Now that the glitz and glamour of the All-Star weekend is behind us, we can concentrate on what we do best – tinker with our fantasy basketball team rosters. There are still rosterable players available during this last post-trade deadline run of regular season games. In fact, many fantasy leagues have been won historically with a random player getting hot. Remember Ramon Sessions? What about Marcus Thornton? I think Gallinari got hot a few years back. Ricky Rubio tends to heat up post-All-Star break. Though I wouldn’t bet on him this year. Regardless, there are going to be players available to boost up your fantasy team. Just keep your eyes open. Especially the third one.
All-Star Week Fantasy Basketball Deep Waiver Wire Adds
Shaedon Sharpe, SG/SF – Portland Trail Blazers (24% rostered)
Stat highlight: Scored in double digits in the last 4 games
With Anferee Simons expected to miss the rest of the fantasy season, Shaedon Sharpe should expect a bump up in playing time and offensive role. Going forward, the rookie should be expected to average 4-5 three-point attempts per game. Adding his overall athleticism to the mix, Sharpe could be a solid provider of rebounds, steals, and blocks. And, perhaps, even not be awful at field goal percentage considering a solid chunk of his shots are dunks. Also, did you know he’s Canadian?
Delon Wright, PG – Washington (17% rostered)
Stat highlight: Ranks second in league with 2 steals per game
The way I look at it is if you can get the second-best player in any category off the waivers, you should do it. Would you leave the second-highest rebounder or assister hanging on the waivers? Maybe you would but even overall, mostly thanks to the steals, Wright ranks within the top 70 players in 9-cat per game. Particularly in a deeper-than-average league, Wright is a no-brain pick-up. Which is very convenient for most of us.
Kevin Love, PF/C – Miami Heat (21% rostered)
Stat highlight: Career 37.2% three-point shooter
Technically still waiting to clear the waivers, Love is expected to join the Miami Heat in the coming days. With the Heat coming in 28th in 3-point percentage and 26th in overall offensive, Love’s arrival should open up things on the inside and lift the team’s three-point percentage. Love averaged 20 minutes per game in the 41 games he played for the Cavs this season and ranked 236th on a per-game basis in 9-cat fantasy. Can he raise those numbers to be worthy of a roster spot? Maybe. The key difference from Cleveland is that Miami needs him, Cleveland didn’t.
Mac McClung, SG – Philadelphia 76ers (0% rostered)
Stat highlight: Received 999 points out of a possible 1000 in the slam dunk contest
Just kidding. Great dunks though.
