We are around the quarter mark of the 2026 fantasy football season. At this point in the year, you should have a clear idea of what your team needs and where you’re set. Whether you’re riding high or trying to turn things around, you can’t fill your roster with middling players. Drop these players from your fantasy football team in Week 5.

Week 5 Players You Can Drop
All players are rostered in over 50% of Fantrax leagues
Kyler Murray – QB, Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings are 4-0 but have won two games without scoring a single TD. Kyler Murray is doing the bare minimum right now. That may be good enough for the Vikings in real life, but he is not contributing to your fantasy football team. Murray is averaging 207.5 passing yards in his two full games and has only scored a single TD in them. The rushing upside isn’t there either. Murray has just 42 rushing yards on the season. QB is a deep position in fantasy football. Unless you’re in a league where you can start multiple QBs, drop Kyler Murray to the waiver wire in Week 5.
Daniel Jones – QB, Indianapolis Colts
Daniel Jones was on this list last week, but he’s still rostered in 70% of Fantrax leagues. Jones has consistently scored double-digit points in all four of his games this year. However, he has not scored more than 14.5 points in a single game. That’s despite the Colts allowing 26 points per game. Jones has also thrown an interception in all four of his games this season and peaked with 235 passing yards so far. This was a plus matchup against the Commanders, and he still couldn’t get it done. Perhaps the game being played in London affected Jones and the Colts as a whole. However, the results so far are hard to ignore. You can drop Daniel Jones.
Chris Godwin – WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Chris Godwin led the Buccaneers in targets this week with seven. That’s not the type of player you usually want to get rid of, but Godwin has serious upside issues. Through the first four weeks of the season, Godwin has failed to hit 50 receiving yards or double-digit fantasy points. This was his best performance,  but most of his 9.1 fantasy points came from his six receptions. In his three prior games, Godwin averaged fewer than four targets per game. This Tampa Bay offense has been lackluster and does not seem to be getting any better. Jalon Daniels may favor the veteran Godwin, but unless you’re in a 14+ team league, there’s no reason to roster a floor play.
Jauan Jennings – WR, Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings offense just isn’t working. That’s fine when their defense steps up every game, but it doesn’t help your fantasy football team. Jauan Jennings was not the beneficiary of Justin Jefferson’s injury. KT.J. Hockenson, Aaron Jones Sr., and Jordan Addison drew 27 of the team’s 33 targets on the day. Jennings only had a single target. Whether or not Jefferson plays, the result was the same as in previous weeks. So far, the former 49er has only drawn four targets. In an already struggling offense, there’s just no reason to roster Jennings. Even in deep leagues, there isn’t much appeal. Cut loose and pick up a handcuff RB or a WR with actual upside.
Dalton Schultz – TE, Houston Texans
Schultz has been mediocre for fantasy football this season. An outlier performance against the worst TE defense in the league does not make up for low target volume. This week in a shootout, Schultz only drew two targets. When Nico Collins is healthy, he is the focal point of this offense. Xavier Hutchinson and Jaylin Noel are also getting work. If you remove the boom game against the Bengals, Schultz looks more like waiver wire material than a TE you should start in fantasy football. Unless you’re in a deep league where a middling floor can pay off, you’re better off sending Schultz to the waiver wire.
