While the small forward position isn’t filled with as many fantasy stars as the shooting guard position, it is still very deep with dynasty talent. It offers a plethora of rookies and young rising stars with extremely bright futures. There are also quite a few long-time veterans who can still deliver elite fantasy stats for the next several years.
Dynasty Small Forward Risers
Jalen Johnson has taken an astronomical leap in his third season. He played sparingly in his first two seasons but has now absorbed a much bigger role for the Hawks. He has a very friendly fantasy game, where he can make a solid contribution in every category. Johnson has the potential to be a top-five dynasty small forward in the next year or two.
Deni Avdija is in the midst of a breakout year in his fourth season and things are starting to finally click for the former top 10 draft pick. He is developing a very well-rounded fantasy game and only seems to be getting better as we move into the second half of the season. It wouldn’t be crazy for Avdija to crack the top 15 dynasty small forward ranks by the end of the year.
Dynasty Small Forward Fallers
OG Anunoby is 26 years old and in his seventh year in the league and while he should be putting up his best stats in the prime of his career, he is having his worst season from a fantasy perspective since the 2019-2020 season. His fantasy game hasn’t benefitted from the change of scenery from Toronto to New York.
LeBron James is still a dominant force in fantasy basketball, however at the age of 39, the end is near for the future Hall of Famer. His contract is up at the end of next year and it’s a real possibility King James could be hanging it up after the 2024-2025 season. Even if he continues playing past next season, his dynasty value would be very minimal after he turns 40 years old.
Potential Dynasty Basketball Breakouts
Jabari Walker has done some serious damage in the games he has received ample playing time. The Portland Trail Blazers are likely to be sellers at the trade deadline and Walker would be in line for a massive breakout if they ship off key veterans, Jerami Grant and Malcom Brogdon.
Peyton Watson, similar to Jalen Johnson, has been buried on the bench for his first two seasons. He has showcased big-time potential when given the minutes, he just needs an opportunity. Once a bigger role eventually opens up for him, he will likely shoot up the dynasty small forward rankings.
Cam Whitmore is a scoring machine, who has the ability to be one of the top scorers in the game. He will probably never provide adequate numbers in the assists department, but he still has the makings to be a fantasy star.
