2025 Fantasy Football: Week 5 Weekend Waiver Wire

Week 5 is here, and that means it’s time for the Weekend Waiver Wire Must Stashes. At this point, your roster probably looks like it just staggered out of a bar at 2 a.m. a couple injuries, a disappointing draft pick you regret like bad pizza (see Calvin Ridley), and a bench spot that feels more like your in-laws’ couch than a place of comfort. That’s where we come in.

Every week, some player jumps out of the bushes; more snaps, more touches, or an opportunity nobody saw coming. If you wait until Tuesday, everyone in your league will be chasing them like seagulls after French fries at Revere Beach (look it up, it’s in Massachusetts). The trick is stashing them now before they go boom.

Whether you are patching lineup holes with duct tape, I try t use the kind they use on airplanes, or just looking to make your league-mates jealous, here are your Week 5 must-stash players.

Week 5 Weekend Waiver Wire

Quarterbacks

Carson Wentz, Minnesota Vikings

Wentz only passed for 173 yards but had 2 touchdowns in Week 3. Then he followed that up in Week 4 with 350 yards and 2 touchdowns.  He has the offense moving better than JJ McCarthy did, that is for sure. It’s a tougher match-up with the Browns defense in Week 5, but there are a lot of talented pass catchers on the Vikings.

Jaxson Dart, New York Giants

The kid got his first start in Week 4 and didn’t look the least bit rattled; he tossed for 111 yards and a touchdown, then decided to use his legs for another 54 yards and a score. Not too shabby for a debut.

Now he gets the Saints in Week 5, and let me tell you, this defense has been more generous to quarterbacks than grandma with Halloween candy, multiple TDs allowed in every single game. Jaxon isn’t just a dart throw (see what I did there?) he’s a legit play if you’re quarterback needy in season-long.

Other quarterbacks to consider:

  • Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams – 389 yards, 3 TDs
  • Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers – 150 yards, TD

Quarterback Notes: Stafford is just to get you ready to add him on Tuesday since he played on Thursday. He has been in the article for a few weeks. Dart feels like an actual Konami Code type of QB as long as he stays upright. Wentz might be great in the second half of the season if he can keep the job. Bryce Young has not been great, but he has a nice stretch of easy matchups coming his way—Dolphins, Cowboys, and Jets; all bottom feeders at defending the pass.

Running Backs

Zavier Scott, Minnesota Vikings

Scott was heavily involved in the passing game for the Vikings in Week 4. He saw 8 targets, which he turned into 6 receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown. This is really a deep league pick-up. We don’t know if he can maintain this value. But for as long as Aaron Jones is out, he is the pass-catching back.

Kendre Miller, New Orleans Saints

Lots of people are talking about him because his touches went up in each of the past two games. His snap count also went from 15% to roughly 30% the past 2 games as well. Miller is trending up and is a nice addition at running back if you need help. I would add and hold.

Other running backs to consider:

  • Tyler Allgeier, Atlanta Falcons – 16 carries, 51 total yards, TD
  • Emanuel Wilson, Green Bay Packers – 8 carries, 44 yards, 3 receptions, 37 yards

Running Back Notes: All four players mentioned are add and hold type guys. Scott and Wilson could be very interesting as things roll out this season. Miller should be the primary add if you are running back needy. Allgeier is a very talented backup that is game script dependent.

Wide Receivers

Romeo Doubs, Green Bay Packers

Doubs had a career day with 3 touchdowns in Week 4 and is on a bye in Week 5. Because of the bye week, he has not been added yet in a lot of leagues. He is probably the Packers’ top option at wide receiver, but please remember the Packers will not be playing the Cowboys every week.

Marvin Mims, Denver Broncos

In Week 4, Mims saw 6 targets, which he turned into 6 receptions and 69 yards. He also had 1 carry for 16 yards and a touchdown. If you play in a league where individual players also get return yards, he is a must-add. In more standard scoring settings, he is a stash.

Elic Ayomanor, Tennessee Titans

He saw 7 targets in Week 4. He only had 2 receptions for 44 yards. The targets are there, the offense is horrible, and the quarterback is not great. He is an add still. But he is also a hold still too. Very touchdown-dependent right now.

Other wide receivers to consider:

  • Jalen Tolbert, Dallas Cowboys – 6 targets, 4 receptions, 61 yards
  • Malik Washington, Miami Dolphins – 3 Targets, 2 receptions, 13 yards, 2 carries, 8 yards
  • Isaiah Bond, Cleveland Browns – 6 targets, 3 receptions, 58 yards,

Wide Receiver Notes: If Doubs is still out there, I would add him even with the bye week.  I mentioned Mims and Ayomanor as they should be considered. I am probably more interested in deep leagues in Tolbert, Washington, and Bond to see how they handle their increased roles in their offenses. All three are now starting wide receivers on their respective teams.

Tight Ends

Tommy Tremble, Carolina Panthers

If you are not some diehard fantasy player, you are probably saying, who? But in Week 4, Tommy had 8 targets, 5 receptions, 42 yards, and a touchdown. In Week 5, the Panthers play the Dolphins. The Dolphins give up the second-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. Tommy is a big target, and he catches what is thrown to him. Look for Bryce Young to pass him the ball a bit again in Week 5.

Mason Taylor, New York Jets

In Week 4, Tyler saw 7 targets. He turned that into 5 receptions and 65 yards. He owns 81% of the snaps at tight end for the Jets, so he will be on the field. In the last two games, he has seen a total of 13 targets. This jet looks like he is ready to take off.

Tight End Notes: Jake Tonges played on Thursday night, and you can not get him until Tuesday, but as long as George Kittle is out, I would consider him an add as well. Tremble is an add and play this week. Taylor is someone to add and hold as his role is defined.

NOTE: Yes, I know I didn’t write up Tonges as other Tight Ends to consider. That is OK. I make the rules around here!
