Week 8 Weekend Waiver Wire

Quarterbacks

Joe Flacco, Cincinnati Bengals

Flacco has passed the ball 92 times in his 2 games with the Bengals. His totals are 561 yards and 5 touchdowns over that 2-game stretch. He has made Tee Higgins, Noah Fant, and Ja’Marr Chase all great fantasy plays again. We were all screaming, “Make Bengals Great Again,” and this old man walked out, changed one orange baseball hat for another on his head, and did just that. Thank you, Joe. Thank you so much!

Michael Penix, Atlanta Falcons

He has great skill position players and tends to produce in easy match-ups. This week, he gets the Dolphins, who give up the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks.

Quarterback Notes: Andy Dalton looks like he might be taking over for the short term as quarterback for the Panthers. If you are desperate, he is available and breathing. Flacco is the add if you need a QB.

Running Backs

Tyrone Tracy Jr, New York Giants

Out of the running backs in the list this week, Tracy is the one with standalone value. He is getting roughly 36% of the snaps behind rookie stud muffin Cam Skattebo. He is more elusive and faster than Skattebo, and his role may grow in the passing game. Look for him to be at roughly 10 touches per game now.

Other Running Backs to Consider:

Brashard Smith, Kansas City Chiefs – 14 carries, 39 yards, 5 receptions, 42 yards. Probably should be added now.

Tyler Allgeier, Atlanta Falcons – 4 carries, 16 yards. He is Bijan Robinson’s clear backup and very talented if he gets touches

Isaiah Davis, New York Jets – Back up to Breece Hall

Running Back Notes: Tracy should be rostered everywhere. Brashard Smith is someone I am adding in PPR leagues now as well. He had 19 total touches in Week 7. I like that.

Wide Receivers

Tez Johnson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tez has seen 12 targets over the past 2 games. He turned that into 5 receptions, 93 yards, and 2 touchdowns. If you are wide receiver needy in Week 8. Add him and play him. Baker Mayfield throws the ball to anyone that is open. Tez gets open.

Jaylin Noel, Houston Texans

In the last two games, Noel has surpassed 10 fantasy points in each. In Week 7, he saw 7 targets and turned that into 4 receptions for 77 yards. Jaylin is stepping up when Houston needs him to right now. It is an early Merry Christmas if you play Noel in Week 8.Tony

Franklin/Marvin Mims – Denver Broncos

Both Franklin and Mim saw good target share in Week 7. Franklin had 10 targets and Mims had 7. They also both produced those targets. Franklin had 3 receptions, 19 yards, and a touchdown. Mims had 6 receptions and 85 yards. Against the Cowboys in Week 8, both are playable, but I lean Mims slightly over Franklin.

Other Wide Receivers to Consider:

Darnell Mooney, Atlanta Falcons – 5 targets, 3 receptions, 68 yards. Ray-Ray is gone-gone

Xavier Legette, Carolina Panthers – 11 targets, 92 yards, TD. Dalton targeted him 5 times in Week 7

Kayshon Boutte, New England Patriots – 2 targets, 2 receptions, 55 yards, TD

Chimere Dike, Tennessee Titans – 4 targets, 4 receptions, 70 yards, TD

Wide Receiver Notes: There are a lot of potential plays this week at wide receiver to help you get through this bye week. Tez, Noel, Mims, and Franklin are all in great spots in Week 8. Mooney, Leggette, and Boutte could all turn into something based on scenarios. Dike is risky but also in a great spot, Week 8. (If you read this column, you know I never like Elic Ayomanor even though the Fantasy Community was in consensus on his greatness. Dike fits what Cam Ward does better, and for Week 8, what the Colts do not defend well.

Tight Ends

Cade Otton, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

When the going gets tough in the Bucs’ passing game, Otton comes through. Every time receivers are out, this guy steps up. He has scored double-digit fantasy points in 2 of the last 3 games. Never going for less than 50 yards in that span. High floor play in Week 8. We all love some hot floor play to get us going.

Dalton Schultz, Houston Texans

In Week 7, Schultz saw 10 targets that he turned into 9 receptions and 98 yards. He was the first read on most of the pass plays. With all the injuries at wide receiver for the Texans, look for him to step up again in Week 8. He has been limited in practice all week, so pay attention to that.

Other tight ends to consider:

Noah Fant, Cincinnati Bengals – 4 targets, 4 receptions, 44 yards, TD

Mason Taylor, New York Jets – 5 targets, 3 receptions, 31 yards

Tight Notes: Schultz and Otton should be rostered and in lineups everywhere for Week 8. The fact that they are not should be a criminal offense. Fant is another guy I am actively plugging in; the match-up is right, and Flacco has given him life. Taylor is more of a gamble, but the Jets are hurting for pass catchers, and Justin Fields has to throw to someone.
