Week 6 is here and there’s a lot to consider as injuries are piling up and bye weeks are beginning. But before we dive into the Week 6 tight end rankings, it’s worth noting that tight ends have finished as top performers in overall fantasy points for back-to-back weeks. T.J. Hockenson held the honors in Week 4, and Taysom Hill followed suit last week. Hill rushed nine times for 112 yards and punched in three scores on the ground. He also had one pass attempt for 22 yards and a touchdown. Hill won’t have finishes like that every week, but his ceiling is hard to ignore.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t all good news for tight ends. Kyle Pitts, Logan Thomas, Dawson Knox, Cameron Brate, and Jordan Brevin were all ruled out for Week 5. Dalton Schultz played last week but was limited after aggravating his knee injury. Pat Freiermuth and Darren Waller also suited up but were eventually ruled out during their respective games. Freiermuth suffered a concussion, while Waller exited with a hamstring injury. There are a bunch of injuries to stay on top of this week. Good luck, everybody!
Week 6 Tight End Notes
Bye Weeks: DET, HOU, LVR, TEN
- Zach Ertz is in a smash spot this week against Seattle. The Seahawks are the leakiest unit against tight ends. They’ve also surrendered the second-most passing yards to the position. Ertz has double-digit targets in three games this season and is the second-most targeted player on the Cardinals. However, those double-digit targets may dry up shortly, as Arizona’s wideouts are getting healthy and DeAndre Hopkins returns in Week 7. Take advantage while you still can!
- David Njoku has been one of the steadiest tight ends of late. He has at least six targets and 70 receiving yards in each of the last three games. He also has a 23.5% target share over that span. Njoku is the TE8 on the season, and his 289 total receiving yards are the fifth-most at the position. He gets a favorable matchup this week against the Patriots, who have given up the second-most touchdowns to tight ends this season (5).
- As noted earlier, Taysom Hill was one of the top overall performers in fantasy in Week 5. As the Saints’ gadget player, he lines up all over the field and has a total of six touchdowns (five rushing) in four games. Hill is a weekly boom-or-bust tight end, but he should continue to be leaned on this week with all the injuries on the Saints’ offense. Hill faces the Bengals this week, who are a middle-of-the-road defense against tight ends. He’s a TE1 this week with his upside.
- Evan Engram caught 6-of-10 passes for 69 yards in Week 5 and was one of four tight ends who saw double-digit looks. Engram has yet to score this season, but he has been getting decent volume. He’s averaging five targets a game, and his 26 targets on the season are the 12th-most at the position. Engram gets a plus matchup this week against the Colts, who have allowed four touchdowns to tight ends this season.
- I mentioned Will Dissly last week. He’s one of the most touchdown-dependent tight ends this season but is a dart throw in favorable matchups. Week 6 is one of those weeks. He faces the Cardinals who are 31st against tight ends. I like Dissly’s odds to find the end zone in this one.
- Tyler Conklin falls down my ranks this week. He failed to catch his lone target last week, putting up a goose egg for fantasy managers. The Jets only had 21 pass attempts in Week 5, but Conklin started seeing a decline in targets once Zach Wilson took over in Week 4. This, coupled with an increase in playing time for C.J. Uzomah, doesn’t bode well for Conklin moving forward. Plus, Green Bay is a stingy unit against tight ends and has yet to allow a touchdown to the position.
