We are now through the first six weeks of the NBA season and there has been some shuffling in the dynasty small forward rankings. While there has only been one new addition to the top 10, there has been plenty of movement inside of it. Many players have seen their dynasty stock skyrocket or plummet early on in the season. Let’s take a look at some of the risers and fallers among the dynasty small forwards.
Dynasty Risers
RJ Barrett, Toronto Raptors
Barrett is enjoying the best season of his young career. He is currently one of only four players averaging at least 23 points, six rebounds, six assists, and two three-pointers per game. The other three players accomplishing this amazing feat are Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, and Cade Cunningham. He ranks among the top 25 in both points and assists. Barrett has averaged 26.7 points over his last seven games. He has jumped up nine spots in the dynasty small forward rankings and is on the verge of climbing into the top 10 if he continues his tremendous play.
Cameron Thomas, Brooklyn Nets
Thomas is scoring at a higher clip than Donovan Mitchell, Victor Wembanyama, Cade Cunningham, Stephen Curry, and James Harden. His 24.7 points per game ranks 16th in the league. He has dropped six 30+ point performances in his first 17 games. Not only is Thomas averaging a career-high in points, but he is also averaging career-highs in assists, three-pointers, and field goal percentage. He has risen a whopping 20 spots and now finds himself in the top 15 of the dynasty small forward rankings.
Dynasty Fallers
Ausar Thompson, Detroit Pistons
Thompson has only played in four games this season due to a blood clot issue. The Pistons brought in a plethora of players, including Tobias Harris, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Malik Beasley to compete with Thompson for playing time. They also drafted Ron Holland with the fifth overall selection, who will also be vying for minutes at both forward spots. Thompson is currently averaging 15.5 minutes per game through his first four contests. There doesn’t seem to be a clear path to consistent playing time, unless some injuries arise and open up more minutes. He has fallen 17 spots in the dynasty small forward rankings.
Devin Vassell, San Antonio Spurs
Vassell is in a similar situation to Thompson. The Spurs brought in Harrison Barnes, Chris Paul, and Stephon Castle this offseason, which could mean fewer minutes for Vassell. San Antonio also has Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, and Julian Champaganie, who all need minutes at small forward. Vassell has come off the bench in all of his six games this season and it’s unclear if there are any plans to insert him into the starting lineup in the near future. He is averaging his lowest points and assists per game since 2021-22 and his rebounds are at a career low. He has dropped 13 spots in the dynasty small forward rankings.
