You don’t win your fantasy league with your draft. You win it with how you manage your team through the season. Be the person that adds the right players before the lineups lock on Sunday. Make the early waiver wire addition that everyone else will be clamoring for on Tuesday. This is how you gain an edge, these are the types of moves that ensure you keep winning.
Was that enough hype for you prior to getting into the article? Do I need an actual hype man to build this stuff up for you? I think I could get some to bounce around and say a lot of Oh YEAH! After every group of players below. Let me know if that is the way you want me to head with this.
Week 2 Weekend Waiver Wire
Quarterbacks
Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints
There is nothing sexy about playing Derek Carr. Lots of people dislike him in fantasy circles. He seems to always produce high-end QB2 / low-end QB1 numbers. In Week 1 Carr passed for 200 yards and 3 touchdowns. Used his running backs and tight ends well in what turned into a blowout of the Panthers. If you need QB help I would start here.
Gardiner Minshew, Las Vegas Raiders
Minshew threw the ball 33 times for 25 completions for 257 yards and 1 touchdown in Week 1. He also ran 3 times for a whopping 5 yards. The Raiders have good wide receivers in Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers, a great tight end in Brock Bowers, and apparently will throw the ball often to Alexander Mattison as well. You know what I am saying, Brother! Get onboard with the Madness and the Mania.
Other quarterbacks to consider if you are desperate:
- Sam Darnold – Minnesota Vikings, 24 attempts, 19 completions, 208 yards and 2 touchdowns. I probably should have written more about him.
- Geno Smith – Seattle Seahawks, 18 completions for 171 yards and a touchdown. The schedule gets easier after Week 4

Running Backs
Jaleel Mclaughlin, Denver Broncos
In Week 1 McLaughlin had 15 total touches. That breaks down to 10 carries which he turned into 27 yards rushing; and 5 targets for 5 receptions and 1 yards receiving. Bo Nix appears to be struggling and needs to dump the ball off on short passes. Expect McLaughlin to see more of those short dump-off passes. (Devaughn Vele will as well)
Alexander Mattison, Las Vegas Raider
Mattison led the Raiders in running back snaps with 60% of the offensive snaps. He had 5 carries 19 yards rushing. In the passing game, Alexander Mattison saw 6 targets which he turned into 4 receptions 43 yards and a TD. He really should be rostered in every league.
Other running backs to consider:
- Justice Hill – Baltimore Ravens, 8 Targets, 6 Receptions, 52 yards
- Bucky Irving – Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 9 carries, 62 yards, 2 receptions, 14 yards receiving
Wide Receivers
Demarcus Robinson, Los Angeles Rams
If you haven’t heard yet, Puka Nacua got injured and is out. Robinson saw 7 targets in week 1 which he turned into 4 receptions and 42 yards. He is a known commodity to the Rams offense and produced very well in a secondary role when Cooper Kupp missed time last season. He also played 92% of the snaps in week 1. This is the Rams WR to add.
Greg Dortch, Arizona Cardinals
Dortch played 61% of the snaps in Week 1. He was second on the team in targets with 8. Dortch turned those into 6 receptions and 47 yards which led the Cardinals in receptions and receiving yards in Week 1. Look for him to continue to see a significant target share in the slot for the Cardinals. Kyler Murray trusts Dortch’s good hands.
NOTE: Yeah! Yeah! Yeah Boy! The Waiver Wire Wonder brings heat with Dortch the Torch! Yeah! (I know you needed me to hype you up a little bit)
Other wide receivers to consider:
- Wan’Dale Robinson – New York Giants, 12 Targets, 6 receptions, 44 yards
- Devaughn Vele – Denver Broncos. 8 Targets, 8 Receptions, 39 yards
- Ray-Ray McCloud – Atlanta Falcons, 7 targets, 4 receptions, 52 yards. (Yes, I have added Ray-Ray in Scott Fish Bowl already.)
Tight Ends
Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints
If Foster Moreau is out (he is in concussion protocol) Johnson could see his target share in addition to his own in Week 2. Juwan Johnson had 3 targets in Week 1 and turned those into 2 receptions, 26 yards, and a touchdown. Carr looks for him in the red zone. Could be a great add-and-play in Week 2 or stash.
Colby Parkinson, Los Angeles Rams
We have already mentioned that Puka Nacua and his massive target share will not be on the field in Week 2. Parkinson played on 88% of the offensive snaps in Week 1. His stat line looked like this in Week 2: 5 targets, 4 receptions, 47 yards. Expect Parkinson to be involved.
