For Week 9, I recommended Justin Fields against the Dolphins, Taylor Heinicke against the Vikings, and Andy Dalton against the Saints. Fields exceeded all expectations, breaking the regular season single-game rushing record for a quarterback en route to finishing as the top fantasy quarterback on the week. Heinicke had a useable QB15 fantasy finish but finished with less than 200 passing yards, and Dalton had a lackluster game in primetime with just one touchdown on Monday night.
Overall, Week 9 offered decent performances for fantasy GMs who eschewed drafting a quarterback early and have been streaming the position. If you drafted Patrick Mahomes or Jalen Hurts early or managed to snag Tua Tagovailoa or Geno Smith later on in your drafts, this article probably isn’t for you. But if you’ve been streaming quarterbacks this season or have Lamar Jackson or Joe Burrow on bye, here are some viable Week 10 quarterback streamers with good matchups to target.
Week 10 Quarterback Streamers
Check out our Week 10 Rankings: QB | RB | WR | TE | PPR |
Note: The below quarterback streamers are the “best of the rest”, meaning that they’re generally rostered in less than about 50-60 percent of major fantasy football platforms at the time of this writing even after waivers have run on Wednesday.
Daniel Jones (49% ESPN, 53% Yahoo)
Even with the Giants having been on bye last week, Daniel Jones ranks fourth in rushing attempts, fourth in rushing yards, and fifth in rushing touchdowns among quarterbacks. In fact, Jones has logged at least six rushing attempts in every single game so far this season, and the Texans’ defense has been susceptible to mobile quarterbacks, having allowed 47 rushing yards to Justin Fields back in Week 3. Jones has been inconsistent, but as with other mobile quarterbacks, his ability to create points with his legs gives him a high weekly ceiling.
Of course, the risk is that Houston’s defense ranks dead last in the league against the run in DVOA. There’s a chance that Saquon Barkley could have a monstrous week with multiple rushing touchdowns with Jones not needing to do much in the red zone. Still, Jones’s potential to run for some yardage and perhaps sneak in a rushing touchdown near the goal line keeps him among the top quarterback streamers for Week 10.
Russell Wilson (51% ESPN, 61% Yahoo)
There’s no getting around the fact that Russell Wilson and the entire Broncos offense have been pretty awful to start the season. That said, coming off a bye, Wilson should be rested and as close to full health as he’s been all year, and there’s a chance that Denver was able to work on correcting their struggles on offense over the last two weeks. It helps, too, that the Broncos’ offensive line ranks 10th in pass block win rate against a Titans defense that has struggled to rush the passer since Harold Landry tore his ACL in the preseason, ranking just 24th in pass rush win rate this year.
In fact, despite having given Patrick Mahomes a tough for much of last week’s game, Tennessee’s defense has been average against the pass and has allowed the third-most passing yards per game to opposing quarterbacks through nine weeks. They just happened to match up well against the Chiefs’ offense due to lack of speed or downfield threats, of which the Broncos have both in Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton. Wilson remains a risky play, but he has a fairly high ceiling in this matchup, keeping him among the serviceable quarterback streamers this week.
Jared Goff (34% ESPN, 51% Yahoo)
The Lions have struggled mightily on offense since starting off the season on a hot streak, but Jared Goff continues to carry fantasy upside with Detroit’s defense continually forcing them into shootouts. Detroit at Chicago projects for 48.5 total points scored, tied for second-most among the Week 10 slate of games. The Lions’ 26th ranked passing defense combined with the Bears’ 28th ranked passing defense on the other side could result in a lot of touchdowns scored in this game.
Again, a concern is that both teams also struggle to stop the run. Detroit ranks 26th against the run, and with Chicago ranking 28th against the run, there’s a chance that the four running backs in this game could see a lot of red-zone work and vulture the bulk of any touchdowns scored in this game. Like Jones above, Goff has a shaky floor, especially with the injuries Detroit has at wide receiver and with T.J. Hockenson having been traded away. Still, while a risky play, Goff still carries plenty of side, keeping him among this week’s quarterback streamers.
Honorable Mentions
In deeper leagues, if none of the above-recommended quarterback streamers are available, Marcus Mariota ran for 43 yards last time he played the Panthers two weeks ago. Carolina’s defense also ranks just 26th against the pass and has allowed the fourth-most points per game to opponents on the season. And if you’re desperate with four teams on bye this week, Andy Dalton has a high ceiling despite having been inconsistent over his last few starts. The Steelers’ defense has also allowed the second-most passing yards per game to opposing quarterbacks and the 10th most points per game to opponents through nine weeks.
