Our fine fleet of Fantrax writers did our Consensus Catcher Rankings a while back and we like to always give you the most up-to-date information as possible. There’s a problem though. Have you ever tried to coordinate five or six fantasy baseball analysts in the month of March? There are drafts every day. We have mountains of content to create. Our 2023 Fantasy Baseball Draft Kit is growing as we speak. So rather than chase the staff around trying to get their updates, I’ll post my catcher rankings here. As a bonus, I’ve also included my rankings for AL- and NL-Only leagues as well.
The season is not here yet, but why not get a head start and jump in a Fantrax Classic Draft contest? Get a jump on the season with a Best Ball league or maybe a Draft and Hold. Or put some green on the line with a new season-long league to try and conquer. There’s no better time than now to get your baseball on!
The 2023 Catcher Pool
I wouldn’t exactly call it an explosion but there is a mini-revolution at the position. We don’t have the elite bats of the Pudge and Pizza days, but the position has solid bats that run deeper than in recent memory. And in even better news, there are plenty of great catching prospects coming down the pipeline over the next few years.
The top of the catching rankings are solid and as reliable as any group of hitters can be, but I think some of the values at the position lie in the younger crew on the way up. Everybody knows all about Adley Rutschman, MJ Melendez, William Contreras, Gabriel Moreno, Shea Langeliers and Logan O’Hoppe are also in line to play significant fantasy roles this season. Then there’s Francisco Alvarez in New York who might be the best hitter of all the young bucks.
I think when we get to the 2024 catcher rankings we’re going to be sitting in a pretty happy place.
2023 Catcher Rankings for Mixed, NL-Only & AL-Only
The catcher rankings below are not set in stone but the big bad wolf shouldn’t be coming to blow them down any time soon. There are a couple of things that could happen to make some changes. For example, we really don’t know how the Mets are going to handle Francisco Alvarez. If he gets called up early in the season he shoots right up the rankings, but for now it looks like they’ll go with the defense of Omar Narvaez.
The rankings are set to default for the overall mixed league numbers. You can sort for NL or AL-Only leagues by clicking on the appropriate column headers. Enjoy and feel free to throw some shade my way in the comments below.
