Welcome back to the Weekly Wrap. Week 14 of Fantasy Hockey is the beginning of the home stretch. This was the first week I found myself comparing and contrasting my head-to-head schedule against other teams in my league.
I find myself in a dog fight for first in three pools. I’m in a tight race for second with three teams in a fourth pool, and in a slobber knocker battle from fourth and ninth. I’ve stopped short of creating a spreadsheet to determine the strength of each team’s remaining schedule, at least for now.
Each matchup becomes more important than the last. Last night, I must have checked on the Minnesota Wild vs. Vegas Golden Knights game every ten seconds. My persistence paid off. Shea Theodore, D, Vegas Golden Knights picked up his second assist of the game late in the third period. That assist allowed me to squeak past my opponent 218.6 to 218.4, leaving me in striking distance of first (Phew!).
Enough decompressing, let’s take a look at the movers and shakers from week 14 of fantasy hockey.
Western Conference
Central Division
Jason Robertson, LW/RW, Dallas Stars
Robertson is starting to wake up. He has five points and 12 shots in his last four games. The three shots per game is .5 per game more than his seasonal average. Three per game is getting into the range we expect of Robertson.
Cole Perfetti, LW/RW, Winnipeg Jets
Week 14 of fantasy hockey looked a lot like week 13. His pointless drought is up to nine games. It was about this time last season that Perfetti entered a wicked slump that lasted the majority of the regular season. It is one of the frustrating things with young players, inconsistency. They never develop or peak when you expect them to. He’s played 184 career games, still short of his breakout threshold.
Be patient. There’s a chance he turns it on in the fourth quarter of the season – and that’s when you will need him the most.
If you find yourself out of the playoff chase and looking toward next year, Perfetti would be the type of player I would look to acquire in a trade.
Connor Hellebuyck, G, Winnipeg Jets
Hellebuyck won both of his starts, with one being a shutout. He is the 41st goalie in NHL history to win 300 career NHL games. He now has 301 career wins. There does not appear to be any slowing down of his game.
Kirill Kaprizov, LW, Minnesota Wild
Kaprizov has resumed skating, but I have not seen a report. that he has returned to practice. It does not appear he will rejoin the wild in the next week. Skating is a good sign. I own him in three pools, I would much rather he take a few extra days now and return 100% healthy. I will need him in the playoffs.
Pacific Division
Quinn Hughes, D, Vancouver Canucks
Hughes scored a goal and added four assists in four games. He fired four shots on the net and no hits. He does have 113 shots over 38 games, this puts him on pace to break 200 shots for the first time in his career.
Hughes has ten points during his six-game point streak.
Mark Stone, RW, Vegas Golden Knights
Stone picked up two goals and three assists in four games last week. He now sits with 38 points in 29 games. On the one hand, it is surprising Stone has only surpassed 70 points once in his career. On the other, it isn’t surprising at all. He might be the most injured player over the past decade. Even though he has missed 13 games this year, Stone is on pace to smash his career-high of 72 points.
Darcy Kuemper, G, Los Angeles Kings
Kuemper gave up two goals (total) over his two starts last week, winning both games 2-1. He’s now 12-2-4 on the season with a sparkling .921 save percentage. Expect Kuemper to pick up more starts as we head deeper into the dog days of the NHL season.
Eastern Conference
Metropolitan Division
Jordan Staal, C, Carolina Hurricanes
Every once in a while Staal turns back the clock and becomes a prime waiver pick-up. Week 14 of fantasy hockey was the perfect example of this.
He scored five goals on just eight shots and added two assists in four games played. He chipped in ten hits and a plus five to help out peripherally as well.
Anders Lee, LW, New York Islanders
With five points in three games last week, Lee is up to 35 points on the season. Lee is about the only bright spot on the Islanders this season.
Most fantasy hockey leagues had given up on Lee. In pool after pool I watched him get claimed during the first half of this season. If he maintains his ‘torrid’ pace, he will set a career-high in points. On pace for 68, this would be just the second time he surpassed the 60-point plateau.
Jack Roslovic, C/RW, Carolina Hurricanes
The changing of the calendar year also changed the luck of Roslovic, at least through the first seven games of 2025. After scoring 6, 6, and 5 goals in each of the first three months of the season, Roslovic finds himself on a seven-game pointless streak.
Last game he played 13:35 on a line with Sebastian Aho, C, and Seth Jarvis. With that kind of deployment, you’d think he would break out of the slump sooner than later.
Atlantic Division
Nikita Kuckerov, RW, Tampa Bay Lightning
Kucherov keeps doing Kucherov things, with another seven points in four games. He tacked on 15 shots as well. There’s almost no point in including him in these weekly updates. It’s a bit redundant repeating the same narrative week in and week out. Week 14 of fantasy hockey is a carbon copy of the previous 13 weeks.
Sam Reinhart, RW, Florida Panthers
After a six-game goalless and pointless streak, Reinhart has now collected five goals over his last three games. This includes a short-handed goal last night in a 4-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.
His shooting percentage has taken a dip. Mind you, it’s still an incredible 23.5%.
Patrick Kane, RW, Detroit Red Wings
Kane had six points in three games last week and is riding a seven-game point streak. In those seven games, Kane has 13 points, six from the power play. At 36, Kane is turning back the clock and giving us some vintage Patty Kane.
Brandon Hagel, LW, Tampa Bay Lightning
Hagel might be having the most impressive unheralded seasons in the NHL. His 48 points in 41 games are impressive. What’s more impressive is that he has an equal number of points short-handed as he does on the power play, five on each. It also means Hagel is almost a point-per-game player at even strength.
He looks worth every first-round pick Tampa gave up for him.
Alexander Ovechkin, LW, Washinton Capitals
Career Goals: 873 (20 on the season)
Gretzky’s Record: 894
To Tie Record: 21 Goals
To Break Record: 22 Goals
That will do it for this week. Thanks for reading.
