2025 Fantasy Football: Week 2 Weekend Waiver Wire

Week 2 of the NFL season is here, and that means it’s time for another round of Weekend Waiver Stashes. Maybe your draft left a hole in your lineup, or maybe you’ve already realized that one guy at the end of your bench is just wasting oxygen. Either way, I’ve got a few names you’ll want to scoop up before Sunday kicks off in full force.

Every week, players come out of nowhere with big workloads or surprise opportunities. Most managers wait until Monday to chase those breakouts when it’s already too late. The smart move? Beat them to the punch and stash these guys now.

Now it is time to get those must-stashes and patch up those line-up holes prior to Week 2.

Week 2 Weekend Waiver Wire

Quarterbacks

Aaron Rodgers, Pittsburgh Steelers

Look, Rodgers passed for 244 yards and 4 touchdowns in Week 1. Yes, Peg, that was 4 touchdowns in 1 game. The next 3 games are against the Seahawks, Patriots, and Vikings. He has both flashed and looked washed at times. But this offense is a little different; Rodgers is getting the ball out faster than he did last season with the Jets.

Daniel Jones, Indianapolis Colts

His name appeared in this article last week, then he blew up the Dolphins in Week 1. Jones passed for 272 yards and a touchdown and ran for another 2 touchdowns. It appears that having talented players around him agrees with him. Now I know the Dolphins’ defense is not good. But if you are looking for a guy who will give you some Konami Code at quarterback, look no further.

Other quarterbacks to consider:

  • Gino Smith, Las Vegas Raiders – 362 yards and a TD
  • Joe Flacco, Cleveland Browns – 290 yards and a TD

Quarterback Notes: Rodgers and Jones surprised us in Week 1 with huge games. Smith and Flacco showed us who they are: reasonably good fantasy quarterbacks. They may not blow you away, but they certainly won’t hurt you.

Running Backs

Trey Benson, Arizona Cardinals

Benson had 69 rushing yards on his 8 attempts. He also had 1 reception for 6 yards. 52 yards of Benson’s total came on 1 run. He looks ready this season to take a piece of this running game from James Conner. He is an excellent handcuff at the very least.

Other running backs to consider:

  • Dylan Sampson, Cleveland Browns (if available) – 8 receptions for 64 yards
  • Kareem Hunt, Kansas City Chiefs –  total touches, 26 total yards, on the field for 23 snaps

Running Back Notes: Sampson would be my addition if he is available which is unlikely. There wasn’t much on the wire for running backs this week. It was very much HO-HUM.

Wide Receivers

Cedric Tillman, Cleveland Browns

Tillman does a lot with what he gets in the Browns’ offense. In Week 1, Tillman saw 8 targets and he turned that into 5 receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown. Tillman is a clear red zone threat in the Browns’ offense. Flacco looks for him. He should be rostered everywhere.

Kayshon Boutte, New England Patriots

Boutte has good chemistry with Drake Maye. How good? Well, he had 8 targets in Week 1 and turned that into 6 receptions and 103 yards. I like him a lot. The Dolphins are up in Week 2, and they stink.

Other wide receivers to consider:

  • Calvin Austin, Pittsburgh Steelers – 6 targets, 4 receptions, 70 yards, touchdown
  • Wan’Dale Robinson, New York Giants – 8 Targets, 6 receptions, 55 yards
  • Josh Palmer, Buffalo Bills – 9 targets, 5 receptions, 61

Wide Receiver Notes: I really like the thought of having Tillman and/or Boutte on my teams. They will be great depth at wide receiver at the very least. Robinson will see a massive target volume again in the 2025 season; his problem is that he has never seen a tackle he wanted to break.

Tight Ends

Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints

In Week 1, Johnson saw 11 targets, which he turned into 8 receptions and 76 yards. He was second on the team in targets behind Chris Olave. His target share was 24%. He played 74 snaps, which was 99% of the offensive plays for the Saints. Juwan will be on the field and is someone Spencer Rattler will look to. To top it all off, he is the healthy tight end on the team right now.

Other tight ends to consider:

Harold Fannin, Cleveland Browns – 72% of the snaps, 9 targets, 7 receptions, 63 yards

Jonnu Smith, Pittsburgh Steelers – 6 targets, 5 receptions, 15 yards, TD

Tight End Notes: I am fairly big on all three tight ends mentioned. Johnson will see the most volume. I like how Jonnu is being used in the red zone by the Steelers. Fannin deserves attention because of the volume and the snap count but we need to see a bigger sample size.
