Every week throughout the NFL season I will bring you an IDP article talking about anything and everything that consists of IDP. I will talk about IDP Breakout players, keep tabs on possible waiver-wire additions and some IDP Sleeper plays during the year. It should be fun. Let’s take a look at some of my favorite Breakout IDP Performances and Waiver-Wire Moves headed into Week 9 of the NFL Season.
Week 9 IDP Waiver Wire Moves
Jack Sanborn, LB Chicago Bears
Jack Sanborn was the IDP waiver-wire darling of 2022, but the Chicago Bears signed T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds to large free-agent contracts in the offseason. An injury to Edmunds, which could keep him out multiple weeks, should give Sanborn a chance at a full-time role again.
Sanborn has been a quality IDP player when he has gotten a starter’s snap share. If he is not being held on a roster, go grab him as he is an expected starter for the next three to four weeks.
David Mayo, LB Washington Commanders
With Cody Barton now on injured reserve for the next three weeks, David Mayo is going to get a chance to shine. He stepped in during Week 8 and recorded nine tackles against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Commanders made some moves at the trade deadline sending defensive ends Chase Young to the San Francisco 49ers and Martez Sweat to the Chicago Bears. We will have to wait a week or so to find out what defensive ends will be the replacements for Young and Sweat. This would seem to indicate the linebackers could be relied upon more and more as the season progresses.
Henry To’oTo’o, LB Houston Texans
Rookie linebacker Heny To’oTo’o out of Alabama has had some strong games this season. He has a 12-tackle game and 10-tackle game this season for Houston. The Texans have had a lot of injuries to the linebacker core this season, but it seems that To’oTo’o has secured the SAM LB role for now.
He has 48 tackles in seven games this season. He has struggled in pass coverage which has caused him to come off the field a bit this season on passing downs. But the youngster continues to grow and improve.
Amani Hooker, S Tennessee Titans
With the news that Kevin Byard has been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, that makes Amani Hooker very interesting. Hooker has been decent when healthy and now he gets a chance to lead the Tennessee Titans secondary.
Hooker has 40 tackles, four passes defended, three tackles for loss, one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. The Titans will definitely lean on him to make more plays in the secondary with Byard now gone.
Tyrique Stevenson, CB Chicago Bears
Rookie cornerback Tyrique Stevenson out of Miami isn’t necessarily having a good season for the Chicago Bears, but he is seeing a lot of action for IDP purposes. Stevenson had 12 tackles last week versus the Los Angeles Chargers. He has 32 tackles in his last four games.
Playing on the opposite side of Stevenson is Jaylon Johnson, who has been one of the best cornerbacks in the league this season. This has caused quarterbacks to avoid throwing at Johnson, which in turn has meant Stevenson is getting targeted constantly. Stevenson is in the top five for all cornerbacks in getting targeted this season. I don’t see that changing any time soon.
