against Virginia Tech. The interesting thing about this move by Paul Johnson was the fact that TaQuon Marshall was fully dressed and that Johnson mentioned that he was cleared last week. If I’m the owner of TaQuon Marshall after a 200-plus yard performance from Oliver, I’m picking the Oliver up just in case.

Sean Chambers, Wyoming

Ownership: >1%

So Wyoming’s quarterback play with Tyler Vander Waal wasn’t the best when he was in the game and coach Bohl decided to make the switch to a freshman out of Kerman, California by the name of Sean Chambers. Chambers came in and tossed two touchdown passes against Colorado State but the real catch was his 100-plus yards and a score on the ground. It appears that he’s done enough to keep the job going forward. He’s in for a huge game this week against San Jose State before he takes on Air Force and New Mexico in the following weeks.

Others to Consider

Michael Collins TCU, 4%; Jake Luton Oregon State, 1%; Isaiah Sanders Air Force, 2%

Running Backs

Jason Huntley, New Mexico State

Ownership: 37%

Jason Huntley is a man that I initially had in my preseason top-50 running backs piece but he wasn’t quite living up to the Larry Rose III comparisons that he was drawing. His main issue for most of the season was lack of touches and business has picked up monumentally with double-digit carries in the last two weeks and fourteen receptions over the last three. He hasn’t scored on the ground at all this season, but he’s gotten five receiving touchdowns over the last four weeks.

Isaiah Bowser, Northwestern

Ownership: 7%

The loss of Jeremy Larkin left many with questions. Larkin was a phenomenal player and it is very unfortunate that a kid with that much talent had to give up the game so early on in his career. With Larkin gone, there was a hole in the offense that left Clayton Thorson to pick up almost all of the offense on his shoulders. Luckily for Thorson, Pat Fitzgerald decided to go with the freshman Isaiah Bowser last week and he took 20+ carries for over a hundred yards. This week against Wisconsin, Bowser had his number called 34 times on the ground against Wisconsin and went for over 100 once again with a score. It looks like Bowser is going to be the next fantasy relevant back from Northwestern and he will continue to get his carries in the final weeks of the season.

Others to Consider

Johnny Ford South Florida, 3%; DeAndre Torrey North Texas, 11%; Shannon Brooks Minnesota, 2%

Wide Receivers

Tyleek Collins, UNLV

Ownership: >1%

So, a wide receiver from the University of Nevada Las Vegas went for 41 fantasy points this week. Just take a second to take that in. Tyleek Collins went out this week and caught nine passes and went for 170 yards and scored not three, not five, but four touchdowns against a miserable San Jose State team. This is the second time in a three week period that Collins has gone for more than 100 yards through the air and his receptions have gone up with every week that has gone by. He might not go for 41 again, but he should be in line for a big role in this offense with Gilliam at the helm.

Reggie Roberson Jr. SMU

Ownership: 2%

It was only a matter of time before more than two players emerged as fantasy relevant out of the Sonny Dykes air raid system. Reggie Roberson Jr. has stepped up in the past several weeks with 18 receptions, 350 yards, and three touchdowns over the past three weeks. This week will be especially huge for Roberson against a Houston team that can score a ton but doesn’t make any stops. Snatch up Roberson and play him until Dykes decides to go in a different direction.

Others to Consider

Tee Higgins Clemson, 50%; Michael Pittman Jr. USC, 10%; Nykeim Johnson Syracuse, 5%

Good post. Are you writing this every week? I’ve never seen it before.

    Thanks! Reid

Thanks, my friend! I do this every week and will continue to do so throughout the season. I’m also going to do Bowl pieces for bowl leagues after conference championship week.
